I think he is my favourite so far! What an all around incredible athlete. I think I like him so much because until you started this channel, my favourite sport was basketball and he has all the best moves of the greatest b-ball players but with so much more! Also, I am biased because I am your mum, but I love seeing your life-long enthusiasm for sport finding such an incredible outlet. I've learned so much!
There's a non contact version of rugby league that we all played growing up , we called it 'touch footy' , exactly the same rules but all you had to do was tip the ball runner and the play would stop , flag football would be the american equivalent. This is where guys like benji and shaun johnson got their moves from, hours n hours of dodging , not grabs or tackles but single fingertip touches from people while holding a rugby ball.
He still plays today for the south Sydney Rabbitohs and let’s just say he is adding to his highlight reel already and it’s only going into the 4th week of NRL 2021 which is probs his last season before he retires. Let’s all hope he finishes his last season with a Ring! 💍🙏🙌🔥 and I just subbed too 😁 keep up the good work
2:55 that pass was in our superbowl basically. Biggest game of the year and he pulls that off thats why the crowd was going crazy. Also the only time tigers ever won the "suoerbowl" or grand finale as we call it.
This is rugby league far different from rugby union. Australian rugby league/NRL competition, the very best in the world and always has been by FAR. Btw the field goal that hit the cross bar was 50 metres not just 50 yards and the flick pass at the beginning of the video was vs the Cowboys was in the 05 grand final which the West Tiger's won. And yes Benji just announced his retirement last season and is a veteran of the game.
Jonah Lomu. 6ft 5 . 265 lbs and could run 100metres in 11 seconds. THat man was universally accepted as one of the best players ever. All players from all countries respected him.
@@AverageSportsFan he's actually insane taumalolo, man is like 195cm would weigh 100KG if not more I think thats like 6'7 and he runs like a 12 second 100m he's insanley quick
There are two New Zealand players that started out playing touch football they are benji marshal and Shaun Johnstone both are great players. But you need to watch billy ' the kid ' slater he's my favorite player.
@@ReyBeats haha not as well as I want. I’ve only lived here in the Netherlands since October of last year. My Dutch will get better with time though. At this point, I understand a lot more than I can speak
We dint call this sport rugby. Rugby generally refers to rugby union, a different sport. This is called league or rugby league. We dont call anything jabs, fakes or dupes. Changing direction suddenly is called a step. On the sideline swerving in toward a defender then away from him and accelerating past him on the outside is called standing a guy up. Faking to pass is called a dummy. Kicks fir yourself are called chip kicks. Passes with one hand including behind your back are called flick passes. Benji was born in new zealand and represented new zealand but played club football mostly in australia for several clubs. He retired this year at age 38. His protege is another kiwi, shaun johnson who came into the sport from touch football, another sport. He has a highlight video too, check it out
Its actually rugby league .but glad you like it and its that time if year ,state of origin and nsw just smashed queensland ,the third one to go and it 1 all .
This is my first post on a league video, I have a couple on your AFL vids Did you know the Northerners used to call Aussie Rules "Aerial ping pong" (the AFL didntt tell you that about that one).We had Our own sporting Mason-Dixon line, "Thugby" to the North, Aerial Ping Pong to the South (real hirthright stuff) That's why expansion either way was so difficult (my team merged with Brisbane (Bears that is, NOT Broncos) And I was an adult before I saw a live league game and it took the last expansion to Melbourne, The Storm or as I thought at the time of the expansion the "Perth-Adelaide RedRams" (Where it's been a great honour to host Cameron Smith) Well Northerners, is That enough non-gameplay stuff for Our new friend to go on with? PS I knew Benji's name way before I ever saw his brilliance!
Victoria ,Tasmania ,Western Australia ,South Australia ,Northern Teritory all play Aussie rules .QLD ,NSW play Rugby. Rugby is almost non existent in AFL states and is not even seen as a threat because AFL is so strong. AFL can get 80,000 to 90,000 at the MCG just for friday night football ,rugby League is lucky to get 20. I moved from NSW to WA five years ago, and If you talk rugby in perth ("2. million population") you will get totaly ignored ,and they will look at you as if they have never heard of it. I think Americans can relate to AFL more because its alot like their sports ,it has elements of basketball for a start .Rugby is too English ,its like the sport they used to play in English pommy boarding schools.
Not that you commented on this, but if you're wondering why these players miss more tackles compared to the NFL, you have to consider the fatigue of the defenders.
True! And you also have to take into account that if you can't properly tackle someone, you aren't going to... as opposed to in NFL, they have such a false sense of security from the pads and helmet that they just throw themselves into the opposition, often causing serious damage to the brain, neck or spine!
You missed the behind the back pass on the last try 😊 By the way Benji was never regarded as ‘fast’ he was always just a few steps ahead of the rest and that was enough of an advantage.
Jona lomu was A rugby player brother Marshal is a rugby league player they are slightly different games.. id say Marshall is a top 5-10 player Cameron smith.. Jonathan Thurston .. Andrew Johns are regarded as the top 3 best players of all time.. I slightly disagree and place Darren lockyer As the best of all time he was not only a dominant player in 1 of the hardest positions in the game at fullback won multiple grandfinals and state of origin series there.. then changed position to five eight and done the same he is probably the best five eight to have played Football and 1 of the best fullbacks of all time in that position also. He was the orchistrator of Queensland winning 8 years in a row in state of origin
good recommendation. I just did a Josua Tuisova reaction that will be coming out within the hour and I'll check those two out this coming week! Cheers!
