Now that we finally understand this, I find it interesting that people resent giving someone who has historically been discriminated against a chance, all things equal. That is - if you have say a Native American Queer woman applicant who meets all the qualifications out of say a pool of competing straight white affluent background men who also meet the qualifications - why not just give the sista the job, especially if you already have straight white men already represented?

      It doesn't matter that they're the same, employers just unconsciously favor whites and Asians.
      This is an example of systemic racism.
      There's an inherent bias towards whites and Asians in this country that results in workplaces not reflecting population demographics.
      By requiring employers to higher a certain amount of different ethnicities, we can eliminate this systemic racism by forcing companies to have workplace demographics that match the population and forcing them to stop favoring whites and Asians over blacks and Hispanics when they choose who to hire.

      That isn't how DEI works. Don't equate DEI with Affirmative Action. Affirmative action says that in pool of QUALIFIED candidates the company would hire the candidate that best meets the need to be diverse. If you have five men and three women qualified for the job and you want to increase the number of women in your workplace then you would choose the best candidate from the group of women. DEI is where you make sure you have policies and other processes in place that include all the different people in your company. That’s not how DEI initiatives work. Diversity, equity and inclusion are organizational goals/standards set by a company to help it achieve success and grow. For example equal opportunity employment opportunities that encourage hiring people of color, LGTBQ folks, or people with different abilities.
      DEI ensures that there will be a variety of perspectives within the organization. Within a room of decision-makers. It can also create safer and more productive workspaces where people who are different still feel welcome and included in the larger community.
      Again, DEI is a measure. It’s a metric. Obviously a candidate needs to fulfill the job description, requirements and all.
      We diversify our finances, we diversify our relationships-our ecosystem is diversified! What planet are you on that you think society (the workplace) should be exempt from advancing diversity?

  • @TheBaluchiterium
    @TheBaluchiterium 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    DEI is based on false assumptions: It makes the assumption that groups are identical in their average abilities. This assumption is wrong. Example: Asians outperform all other ethnic groups on average at the university level. How much of the difference is due to biology and how much is due to culture can be debated, but not the fact that these differences exist. Asians are consistently measured with average IQ scores higher than the rest, Blacks are consistently measured with average IQ scores significantly lower than the rest. Of course this must have repercussions in the real world.
    The DEI assumption that all groups are identical from the outset is a myth. As a natural scientist, I accept the reality of Nature as it is, whether I like it or not. That's just the way the world is. Everybody can still find their place in a free society. You find more Asians in intellectual occupations and more Blacks in athletics and sports. So be it. Where's the problem? There is no "equity" in Nature.
