The point of a piano concerto is to pay attention to the piano - absolutely magnificent and also at times very tender . I could not ignore a very skilled and melodious accomplishment. This lifted my spirits and I cannot be alone so special thanks to all.
I especially love Yuja's transformable piano sound. She can bring out the most different moods and colors. There are also moments, where I have the impression that she didn't decide yet, how she prefers to play the part at this moment. Sometimes that sounds unsure, sometimes it sounds great, but in any case, it is very strong to can be honest to the piece, to the composer and to herself at this high grade.
Love this! So lovely!! Rachmaninoff and this Yuja Wang, an emotional virtuoso is fantastic- so dream in a beautiful piano and orchestra? Beyond others - !so emotional, expressive and deep! My grace from Yuja!
Brilliant, tender, dynamic first movement..the cadenza as musical and exciting as it gets. Pianist and orchestra as one. 2nd Movement, Ms Wang explores the counter harmonies in the left hand exquisitely. The audio mix here seems to have a slight overabundance of horn/winds to the left. Maybe just mic placement. Not a real issue. That said, it is a joy to hear the composer's FINAL scoring so clearly delineated throughout. Lovely. 3rd Movement. As you'd expect, technically brilliant by both Ms Wang and the orchestra. The full-bodied nature of the orchestra playing, coupled with the closer sound really gives you the immersive feeling of being there. For me, this concerto shows me something from Ms Wang I occasionally desired from her playing...patience..let the spaces be, allow the resolution of a section resolve in a broader manner. Shew is near perfect here. Her pedaling is really on point. Also At 25:30 (and in the earlier iteration of this section), her pointing of the counter melody shines. Again, Maestro Bychkov really brings out all the sometimes hidden delicacies of the orchestration. Bravo, all the way around.
In his later years Rachmaninoff said that if you put his piano concertos together in a row like parked cars, the first and last are Model-Ts, and the two in the middle are Rolls Royces. I think he exaggerated a bit. But if anyone could make a Model-T into a Rolls, it's Yuja Wang. And viewing and listening to her from the perspective of my age, I realize that she has a brief moment to burn hot and glorious like a meteor before she disappears from the stage. Until then, we who witness her brilliance are truly blessed to experience the beauty that flows from her fiery and delicate fingers.
This was beautifully crafted from the first note. Yuja is a superb pianist and she seems to have insights into Rachmaninoff's complex works that very few do. I feel Yunchan Lim is close to her in achieving this, even at such a young age.
Magnifique!!! Il n'y a pas de mots pour exprimer une telle beauté !!! Que Dieu bénisse cette incroyable créature qui nous fait rêver et croire que la perfection absolue est possible!!!
I can read through the first and second movement. The Cadenza is at least possible for me. Less so the last movement. Yuja's performance is beyond imagination. It is clear without being rushed. She has no need to "double to the speed of difficult passagework to get through it." A minimum of sustaining pedal. Musically, it is hard to separate her physical beauty from the way she plays this. I think I heard her singing it in some sections, but not sure. Her second movement starts out at half tempo, which adds so much to its beauty. I am not sure i can find a better performance anywhere or by anyone else. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)
Yuja is a gift from heaven and this concerto is stunningly beautiful. The cadenza at the end of the first movement is absolutely exotic in its conception, for several seconds it seems like it will never end and you are in it forever. Would love to know what the 18th century enlightenment philosophers would think if they could have heard it.
They would have had a heart attack considering the monumental sound from a modern instrument and the content of Rachmaninoffs conception expressed by Meastra Wang.
The beginning of Rachmaninoff's youth work is a demonstration of fulminant power, which is followed by the preparation of the melancholy main theme. Wang's further interpretation leaves nothing to be desired: technically stupendous, colourful, soulful in every detail. First brutal, then tender and then bombastic, the cadenza of the first movement, the solo at the beginning of the middle movement, as if in a jazz club. It is beautiful to see how the orchestra musicians are enraptured by the creative power of the Chinese soloist.
Miraculously none of your criticisms about the window curtain she's dressed in -- Neither any remark that she's wearing such an ugly big watch -- Nor that she shows up without any make-up -- Ain't she misbehaving or humiliating the audience like that ?? Let me tell you -- it's all fine with me.
