    Did anyone else notice the tiny bug crawling on their left thumb at 4:53? 😂

    I owned two PSTVs. I still have one. I never found a compelling use for it and it's been tucked away for several years. I didn't find remote play worked particularly well in my own setup, and with the lack of touchscreen support, there were so many games that wouldn't work, which you mentioned. As for playing PS1 games, I have a PS3 for that. Frankly, I have no idea who they made this for.

      I'm unsure they knew who they made it for, tbh.

    I bought a PS TV when I started buying Vitas. I only used it once and I was shocked to discover how few games it played. It is a novelty item and as you said, it seriously lacks features that would have saved it. But it’s good that Sony made it.

    I bought the white japanese Vita TV, and had the experience that none of my games I had for the PS Vita worked. They all are not on the whitelist. Additionally the navigating in the menu is kinda bad, with the japanese console has switched the funktions of the circle and the cross buttons.
    So, I set it up back then, was frustrated, and packed it away into a drawer.
    Whit I liked was the design of the box, it was so compact. I really think its sad that the usual streaming plattforms where not implemented back then. Also Sony's aversion against making it simple to plug in a USB thumb drive and watch a movie from that was (and for the big consoles still IS) annoying.
    I rediscovered my PS TV this year, after CFW got so easily distributed, I have to say, I still like the design of the box, the size, and now I can play some of my old Vita games on the TV, thanks to whitelisting. It is not a great console for non Sony Retro Emulation, there are better options, like Steamdeck, but PSP and PS1 emulation is a blast on the Vita TV. I am happy, I never ditched tha small box completely.

    I bought the PS TV on sale for around $40 before they were discontinued. I was disappointed I couldn't play games like Uncharted Golden Abyss on it (I still had the launch Vita I bought so not a total loss). I use it mostly to play ps1 games and psp games on my tv and I do like the console. Definitely worth it to mod it

      This is the same experience I had, lol. I mean, it wasn't Uncharted I was disappointed in not being able to play, but I mainly just use it as a PS1/PSP player on TV anymore.

    Thank you for your informed video about the PS TV. I personally had the chance to get one for 45€ two months ago and I don't regret it. I made it a device that can play many systems, Vita, psp and ps one of course natively but also NES, SNES, all Gameboys and also Systems like Game gear. The thing as you said that isn't really good are the vita controls not really adapting good in some cases and the overall missing streaming services. If there would have been things like spotify, TH-cam and Netflix widely available it would have been perfect.

    they should put psvita embedded in they sony tv instead like all those android tv imagine you have tv that could play partially psvita game even better have slot for vita catridge on it make it console tv hybrid like those old ps2 bravia tv

      It definitely would've been interesting, especially if they paired it with their PlayStation branded 3D TVs they released at the time. It's a confluence of tech that only me and like 5 other people would get hyped for, but it would've been awesome.

    This is pretty much Sony handing in a rushed homework.

    Forget all your other points except the one right in the middle at launch reception. The PSVita needed to be Roku with games, that's all. Just do that competently and it would have sold well when marked down to match the price of the highest priced Roku at the time.
    It's amazing how easily Sony messed up something so evident, that could be the PSTV's niche. It was such a no brainer and much smaller than the other IPTV stbs. No wonder Playstation Vue failed.

    The prices on these on the secondary market now are just ridiculous and have been for years

    • @GameXData

      Currently, there are plenty on eBay listed for $150 or lower (often in a bundle). I don't think that's too ridiculous for anyone into Vita games.

    Considering pulling the trigger on one or two priced at 60€ on good condition... Regarding the mods that make games playable/completable with a DualShock 4, is there a way to know which games are still unplayable?

    • @GameXData
      @GameXData  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. I haven't found a definitive list myself. All games should technically be playable with the patch, and most games should play without issue. It's just that some games required use of specific Vita features to play comfortably. For example, the few games relying on a camera will be a pain, and Tearaway likely won't be the best experience due to the heavy reliance on touch controls. Games with motion controls might also give you some troubles unless you enable a patch like DS4Motion.

    Do you think the relative failure of mobile failing to push out consoles rests on devs or hardware?

    • @GameXData
      @GameXData  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hardware was definitely the main factor in my eyes. Over the years, mobile gaming has (in some ways) pushed out quite a bit of the traditional gaming market in favor of the modern games as a service scene. But, in terms of the predictions of the tech community a decade ago about mobile gaming taking over living rooms, I don't think the hardware was performant enough at the time to support games on-par with home consoles. It's the reason why devices like the Ouya failed to pick up steam and why a lot of the earlier mobile ports of console games tended to be entirely different experiences. NVIDIA started to bridge the gap a bit with their Shield devices, but it feels like they were slightly too late to capitalize on the hype.
      Although, I do think we've reached a point where we might see similar predictions start to crop up again. The release of the Switch, Fortnite, and PUBG in 2017 and 2018 massively blurred the lines between mobile and home console gaming experiences. Since then, we've seen continuous launches of high-end mobile games that that don't feel too different from modern console games as well as an abundance of gaming handhelds running off mobile processors.
      Add in the improvements to mobile processing, the rise of cloud gaming, and the greater modern ecosystem for mobile gaming overall, and I think there's a version of the future where new hybrid devices start to overtake massive chunks of the home console market.

      @@GameXData thanks for the response! I completely agree with that sentiment. Their expectations definitely outpaced hardware. Today's chipsets are a completely different story.
