Please do a follow up interview after his Baja trip. Would like to hear what he liked and what he might want to change after spending some time with it. The rack and spares setup he made is 🔥
Hey there Nick! Rhon Utvrider here. Great vid! Thank you for creating and posting it! Rick mentioned that he likes the "speed" of the Lowrance GPS unit. I imagine he is referring to its 10Hz (ten times a second) locator refresh rate. Lowrance has historically been the prime choice for racers due to its 10Hz refresh rate, as most other GPS brands have had only a sluggish 1Hz (once per second) locator refresh rate. But Garmin stepped up their game bigtime with their Tread 8" and 10" versions which have a 10Hz locator refresh rate. I have a Lowrance HDS-7 Live and a Garmin Tread 8", and IMHO the Garmin kicks Lowrance's derriere in every way. No comparison IMO. The Garmin has a super high res color screen, 3D imagery, free Birdseye satellite imagery, wireless gpx file updating using Garmin Explore, and it comes with built-in inReach technology. IMO, the Garmin Tread 8" and 10" screen versions represent the best that money can buy at present time (I'm posting this message on June 5, 2023).
The Garmin does not have all of the needed Baja terrain maps yet to run the whole peninsula like Tecate to Cabo for example. Downloading anything remote is impossible. One of the reasons we (and Rick) run the Lawrence is that our whole Baja group runs them. When we do a mileage reset to keep the group together, having the same GPS as everyone is key. Rick will likely run a Garmin AND Lowrance until the Treads are more dialed, updates roll out, and the ability to easily load lowrance routes, maps, and pins into the Garmin happen. But agree, the treads are very legit.
I have to say I’m really glad u got one of the first speed cars, great coverage👍 also bought a set of your race mirrors the other day and I’m very impressed with those as well!
I think the bed and tailgate has to be my top favorite thing about the speed I love the truck look and having a usable bed on a sport sxs is pretty sick.
I love it too. When the Wildcat XX (a Robby Gordon design) came out, lots of people commented on its Big Bootie. Now other manufacturers are adding more storage space.
Interested in learning more about the seat risers. The seat rack is very nice. I would like to see a insert panel for the glove box door..I’d like to see a rear view mirror with some Sun visors. How about a better way or place to mount side mirrors, yet still be able to see them through the window nets? I wish BD would make a 20 inch curved light bar to better fit the bumper and to allow more light spread and still use spot lenses. How about a way to lock the storage box?
I’m impressed by all the custom touches he put on #14 already. It all looks super clean and efficient to use. The Lowrance mount is very nice too. As far as accessories go, I would like to see something to make good use of the void on the glove box door as well. I won’t be buying the second dash, but still want to use the space.
Such an awesome set up and dig how he utilized the backseat space. Looking forward to his 1000 review. I have a RZR and just waiting to pull the trigger on a Speed after some good reviews and future hot fixes.
My hope is that it makes it. Every bit of me truly wants to see this car succeed. My fear is it won't make it. Although 1000 miles of ripping straight are tough on any manufacturer. I think this will be the first true test of the production car.
I'm waiting on number 976 or El Hefe number 675. Glad you are putting out some Speed UTV info. After seeing you rock crawl, I'm a little worried that the low range is not low like the RZR gear box mods per Off Camber Industries, also that you can't climb with a little left foot breaking.
I just had a ECU calibration update completed while in Havasu so once I mount up some 35” stickies I can talk more on gearing. Not expecting to be as low as a degeared Rzr but the OffCamber guys will help articulate what they feel when I get it up there
Yes Rick prefers to be a little lower than me, I’m running a little higher than most everyone (right now)… will see it it stays that way, I like to experiment
@@ChupacabraOffroad Thanks Nick, that's great there is no trimming required. You're El Jefe is sweet (and so is Rick's)! I can't wait for our RG Edition El Jefe to roll off the line and make it stateside. We are master # 534 so hopefully not too much longer. Thanks for putting out some content on these epic machines!
One step closer to getting "unpaid for, real feedback" after his first trip to MX. That is all we want "Real feedback", yet to happen for anyone that has one?
What custom accessories will you be building, or like to see offered for the Speed?
Viper or similar have an affordable winch.
After market front and rear bumpers.
Anti theft system for spare and jack. Also, 2nd battery installation kit, mounting try, brackets. #1773 RG El Diablo

Love the $120 xbrite mirrors. They're truly a marvel for the money. Seen so many cars with $10,000 of Baja designs lights running those mirrors 😂

Car just never gets upset or does anything weird. Just eats and goes straight. I cant wait to check one of these out.

Love the Raceco shirt Rick. When your Speed breaks have Jaime build you a sweet Talon 😂.

Has the ride height been adjusted on this car?
Yes Rick prefers to be a little lower than me, I’m running a little higher than most everyone (right now)… will see it it stays that way, I like to experiment
