He retires an all-time great, one of Ireland's finest ever, and a player who defined the green shirt for a generation. But how did Jumpy Sexchicken rise to such heights, just how special was he, and what is there left to say after an 18-year career? We celebrate the man, the myth, the Jazzhall Sexlegend.

HE SAID HIS NAME AT THE END!!!! LEGEND
Tears in my eyes at that!!
Exactly what I was praying for
I actually got emotional
Thanks for the spoiler
@@kaisermaca sorry bro I couldn't help myself
As an Irishman, I thought I knew this story and Sexton quite well, but this was eye opening and actually a bit emotional. Kudos.
Agreed
That closing line, "The rest, was Johnathon Sexton" gave me goosebumps
jonathan
Same
I teared up. Out of nowhere, even saw it coming, but wow.
It got me! In tatters here at work, blaming hayfever ;)
is that the first time he said his name actually correct? in 15 years?
As kiwi i was thrilled when we beat Ireland in the QFs this year, but part of me can't help but feel sorry for Sexton. He is a man that truly deserves to get a World Cup in his cabinet too. What a legend of the game
I felt we were the best team in the world at that time, but New Zealand proved why they are at the top, they were the better team of the day and that’s all that matters. Broke my heart tho
As a Saffa I must say he was a once in a generation type of player. One of the three best flyhalves of the 21st century so far. The others being Johnny Wilkinson and Daniel Carter.
AB fan. One of the best to ever do it. A shame he couldnt go out on a high at the world cup. That qf was a bounce of the ball (could of gone either way)
One of the best to do it ? Are you fkn serious ?
@@jamesm9995he definitely is
@@jamesm9995I don't like the man, but if tou don't know that he was one of the best fly halves of the modern era, you don't know much about rugby.
he is 😂
“A good passer, he reads the game well… he’s not as confrontational as Contepomi”
Actually had to pause the video to laugh for two minutes, how spectacularly poorly that aged.
I nearly spat coffee all over my laptop 🤣
I thought we were fecked when Contepomi went off. I was wrong
I don't think I've ever screamed louder than when JS hit that dropkick in Paris.
Me neither... in a bar full of Frenchmen aswell! They were quiet all game, got a little excited and then scampered off home :)
I literally started running around the pub like a child at Christmas!
i lost my voice for 2 days
That is without doubt my favourite rugby moment and when I need to kick myself in the ass to get going, that is what I look at!
Me and my dad ran around are small kitchen. It's was just pure emotional with my dad il never forget it. Like sitting there nearly crying to running around jumping. 1 moment il never forget he gave me and my dad.
Hearing you articulate his name genuinely made me cry, what a tribute, more than worthy of Sexton!
You Leprechauns are so soft. That's why youll never win anything but the tier two comp the 6 nations.
@@JaemanEdwards I’m German, but the fact that on the video of Sexton retiring you feel the necessity to offend the Irish is absolutely hilarious and says a lot more about you than the Irish
@@JaNiMengel I love giving those dishonourable Irish morons stick. Never disrespect the haka. By the way have you seen the short film "Haka" on TH-cam ? It is a reimagining of the Christmas truce between the British and the Germans in WWI, but in this story there are maori soldiers fighting with the British who want to play rugby instead. Great short movie that's shows an honourable response to the haka from Germans. Fictitious story but very telling in comparison to that Irish farce. It's called having honour and respect. Watch it Kraut.
@@JaemanEdwards how did you,r worldcup bet,s go mate...down down down...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤ hilarious
@@JaNiMengelWell said ..ignore his comment, s he just anti irish...it,s not first time..he,s actually hillarious he told everybody about his worldcup bets how brilliant they were..all loser s like him..😂😂😂😂😂😂 pray for him.i have just lit a candle for his poor gambling 😂😂😂😂
Not me shedding a tear when you finally said Johnathan Sexton at the end
One of the most difficult things to come to terms with. It wasn’t the Heineken Cup Final loss or the World Cup Quarter Final loss repeating itself that hurt me the most but the retirement of this man. I had hoped the best results for the Irish squad this year just for this man’s final time as captain. Nothing hurts more than saying goodbye but we will have no end of nicknames to remember him by because of Squidge but I’ll just call him a legend .
Another Irish legend gone with a WC medal
How about "Riekos bitch" 😂😂😂
@@JaemanEdwardswho tf is Reiko ioane? All that spaz has is pace. His captain is the dope that got a red card in a final. Reiko ioane = Jesse kriels bitch
Spot on lad.
