Hockey Canada and on a more micro level, minor hockey in Canada is super political. Kids aren't making AAA teams at all levels because lesser players are more connected. This has been going on forever. Now the system is run by rich dads who campaign for their kids.
idk if its true, but this is a same thing, what fans spitin on the internet in Czechia and Slovakia for decades. Hockey is a sport for rich people, its not easy to drive your son on stadium on 10 AM on Tuesday if you have causal job. But i had no idea its a problem in Canada too. here in czechiaa ,,Canada hockey program is embodiment of how to do hockey for kids at level we know we never reach (number of stadiums, weather etc).
This is the honest truth. I’ve seen it with two of my grandchildren. It’s simply terrible! This makes Canadian minor leagues political - and it NEVER stops all the way thru these major tournaments. CHANGE THE SYSTEM!!!
LOL As an American I see Canada getting EXACTLY what it deserved! You guys always pick a bunch “stars” and expect them to win against disciplined TEAM play. You are here in the comments complaining about which super star draft pick got left off, while teams that play TOGETHER for years and don’t try to win it by themselves get run you guys out of the building. When was the last time a bunch of super stars won the Stanley Cup over a disciplined team that played together?
By default the a bunch of superstars scenario can’t happen because of the cap. Even before the cap was a thing, the owners were cheap ass bastards that stopped spending once they thought they had enough.
@@gregorybiestek3431These are all teams made up by the best of the best of each country, these are not club teams. Tell me you know nothing about this tournament, without saying you know nothing about this tournament. These teams don't play together for years, you retard.
Sums up the entire country at the moment. I honestly think team Canada lost, because most Canadians feel rather down at the moment(by most I mean especially especially young Canadians) I swear you see those same passive defeated faces all across Ontario. You expect kids especially athletic kids to have a kind of cocky arrogance about them. But I've notice since covid, young men just have no sense of confidence. Between covid, schools being taken over by drama teachers etc etc, it only makes sense. It's just depressing that it seems like its spilling over into sports.
Dregs is right: Don't blame the kids invited to camp and given roster spots. This is an organizational and coaching problem. Hockey Canada as an organization is absolutely dog water. And Dave Cameron?? He hasn't been successful in a decade at least. His time in Calgary was HORRIBLE.
@@DarkN1nja77 Nowadays with the tremendous pressure coming from medias, teams who drafted them, their agents and even family, young players will be selfish because that's what everybody who has access to them on a personal level will want them to be. How many have their dads telling them to do X thing instead of Y, how many agents will tell them the next game will mean a lot for their draft selection, etc... That's why they need a head coach with solid leadership, to put them back in context and exploit the best that they can produce and make it work in cohesion with all the other players on the team. Clearly Cameron failed to do that. For example he didn't have them train much, he said they were tired... Bro they'll be tired when the tournament is over, they're young and they can recover quickly. Cameron burned himself out of any NHL job with this horrible coaching.
@@TheFlamingPike i understand that im saying selfish with the penalties most of them could of easily being avoided like the penalty we lost too there was no reason to attempt that hit or the fact we got a penalty for moving the goalies stick. another thing i noticed is trying to pass it through like three guys on the powerplay and turning it over those are what i meant by selfish and stupid. cant coach that lack of hockey iq that they should of have i do agree the coach is to blame and shouldnt be back. like the game against usa even the panel said there was a lot of idiotic penalties so that has to be on the players as well
Alan Letang coached Canada last year. They scored MORE than 5 goals per game in the round robin, 2 against Czechia, and had THE EXACT SAME FINISH. I'd actually argue is was worse last year, seeing as they started great, had one shit game and were done. Dave Cameron's team legit outplayed pretty much everyone, they just didn't have the same danger as others.
Lose game 1, cancel practice… lose game 2, cancel practice… lose game 3, cancel morning skate. These losses are on the weakest coaching staff I’ve ever witnessed…
Ya right, you guys just need more "super star" kids each of whom wants to win by themselves and are too selfish to play together in any sort of disciplined way. Then you can just step out on to the ice and the actual TEAMS with discipline & heart will roll over and give up - correct?