@@mcintertz5593 Sorry, was just hinting at mr.Becker's former comments after YW, in which he judged over her assumed state of ambiguity. So never mind, please.

The "youthfulness" of this Piano Concerto is superbly demonstrated here by Wang, assisted brilliantly by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Well done everybody.
INCREDIBLE performance! Speed, perfection, confidence, powerful yet precise! The more I listen to her, the more I think she might be the best pianist alive today! No wonder she is critiqued for her style but her performance because she is too good!

On January 28 in New York City Yuja Wang will perform all 4 Rachmaninov concertos plus the Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini. The concert will start at 2:00 pm. The order will be concerto no. 1, concerto no. 2, concerto no. 4, the Rhapsody, and lastly concerto no. 3. Unbelievable! My God what stamina!
Yuja Wnag es una magistral interprete. Quedé impactado con su interpretación, su pasión en la realización y destreza. Sobresale que no tiene la partitura al alcance, es magistral lo que ella hace y sobre todo tratándose de Rachmaninov! ella es genial!
This performance is so awesome. There's no words to describe it as it is in another realm, unheard of before. I can surely kiss bye bye to Byron Janis and all the other players of this concerto to the wayside as I fawn over the new interpretive queen.
A very young age Yuga, the shine was emerging, I maintain that enjoying she plays Rachmaninov is an utmost emotion release, btw, she worn a watch when she’s playing, very true to herself😊
What a gorgeous performance of this gorgeous concerto! She clearly loves it, and now, thanks to Yuja, so do I. It took me forever to finish the time stamps above because I just kept playing every section over and over. If you can get to Philadelphia early next year, Yuja Wang will play all 4 Concertos and the Paganini Rhapsody with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra (Rachmaninov’s favorite). And later, they go to New York to perform the whole cycle again at Carnegie Hall. These concerts celebrate Rachmaninov’s 150th birthday, and I imagine they will be a high point in Yuja Wang’s already illustrious career. 😎🎹
Awesome performance! ... What a amazing talent Yuja is: .. Her magical fingers toughing the keyboard..... She conveys feeling & such wonderful emotions with her playing: She can embrace any piece with force & strength...... Love some of her sexy gowns... 🙏🙄❤️
Great performance. Wonderful interpretation. Sensible, breathable attire for a rigorous workout; I've always felt that male pianists should be able to play difficult pieces wearing a fashionable short-sleeve T-shirt.
I just listened to both this piece and Rachmaninov’s 3rd piano concerto (both for the first time) while on my favorite nature walk route. It’s really interesting to compare these two pieces and see how Rachmaninov’s composition style evolved over time. In this piece (which is beautiful btw), I personally see a Rachmaninov who is still trying to find his own voice and under the influence of his teacher and mentor, Tchaikovsky; the first few bars of the first movement have Tchaikovsky written all over them. On the 3rd concerto we see a Rachmaninov who has truly become a citizen of the 20th century, and a lot more comfortable with his own unique identity as a composer. His 2nd concerto (undoubtedly another masterpiece) remains an interesting transition piece.
Sounded like someone falling off a ladder at 16:10. Then trying to get up and falling again at 16:35. Hope they were not injured. Marvelous performance of Rachmaninov.
A stunning performance of this masterpiece finally getting its due. If Gunther Neuhold had been conducting you would hear the triangle in the last movement keeping the beat while the piano plays 'staccatissimo' which is breathtaking.
!? What? Where? Who?? You mean at 57 in the last mouvement? - I used to play a regularly under G. Neuhold's baton in Bremen when I played as a substitute with the Philharmomic Orchestra (and live now in his home city Graz). Is there a recording of this? You sure, that it would be that accurate? I right today told somebody of his most unusual baton...
...But I do hear the triangle in this recording. (What is rather absurd, but however...) You mean dryer, more rhythmically, clearly? Actually, I'm not a great triangle lover. It's rank 3 on my list of instruments that never should have been invented behind scottish bagpipe and didgeridoo... 😆
@@borisbrinkmann Beatrice Berthold is the pianist (she plays it as well as the composer). Watch the incredible smile on Neuholds face when the triangle makes its entrance at 6;10 ( there are two terrible commercials before the music begins) th-cam.com/video/3aS_hPkxoSk/w-d-xo.html
Man i see ur comments on every recording of this concerto, you might be a trianglist (don't know if i'm misspelling) because it's the only thing u comment about this.
