Most people wouldn't notice, but as a musician this is spectacular! Slow peaces and especially expressive ones like this one are way harder than the upbeat fun ones, but damn does this girl just nail it. The most impressive part is - she just does it in one take, no cuts, tempo is like a recording.... it will be a shame when aliens come and take her back...
One of my favorite things about this channel is how she never says anything. She never acknowledges the viewer and thats kinda cool. Like she purely does this for herself and we happen to be allowed to listen.
nasah99 Yeah that’s cool. I’m more talking about in the videos themselves. We are a fly on the wall while she’s doing her thing. She doesn’t look at the camera and say “please make sure to like share and subscribe” and all that.
@@raphymartinez you are very right. I think it's because she's a truly professional musician. I recall in her YT bio she also wrote she won't take requests for songs. The channel showcases her artistry. Julia's work speaks for itself.
I love how Julia knows the right moments when the bass line should be highlighted and when it should be more laid back (not many bassists know this distinction). Wonderful video as always!
Not only that but also changes the tone by plucking with a combination of her thumb and index fingers. Finally I really admire how she "resolves" with a magic run to fall onto the ONE of the next bar. Truly exceptional.
This one you did, it's just next level. If that is even possible. So many parts and need for a tight pocket. 350K subs and not one word, tshirt or other advertisements. You are one in a million J !
I SWEAR that playing slower grooves takes SO much more discipline to nail. Anyone want a lesson in palm mutting, holding back, and cheeky triplets; I suggest this video.
@@nentihaiudittu Yep. I've played guitar/bass for a long time but have started learning drums lately, and a slow groove is stupidly hard to keep tight and swinging. The tendency to rush is so difficult to avoid when you are first learning an instrument.
This is true in many instruments. I'm learning batucada, the maestre told us playing slow is harder than fast, because the groove is more precise, and I knew that 20 years ago when I was a jazzfunk bass player too :)
I love how your face subtly lights up when you smash the tastier licks. That’s a feeling we all know well and seeing a fellow player experience it just makes us all feel such joy 💛
Being able to transition from old school baselines like Patrice Rushen's Forget Me Nots, to more modern baselines like this, is so astounding and a testament to the range you have. Definitely subscribed.
Staying in the pocket while playing this slowly is a challenge. Never rushing; never lagging. Perfect musicianship. Feeling the music. Singing with her fingers.
One of the reasons why I listen to your covers is because you introduce me to new, amazing artists. And this one right now is extraordinary, made even better by your bass playing. I am really a fan of you. Thank you for posting a new cover. :)
S SG if you ever get a chance, try out the SWB pro by Chowney. It’s about 31” so more a medium scale bass that could be set up as a piccolo as well. Amazing versatile instrument.

Dang... straight ahead soulful bass line. Your playing is just soo so deeply fine. Gotta add this vid is visually moving. Your clothes, the bass, the furniture, composition, music. VERY well done Julia. Thanks.
I was obsessed with Bittersweet earlier this year and it absolutely made my night seeing this cover! So well done. You're always very in tune to the artistic choices throughout each song you cover. Mad respect, always!

I'm too old and unfit to follow all these covid good intention keep fit youtube channels. Thanks Julia for sharing your love of bass and keeping it real. Please don't turn into yet another youtube narcissist. I'm convinced your subscribers not only appreciate your talent but also your modesty.
Julia, how are you liking the short scale Stingray compared to your other basses? I have the same one and I love it! After I started playing short scale basses a few years ago, it was hard to go back to standard scale because the short scale is so comfortable and easy by comparison (for me). Anyway, I love that you don't use your channel for talking or pushing a product. You seem really humble and real and I think that's why people love you so much more. I hope you're doing well with everything! Thank you for the killer grooves. You've gotten me into a lot of new music I didn't know about. I appreciate your selection of tunes. :)