Hockey Canada 🇨🇦 is nothing but a marketing/branding scheme...Hockey Canada is not a true development program. The WORLD 🌎 have not just caught up to Canada it has blown right past 🇨🇦
Watching both the Finnish game and the Latvian game, it was the right call. Kid lacks killer instinct. And if I'm his NHL scout, his look to pass the puck every god damn time is frustrating as hell. Like.. shoot. You have the shot? Shoot. Between the legs bullshit, no look, pass it seventeen times and deke moves that mid 20s pros don't do because they're actually not effective needs to get out of the game. Canada wasn't beaten by better players. They were beaten by better teams.
The only times canada looked dangerous in the offensive zone was when he was with Cowan. That was the case for the usa game as well. When they finally made the change they actually got some good chances.
@@brooksfriess3139So the line he was on all tournament wasn't dangerous when they scored the game tying goal without him on it? Remind me again how many McKenna scored with the Cowan line?
There are a bunch of things happening, some of which other commenters have talked about: 1) Canadian Junior hockey has been allowing lots of players from Sweden, Russia and Finland to come over and play here. One can make the argument that that’s the free market and if they can get top teenage talent from other countries to help sell tickets etc, then go for it. BUT one then has to ask: “what is the main point of junior hockey?” It is to make maximum profits for the team owners or to focus on developing homegrown talent rather than other countries’ talent? 2) You will always have some sub-par kids on a rep team given the need for assistant coaches. A lot of leagues/associations have rules that the head coach cannot have a kid on the team, but if you try that with assistant coaches, will be tough to get enough coaches to run teams. Bigger issue is the ongoing “professionalization” of youth sports (which isn’t just a hockey problem). A year of AAA rep hockey can now easily run you $10-15k per year (including tournaments, dry land training, specialty coaching etc) and then there’s hockey camp and other “off-season” activities on top of that. It’s gone nuts. And yes, that highly skews towards more affluent families, but plenty of blue collar families do it and make a lot of sacrifices to get there. But it does create a situation where a naturally skilled kid can’t make continue to the next level due to cost or scheduling problems (usually both). Money ruins everything. As usual.
In a short tournament, three factors determine your fate: Goaltending, Special Teams and Contingency. While the goaltending is much better than previous year, the special teams failure and lack of contingency killed Team Canada. Contingency is so important when a team trying to find the chemistry or when a key player went down. When Schaefer was hurt, Team Canada lost all its ability to generate offence from defense and their fate was sealed.
Arrogant international teams my ass. Canadian hockey has slumped, and broadcasters and talking heads shouldn't be grandstanding and belittling the strides other countries have made to get even or surpass our nations elite skillset. I am a die hard team Canada fan, but feel its time for the media to stop selling short the strides made by other nations. USA isn't playing with arrogance, they are playing with confidence, there is a difference.
Don cherry said it best, hockey Canada treats the juniors like an after thought. Having a full time staff for hockey development for up to the juniors is needed.
Don't underestimate the Czech team. The main difference was that there was only one team on the ice and the other was just a bunch of talents that didn't even remotely resemble the team. Another difference is in the work with youth in the Czech Republic. In recent years, extra league teams (the top adult league) have been fielding young players and recruiting them to the team at the age of 17 or 18. Is the Czech extra league capable of competing with the NHL? Probably not, but it will certainly prepare these young players for adult hockey better than the junior league anywhere else. Then we see mature game performances even in such young players, and mental resilience is also significantly better. All of this together has been raising Czech hockey in recent years.
To me this means a reorganizing of the way we pick coaches and players in the future to play for are country in international competition need players and coaches that leave there egos at the door and play for the red and white and put team 1st to me the last 2 years that wasn't the case time will tell if the changes come to future team canada teams to build teams that play for the country not themselves
@@AR-wm9lv I like czechs but this is how they play for decades. Diving and dirty hockey. Holding stick when ref dont see, then "accidently" hit you with stick in face during faceoff, then you respond later and they dive. And Im European😂
I like Darren Dreger. He has his criticisms, but always seems to be sharing them with kindness, in my opinion. Never rude or hurtful. I guess I just think in a similar way. Mistakes were made by Team Canada from top to bottom, and yet things could be rectified by as early as next year. You never know. Canada will take steps to improve, I am sure.