@@JaemanEdwards I bet his gambling is better than your,s..well we all know that would not be hard.😂😂😂😂😂
Holy shit.....
He actually said his name!!!!
End of an era. Loved this squidge. Thanks from a Munster fan
The drop goal in the Six Nations opener against France in Paris in 2018 to win it at the death immortalized Sexton for me
You have low standards
Lol yea.....his greatest moments are when nothings on the line
What a tribute! Thanks Squidge, great closure hearing you say his actual name at the end. We’ll miss you Johnny! No doubt he’s the Irish 🐐☘️
Rieko sends his wishes
@@JaemanEdwards your right, I’m sure Johnny is really jealous of Rieko’s silver medal 🥈
@@jackgartland9201 Everyone knows who the best team in the world is. And it's certainly not Ireland or the Bokke. And we'll accept that silver medal with pride.
brah you seem very anger writing on everyones comments, with a bad buzz brah, hey it seem like you could be under pressure with life man, feels like your suffering from innocent boy syndrome #IBS @@JaemanEdwards
@@JaemanEdwardslmao 😂 what good is it, being the "best" and not being able to win when it matters? 😂
I love that scene after his final game v NZ where his son says, “You’re still the best dad.”
The ending hit hard man, what a video
Superb tribute. I love the ending, actually calling him by his name. A wonderfully respectful acknowledgement in his rugby careers epilogue.
10:52 - "This is a man who can build a rivalry with a lamp post." Haha.
What a legend. Johnny Saxchamp Saxton🔥 I've seen great flyhalfs in my time. Definitely the best Northern hemisphere 10 I've ever seen 💚 Love from South Africa!
Wonderfully done, Squidge. You're too professional to admit that you'll miss him . . . but I bet you will!!
If Sexton ever takes up coaching, then we'd see one of the most strong headed rugby teams of all time. The idea of him rivalling O'Gara as a coach would also be incredible
Quick everyone, get in here and give Jango Sexsnail some love, before World Rugby decide to take this down
This is a perfect tribute. I really hope he sees it. Well done squidge.
Sláinte, Squidge. That was truly a wonderful tribute to the man who gave us so much to cheer for so long
Well done Squidge. Always felt your clever Sextlogic references were a veiled admirance. It's as if you were building it all up to that last lovely line.
Squidge. I don't know what to say. That was the most beautiful thing you ever did. I take back all the sledging over Ireland past present and future.
On top of this amazing tribute you name dropped my beloved County - co. Clare - not once but TWICE.
I'm sure ole JS thoroughly enjoyed this.
Absolutely phenomenal tribute, Squidge. I'm privileged to have watched him play. What a legend!
Cried all the way through. Thank you for a very deserving tribute ❤
Wow, what a tribute Squidge, much much respect to you for putting this wonderful piece together and a very fitting end using his name, I actually shed a tear, well done, will miss him and you coming up with all the variation's, both have been wonderful over the years, hope he gets to see it.
I'm Irish, I'm biased but he was one hell of a player. On the pitch and in training he was incredibly driven. Outside of the person we see, he is a quite, nice bloke. My son went to St. Mary's and before a big game it was not unusual for him to quietly drop in, have a quick word with the team and quietly slip away.
By far Ireland's greatest rugby player, his impact for country and province has brought both to the pinnacle. His pure determination, drive and competitiveness was infectious and raised the standards of everyone around him. True Irish legend
O'Driscoll and McBride
@@edgeware15 Sexton won more than both combined. Not even close
Not a chance. Sexton no doubt a great but BOD carried Ireland and Len on his talent alone BOD is someone you talk about in top 5 rugby players ever.
Gorgeous tribute Squidemonkey - touching how much you admired him too.
Not many sport clips that can move people to tears- this is one.
Great job Squidge, and well done for digging up the Dustin interview.
From a fan who was at both THE quarterfinal and that bitterly cold test against South Africa at Croker, you have done Johnno proud with this one.
What a player and competitor, he's left a big hole in the Ireland and Leinster teams but his influence has made them what they are today. So sad we won't be hearing the many many names Squidge gives this guy anymore. A perfect tribute to the man, Sexton will always be remembered as one of the greats.