@@etcetc5592 Would you pay to go to a concert of Liszts 1st Piano Concerto if the conductor ignored the triangle in the last movement? Pletnev, Lisitsa, Janis, Berthold, Yuja Wang and HJ Lim own this piece but only Berthold has a conductor that knows what hes doing. Sir Malcolm Sargeant went so far as to place the triangle close to the microphone during his 1948 recording with Benno Moisewitsch, which creates a magic effect; the simulation of sleigh bells.
Miss Wang is an exceptional pianist, and she performs this concerto admirably. However, my favorite version remains that of Byron Janis and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra under Kyril Kondrashin.

The point of a piano concerto is to pay attention to the piano - absolutely magnificent and also at times very tender . I could not ignore a very skilled and melodious accomplishment. This lifted my spirits and I cannot be alone so special thanks to all.
She is truely amazing. Truly truly amazing. Her technique is flawless. Bravo!
What a treat to have tis available on TH-cam! What a great performance.
The range of her repertoire is phenomenal.
Is there anything she doesn’t play?!
Absolutely amazing!!! I have no other words...love Yuja !!!
sublime

Love this! So lovely!! Rachmaninoff and this Yuja Wang, an emotional virtuoso is fantastic- so dream in a beautiful piano and orchestra? Beyond others - !so emotional, expressive and deep! My grace from Yuja!
Yuja and Yunchan Lim are two best young artist on the planet!
Amazing. Just found her, what a find.
Yuja Wang is the best concert pianist of our time. No dispute.
The most beautiful and scintillating performance by the SOLOIST, not the Conductor, I have heard in my long life.....
…there are no words NONE which can do justice here - absolutely sublime. Sjoe!!
…its as though Rachm wrote this with her in mind. He must be so SO proud. Wow⁉️
This was beautifully crafted from the first note. Yuja is a superb pianist and she seems to have insights into Rachmaninoff's complex works that very few do. I feel Yunchan Lim is close to her in achieving this, even at such a young age.
you grabbed the core, Catherine J
brilliant
👊🔥🥂
Adorable as a person, majestic as an artist, Ms Wang's work will stand the test of time (IMHO). Words fail to say more!
Prodigious techniques. No other words to describe them
Just perfection and I thing i'm falling in love for this pianist, great Yuja ❤
Magnifique!!! Il n'y a pas de mots pour exprimer une telle beauté !!! Que Dieu bénisse cette incroyable créature qui nous fait rêver et croire que la perfection absolue est possible!!!
In tears! What a beautiful cadenza (first movement)!
OMG, is this real??!! Another treat from Yuja. Today is a good day.
Yuja's outstanding performance is absolutely fabulous, but also Sergi Rachmaninoff wrote it at such an incredibly young age shows his genius.
It’s actually the version he composed at his young age, he changed it later.
@@Dylonely_9274 Sorry, this is the revised 1917 version
❤❤❤❤❤😢
She is so inspiring as an expert pianist! She played very expressively when it comes to performing a piano concerto for the concerts she comes.
We’re doing Rach 1 and 4 with Yuja in January. Cannot wait!!
Gratz!! :D
..truly stunning floating musical texture and gossamer fabric...
The first movement of this concerto and the second concerto are the only part of R's concerto output worth remembering
@@marksmith3947hello rach 3 literally trumps them all
@@TacticalStrike lol. When you say Trump I think you must hate the piece. You are welcome to your opinion.
Miraculously none of your criticisms about the window curtain she's dressed in --
Neither any remark that she's wearing such an ugly big watch -- Nor that she shows up without any make-up --
Ain't she misbehaving or humiliating the audience like that ?? Let me tell you -- it's all fine with me.
@@gabchaim8232what on earth are you on about
@@mcintertz5593 Sorry, was just hinting at mr.Becker's former comments after YW, in which he judged over her assumed state of ambiguity. So never mind, please.
Verdaderamente Yuja emociona con su inmensa perfección. Que grande interpretación, igual que con el segundo y el tercero. GRACIAS!!!
this is an incredibly challenging piece for the most accomplished pianist and she gobsmackingly nails it! Dripping with delicious!