First time I've watched your channel. I subscribed after listening to your discussion. Great that you have guys like Dregs on who are connected and understand the game and the behind the scenes politics.
I didn’t watch the tourney at all this year. Two years in a row they picked Clydesdales when thoroughbreds were available. Great kids, but wrong for the tourney. It’s like they were building a team designed to survive 82 games and even tougher series of playoffs in the NHL. They left 8 first round picks on the sidelines in favour of ‘chemistry’ that the team didn’t ever develop. Don’t blame the players- blame the coaches and hockey Canada. Why not pick 4 scoring lines and let the other teams worry about ‘chemistry’ ? Maybe more junior leagues should tell Hockey Canada to pound sand.
It’s almost as if DEI took over Team Canada. When you leave out, 4 guys who have a total of over 200 points so far this season in Junior, that’s a Management problem. Now Easton Cowan is catching sh*t because of the way he was asked to play. Not the Cowan who’s well over a point/game in the O. It’s Management, Then Coaching that actually killed Canada.
Well, when you're not even on the radar because (like Misa) you really aren't much better than average until October of this year, chances are pretty high that a few good weeks isn't going to be good enough to pick you. Especially when you're only in a playoff spot because three other teams are ass. They're an average team and until October, he was just an average player. Oh, and super fun fact. During the same run Canada was playing the world juniors, guy played 4 games with 3 assists. Not exactly a world blazer. But sure. Make the excuse NOT to sound racist. I guess some of these guys just don't play the "white way".
Brainwashed much? The management team is entirely old white dudes.. if anything it's the complete opposite of DEI.. they're just morons bad at their jobs. Agree with the rest of your points.
After the Germany game it was obvious that our team was not that good. The USA game proved we were the weaker team, penalties were a result of frustration.
Even in Canadian Rep hockey, you can expect a couple of Referee calls per game that don't go your way. Now multiply that by a factor of 'X' at the International level.
When Hockey Canada was forced to have the Gretzky Summit years ago, it was said, "There are people in hockey and hockey people in hockey; today, there too many people in hockey."
When asked about discipline after the USA game, Cameron said, "I can't. They have to decide. It's a short tournament." Cameron needed to sit guys who took bad penalties. You take a bad penalty, you sit the rest of the game. Bad penalties would have stopped. They dress 13 forwards and 7 D as it is and the guys are all used to playing big minutes with their club teams. They could have gone down to 3 lines and 4 D and still been fine. Cameron's decision to challenge the no goal in the 3rd period of that game was awful. He had no chance of winning the challenge. He gave the Czechs a penalty, but what's worse is that he gave them a 2 minute break from what was, at that point, a relentless Canadian onslaught.
Isn't it amazing tho..if only Canadians would show their passion for their freedoms like they do for hockey this country might not be the commie shit hole it is now..
Coaching and roster construction were big reasons Canada's World Junior team lost its 2025 quarterfinal, and I hope that as a consequence: - the entire coaching staff and scouting committee are replaced - there is: -- a legitimate development camp held during the summer so that hopefuls for the relevant 20216 have a much better idea of what is expected of them going into the actual tournament -- more balanced on the roster so that players from across the Canadian Hockey League, not just the OHL or QMJHL, are selected Here's hoping the under-18 women's team will do Canada proud via the winning of a gold, with that relevant IIHF tournament to start in under 24 hours in Southern Finland.
How many more years are you Canadians going sit there a complain about this or that "super star" kid when the only TEAMS that play disciplined, organized hockey win. Maybe instead of wanting your "great" kids to play, you should find a group that is willing to play TOGETHER with discipline.
Glad Pinder brought up the stupid goal review resulting in a delay of game penalty when Canada was FINALLY buzzing! Even having the goalie in net when you're down one with 39 seconds left, I can maybe tolerate but then leaving him in for a dzone draw with 9 seconds left??? The mindboggling answers to the media?? Just shows how disconnected Cameron was.
Yager was the best player on the ice and he was not played nearly enough. He could have played more with McKenna (they had chemistry on the PP), then put them with a high scoring (shooting) right-wing?
