    There was an epic answer giben my the locals. When they where asked: "Why do you still believe that John Frum will come but since 19 years he hasnt come". He looked at him and replied " You are waiting 2000 years for your Jesus Christ and he hasnt come yet so why cant I wait 19 years for John Frum?"

    I have connection with the United States Navy. I am going to see if we can get a naval detachment to visit the island as a humanitarian gesture and a tribute to John Frum and the United States Navy by putting on a Naval band and March. Supplies will include food, Coke,hot dogs and Apple Pie

    (as I respond 7 months later... :p) I'm at the point where I've realized there are individuals out there who do not value evidence or logic and therefore will never admit the evidence that he was a fable, even if its margin of error would be practically 0%. I think we are on the way to at the very least show the character was very unlikely and the great thing is religious archaeologists are to thank!

    I read in NatGeo that when the leaders were asked that since it's been decades and John has not returned, why do they still believe? Isaac Wan replied that it's been over 2,000 years and "Christianers" are still waiting! I see the comparison quite clearly. Let them believe just as Christians are allowed to believe. Who is to say that one belief is stronger, better or more valid than the other. Our monotheistic religions think this is ludicrous. The people of Tanna just laugh at us!

    "If you're unable to have a civil discussion and elaborate on your original comment then you'll be ignored."
    But i did elaborate, those are the two points i was trying to make. I'm trying to say being an atheist is not something to be proud about and insulting other religions is especially not something to be proud about. It's the same as insulting someones culture. Just because you don't have one, doesn't mean it's right to insult those who do.

    Hi, it's me again. Not an expert. As a Christian, I sure won't argue that there haven't been really evil people carrying the Christian banner. All faiths have their people like that. We live in a fallen world. I do believe, despite the way the Christian religion has gone off in some strange directions at times, that the central truth is (only) what I hold dear: that Jesus lived, claimed to be God and Savior, was not crazy or evil, and became the redemption for the wickedness of us all. :)

    This is one of the saddest thing I've ever seen. Why don't the government of their country help these people and educate them? The truth should be explained to them and psychological assistance given so that they can understand they've been living a complete fantasy. Their delusional state shouldn't be encouraged by patronizing them...If anybody want to help these people, then a fund for education and mental rehabilitation is the best way...

      Read pieces on anthropological studies on shamanism and other tribal systems of belief. What they do here is something more highly symbolic to their way of life (all the way in Vanuatu, pretty far from any place on the globe, relatively speaking). John Frum is an ancient animist spirit which has blended over historical events (allied occupation of Vanuatu in World War 2) resulting in this John Frum Cult. They are 100% aware of the outside technological world, yet they CHOOSE to believe so by own volition. Appearances can be deceiving because they are simply not as stupid as they seem to us.

    I have shared them many times and will probably share them many more, however I won't post them simply because each person must find the Lord on their own terms. Accepting Christ is a personal experience and the Lord will give you all the proof you need after (or if) you have done the research and prayer needed to make the initial leap of faith. Faith is a gift from God that will be given to all who ask for it from Him. It is entirely your choice. Our Lord loves all people but forces none.

    Do you not agree that when a religious authority and/or culture causes consistent harm to individuals within their culture (killing children for adultery, or disobedience, treating women as chattel, executing gay people, preaching anti condom use in illiterate and impoverished regions of Africa, teaching garbage in science classrooms, etc) then you should be responding to these religions with vitriol. I do not respect anyone's beliefs on insufficient evidence.

    Once you give your self fully to faith you loose ability to critically judge and your mind start misinterpreting. Your son lived through difficult surgery? It's surgeons and their experience. You walked away unharmed after car crash? It's engineers skills who designed the car to be safe. It's very similar when a guy has a huge crush on a girl and misjudge her actions while friends who observe are laughing. You attribute proofs to your self because you want to believe not because god gave them.

    I, as a Christian, love that my faith is based on historical evidence for the life and resurrection of Jesus. If anyone is interested, start with your doubts, of course, and just begin the research on what historians have to say about the person of Jesus. Also, examine the evidence for the historical accuracy of the Bible and then, the probability of the prophecies about Jesus coming true in his life, death, and resurrection. Jesus is God. He died for our sins. He rose. Study history.

  • @beet74
    @beet74 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why would expect God to step in when men commit sin? He doesn't stop anyone from committing sin, yet you seem to think He should? Why? He is NOT our conscience, nor is He going to stop anyone from committing a sin. If He did that, we would not have the free will that He gave us. He did not create us so He could have a pet, He created man and gave Him free will. You do not have to believe in Him and many do not, many also claim to believe in Him, however their actions prove they don't.

    As I said originally - prompting your ignorant objection which you have consistently failed to substantially back up or explain - by ostensibly worshipping some of the outward signs of western culture they have succesfully inculcated themselves from its pernicous influence, such steps are only necessary because of the inevitable contact both economic and social with the western world.

    And folks. This is exactly how the Christian religion started. Just a bunch of made up stories and nonsensical beliefs that people made up among their history. It’s sad that humankind still clings to these beliefs.
    IMO, life has more meaning when you know there’s only one and it’s best to make it as good as possible.

  • @BeauJames59
    @BeauJames59 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yup, rare ability to see origin of a religion close to the ground up. Christians try to pride themselves by saying Christianity springing up close to Christs death is evidence for its truth, because people living would have KNOWN the truth about Jesus.....not so......

    Do you really believe that a religion could survive with all the claims that Christianity makes without the believers having more proof than just being told something by someone "in authority"? Yes, Christianity starts with a leap of faith, however it is sustained because you get the proofs that a thinking rational person needs to continue to believe. For me, 40 years ago I took a leap of faith, now I have all the proof I need. Others fell away because they didn't fully make that leap of faith

    What you say is true in many cases, however those of us able to discern the difference between random chance, good engineering, and God stepping in are quite able to tell the difference. If all the experts tell you that you should be dead by all logic, perhaps you should believe them. Fortunately, the proof I have received have nothing to do with accidents, surgery or any medical situation, or anything else that could be construed to be the result of anything man has done or did.