A little tear after that . Thank you . Never knew about Mark breaking his leg . He just signed up as one of coaches for Connacht . Great coach by all accounts
World Rugby better not take this down 😒🙏🏽
He will be greatly missed. Jack Crowley has some big boots to fill
Sam Prendergast: Hold my beer
Was he the youngster that cost them ? Great news. 😂😂😂
@@JaemanEdwardsHe didn’t play a single minute in the QF because Farrell didn’t want to take Sexton off, either you just make things up in your head or just didn’t watch the game
Theres only 1 Johnny Sexton unfortunately.Jack is a great player and still young but i just don't see anyone coming close to what exton achieved and did for Leinster & Ieland, not for the next 20 years. Those type of players only come around every so often. Prendergast looks like the real deal though!
@@DrSoprano Oh my bad. I was thinking of that young Welsh player. Sorry young Irishman for false accusation. Well who was the first five that dropped nuts along with the whole Ireland U20 team against France at the World championships then ?
That was really amazing, so fantastic, am all emotional now. Amazing video!!! For me the Heinken Cup final against Northampton is where he became a world class player.
The greatest Leinster & Irish rugby player ever!! Sexton will be sorely missed.. Hopefully his experience will continue with Leinster and Ireland going forward.. As ever, beautiful analysis on the most wonderful sport.. Thank you team Squidge :) 🇮🇪☘️
Fantastic video. Congratulations. It's the end of an era with the retirement of Jonathan Sexwimple. Never be forgotten. We will miss you Jonathan Sexton! 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
That was lovely and generous.
Some say he did the basics better than anyone else but they lack the vision that he didn’t. Lovely tribute Squidge.
One of your best, Squidge. Thank you
Magic, great writing as always Squidge. So many great memories to cherish on a cold winter day, even if the one he wanted eluded us. Love the photo with OGara, wait til they're coaching opposite each other for more fireworks.
A lovely tribute, squidge, superbly edited and narrated. I hope JS watches it and appreciates every bit of footage and line of dialogue.
I still remember the first game he came on as sub for Ronan O'Gara. He missed his first kick as I recall. I remember a fear then that Ireland were super dependent on O'Gara for results. How wrong I was...
Great video & wonderful tribute. Bought a lump to my throat when you actually said his name!
Really superb. A brilliant portrait of a strange and wonderful player and man. A true great, we'll not see his like again, and the perfect tribute from Squidge at the end. Genuinely emotional.
That was brilliantly put together, must have taken ages. The gags were top notch
Amazing video. Fantastic tribute. I hope he gets to see it and is able to be proud of his huge achievements for both himself, Leinster and Irish rugby. A true legend of the game. He’ll be sorely missed.
Fantastic recap of an amazing career. Learned a lot about him from that. Love that last bit of respect at the end. Well done.
Beautiful video Squidge! Made my Irish soul very emotional watching
Just a heads up at 12:52 thats Philip Brophy in the 10 jersey for Marys. Heading for beers with him this evening 😁
Wow you got his name right at the end LMAO. I love the way you always played with his name. He is one of the greats. Have a good rest Sexton. 👏👏👏
Beautifully done Squidge! 😊
Hard to find a more appropriate acknowledgement Squidge! Fantastic! That was actually emotional!
Damn cheers dude it was only the other day i asked for a compilation of all of his names. I did not think you would have already done the work and had it ready to go
excellent video. thanks for everything Johnny
What an ending, years in the making! Goosebumps! Great job Squidgey!!
That was fantastic. Thank you.
Thanks Squidge! Lovely tribute
Really enjoyed that, thank you.
Brilliant as always, Thanks.
Squidge is a treasure. Hats off. Sligo diaspora here.
What a super tribute. Good on ya Squidge. 🇮🇪 ❤ 🏴
I think I've cried with laughter in every Squidge video on Ireland. I think Sexglory is my favorite. Gonna miss it.
He forgot the main one. Dick.
Brilliant video as always Squidge
Fantastic tribute - well done for finding the Dustin clip!!!
Love the explanation of what made Sexton's style unique (eg wraparounds) - really helpful for a non-rugby expert. Excited to see more like that in your new style of videos next year please!
Beautifully done!
Very impressive, I have never heard so many name substitutes for a single person, never mind all in a single video! Excellent story, Squidge! Jonny was a force of nature!
Brilliant analysis as always!