The brilliance of Rachmaninov and Masterful playing of Yuma Wang. A gift to humanity!
Thank you so much Yuja, I really really enjoyed watching you playing with such passion and sensitivity too, you are really really awesome and amazing and beautiful too. Please stay safe and well too
YW is totally at home in this concerto...and very inspired...superb!!
Huge fan of this piece! I listen to it a lot on road trips.
The "youthfulness" of this Piano Concerto is superbly demonstrated here by Wang, assisted brilliantly by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Well done everybody.
What an artist! I can"t wait to experience in public.
Brilliant ! I can perceive a proximity with the music of George Gershwin.
INCREDIBLE performance! Speed, perfection, confidence, powerful yet precise! The more I listen to her, the more I think she might be the best pianist alive today! No wonder she is critiqued for her style but her performance because she is too good!
I agree. Between her and Evgeny Kissin for me.
Both are marvelous pianists.
I love this piece so much
oh god i feel so lucky to hear her play this piece aahhhh
She's incredible !!! Bravo !!!!!
One of my favorite concertos.
❤❤❤
Yuja no tiene secretos ni imposibles....Rafmaninof ha encpntrado en ella a su mejor intérprete.....La felicito....y le envío un beso....❤
amazing is the very LEAST she is... what other words are there for "perfection"? stunning....
Grandiosa!! Io AMO quest’artista. ❤️❤️❤️
I DO REALLY LOVE YOU YUJA! You unleashed a lot of feeling when watching and hearing you. I really, I DO REALLY WISH you come to México City. Please !!!!
Now starting at 4PM instead. I would not have thought this physically possible!
@@isovideo7497 me too
Also very sensitive and very good taste!
Hey I was there in one of the rehearsals on a school trip, truly magical now that I see how the actual concert was that I sadly didnt get to see :D

I’ll be there for all of it and cannot wait

What a amazing talent Yuja is: ..
Her magical fingers toughing the keyboard.....
She conveys feeling & such wonderful emotions with her playing: She can embrace any piece with force & strength......
Love some of her sexy gowns...
🙏🙄❤️
Stunning ❤
Great performance. Wonderful interpretation. Sensible, breathable attire for a rigorous workout; I've always felt that male pianists should be able to play difficult pieces wearing a fashionable short-sleeve T-shirt.
A number of male pianists nowadays perform without a jacket and sometimes even with a short sleeve shirt!
Great to hear. I noticed a few in long sleeve black shirts, opened neck. How sensible.
One of the world's great pianists. But sometimes I’m so distracted by her beauty that I miss the music.
Yuja Wang breathes Rachmaninov
There is nothing sexier than a woman doing what this amazing beautiful talent is doing in this moment. She is a goddess of talent and beauty
The only version I listened to is Richter's studio version from 1955.But this one is amazing.Yuja is an excellent pianist. Many thanks Yuja!
Recommend the Ashkenazy 1972 version with the LSO/Previn
Yuja Wang, "Herr Steinway, have you heard this one before?; you just make the sound, I will do the rest"
Everyone always says how difficult "Rach 3" is. Well, this seems pretty difficult to me! Of course, as always, Ms. Wang manages to make it look easy.
The balanced orchestration makes it more pleasurable playing this than only the 4th.
Electrifying, poetic, and incredible playing, as usual. Just wow.
Sounded like someone falling off a ladder at 16:10. Then trying to get up and falling again at 16:35. Hope they were not injured. Marvelous performance of Rachmaninov.
14:47 is just -- wowww
Yes
A stunning performance of this masterpiece finally getting its due. If Gunther Neuhold had been conducting you would hear the triangle in the last movement keeping the beat while the piano plays 'staccatissimo' which is breathtaking.
!?
What? Where? Who?? You mean at 57 in the last mouvement? -
I used to play a regularly under G.
4/2/23 adoro, tem técnica e vida!
Miss Wang is an exceptional pianist, and she performs this concerto admirably. However, my favorite version remains that of Byron Janis and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra under Kyril Kondrashin.
Ее отличает особая выразительность исполнения, помноженная на огромную работу.
