Ali Ataie is a perennial student and researcher who has been involved in interfaith activities for over two decades. He holds a Masters in biblical studies focusing on New Testament and biblical languages. He also holds a Ph.D. in cultural and historical studies in religion from the Graduate Theological Union. His doctoral work focused on Muslim hermeneutics of Biblical texts, especially the Gospel of John. He lives in San Ramon, CA, with his wife Roya Ataie and three daughters.

Also, I wanted to mention that in Genesis 21:14, in other translations, Abraham didn’t place Ishmael on Aagaar’s (Hagar) shoulder; Abraham placed the bread and skin of water on her shoulder. We have the Samaritan Torah as another ancient witness of this. The Samaritan and Judean Torahs have variants in some places, but they agree on this point.