Rushing to watch this before the d*&kheads at WR take it down. They must be the only people who say 'grow the game' and then make sure no one can watch the game! In the US the NBA actively encourage post-game analysis by social media and English Football will even bring average guy superfans on shows to discuss the teams' performance. Elon Musk must be running WR.
Great player and a legend of the game "I know you hate me, but you have to speak to me" Sexton.
Honestly in tears, thank you for doing this Squidge
Genuinely a wonderful tribute to one of our greatest ever sportsmen, maybe our greatest in rugby. Watching men's Irish Rugby is gonna be weird without Johnny.
Never thought that hearing you say his name normally would hit almost like an emotional gut punch though. Phenomenal video Squidge :)
That was actually beautiful! Sucha a tribute.. A Squidge Rugby career high :)
I knew it was coming.... but it still got me! great vid squidge! loved it
Well done Robbie! Loved all the names (hope he does also) and love you closed out with the correct pronunciation LOL
This was awesome, thank you 😘
Fantastic video, Squidge!
What a magnificient 'hommage'! You have taken a lot of heat from Irish fans about your Irish coverage yet as an Irish fan I could tell you gave credit where credit is due...I will miss you repertoire of nicknames for our fly-half....and closing in that manner is not just the work of one video but a dedicated passionate man covering rugby par excellence for years. Bravo!
That was exceptional. Thanks Squidge 🥹
Great job, Squidge. Worthy of the man and that, as you made clear, was a huge challenge. Well done.
Love it Squidge, a fitting send off for an Irish Legend, up there with the best of them, inventing new ways to play the best sport ever.
Beautiful Squidge. Thank you
high praise indeed. great video
Hey brother, I don't know how to message directly but I really love your content, its excellent analysis and editing. Yours are by far my favourite videos. Keep it up legend!
Thank you Squidge for this tribute to Johnny, I genuinely had a tear in my eye not sure if it was from laughing or crying but it was defo there 👍
Great video, thank you!
My all time favourite player and the best we’ve ever had in Ireland imo .
The sad reality is , that with 20 mins to go , down a score to nz hoping to make our first ever semi final, the coaches refused to take off sexton and one or two other all time Irishmen despite them being clearly spent . If it was SA they would have been off by the 60th min if their performance was dipping , learning curve for Farrell .
Jimmy obrien was immense off the bench and I really think that 1/2 more off the bench in the backs would have added the spark needed to get that last score.
On the flip side if we took off sexton etc on their last Ireland appearance and we lost , Farrell would have been crushed by fans and media .
@@terminusest6068that being said , we are still World Cup under achievers but that makes people forget just how shit we were pre 2009. We were whipping boys in the 5 nations , World Cup success may still be lacking but one day it’ll happen .
It's true he shouldve gone. That decision will be an eternal pub conversation for decades to come
As a kiwi I noticed Sexton was gassed after 30 minutes in the WC quarter final. It must have been obvious to the coaching staff. Either Farrel didn't have the balls to pull him, or he wouldn't come off but I felt he was a liability to Ireland the last 25 minutes. Maybe they just didn't trust their bench to do the job.
i will believe it when i see it RWC wise hell i don't even think were ever getting past the QF it's so bad i think even Italy could beat us in QF that its evolved into curse sporting wise @@eoin8156
@@user-vd8uq8mx9rthe issue was Jack Crowley our sub 10 had barely played test rugby . He had played a bit at the World Cup and looked great though and he really could have made a difference. I agree with you with sexton being spent early on and I don’t know how we even ran nz so close in the end given that he looked like he had zero energy on every attack in the second half
Fantastic tribute. Worthy of the man.
😭😭😭quite emotional by the end I was. Great video. He reminds me of Andy Murray..the two angriest most competitive men in sport.
Love it. Great tribute!
Thank You for a wonderful analysis of Jonathan Sexton , he truly IS an amazing player ☘☘☘☘ and we will miss him
A lovely tribute and a brilliant greatest hits for all the Jammer-bolt Sexatron pseudonyms you created over the years.
Amazing, fair play to you squidge!!
Great Summary!
That was a phenomenal Episode!
We can’t not have this man as a coach at some point. A few years in his business gig, then when a suitable spot opens up, I’m sure his expertise will be very helpful.
The biggest loss is that there’s nobody to call ridiculous names now. Who’s going to take that mantle?
If only Sam Prendergast has a second syllable in his first name. His parents missed a trick.
Ol' Shuffles is finally retirin'. Will always be a legend!