@@LivingNed It's a political thing. They snob the west and the QJMHL. The same happens during the NHL draft. It's funny because it's the same with the Canadian government. The western provinces and Quebec are treated like shit by Ottawa. Also they make shitty executive decisions that doom us all lol.
You joke, but the attitude of these kids is little different from what I see with kids all over southern ontairo. This generation is different. I've seen this continiously since covid. They all have this "How he hell did I end up here in all of this" expression. It's a daming
Only heard one word elsewhere how much losing Schaefer hurt this team. Not just the offensive and defensive loss, but the QB on the PP, PK too. Only other Canadian with his ability and style is Zayne Parekh. And they replace him with Sawyer Mynio?!
@@spartuz71 oh man, yeah. Yakemchuk. Playing for a crap team like Calgary, with average stats and a decent build. Maybe if actually played defense instead of trying to get involved with offense he wouldn't be constantly faced with odd rushes against 🤷 There's a reason he's 6'1, 200 lbs and hasn't sniffed a Sens team that's already below average. He's overrated defensively (which is what he plays 🤷) and has taken a step back this year offensively. Misa was average before October on a mediocre team (and just mid last year). Sennecke is average on a mediocre team. Great picks though. Sounds like all these mid to no upside drafts the NHL prefers are going to lead a bunch of crap years while the Americans continue to outpace Canadian junior development this entire decade. Anyone wonder why no Canadian goalies make the top 10 (if that) and barely crack the top 20 in the NHL now?
@@nolankuffner3573 Why do you have such ahate-on for Calgary? I have the CHL package and alwayswatch them play because they are exciting to watch. BTW, I live in MH and McKenna is also poorly used here, even though he leads the league in scoring.
For once, the theorical Canada #2 team with those top drafted players that were left out and a different coach/GM would have outperformed the actual team easily.
They should have a couple of misfit teams, 1 europe and 1 north america. That would be awesome. They would likely dominate on grit. What were the bodychecks for team canada? Non-freaking existant.
After the Latvia game, Cameron said we need to just forget it and move on (burn the tape, basically). He should have shown the kids the last minute of regulation in that game and asked them where that was the other 59 minutes. At this level, if you don't play with intensity and passion (and Canada didn't except for the final minute of regulation against Latvia and the 3rd period against Czechia), you lose. They had puck possession. They had zone time. They had shots on goal. But it was all from the outside and not really dangerous.
You guys are part of the reason "they were too tired to practice" cause they were doing so much media. Between tsn, sportnet, bardown...etc let the kids play, tone down the content
There are no more Gordie Howes. Guys like Tavares who grew up working class and played league hockey. I like Marner, McDavid and Matthews and all of them for their skill and talent - but they were all private school/hockey academy kids. As such Canada's team is a rich kids club with the parents driving big pieces of crap like Yukons, Cayennes and such (I've seen the parking lots - show vehicles everywhere). And when you have kids like this they are entitled - their behaviour is hard to manage for a coach because they have had an easy life - and don't tell me about two-a-days and stuff like that. They have never had to really try to get by at anything in life.
Bang on buddy. Met Marner last year and I couldn’t stop laughing at how much of a little douche he was. Could just smell the stench of daddy’s Range Rover on him.
Hockey Canada always had a messiah complex. Since 2007ish they’ve been a terrible organization. Only 5 golds in the last 16 years isn’t good enough. Other countries have caught up there best junior players are playing against men in there home country pro leagues. Czech’s were playing more like Canada is supposed to blocking shots etc. we no longer can intimidate teams with aggressive play when the euro kids are playing against full grown men in their home countries. And to think Canada hasn’t even made the semis the last 2 years without a hockey powerhouse of Russia not there.
This years world junior shows the overall problem with minor hockey from 8 year olds up to Midget AAA. The best players are often overlooked because of politics. Too many people selecting teams have a bias towards their kid, kids friends or friends of the family. This has come to fruition with the WJ team this year and hopefully is a wake up call.
This is very simple guys. You don’t need ten minutes to explain. 1) bad, bad coaching. Players play as coaches tell them. At one point - penalties: Canada 27 - opponents 5. 2) Canada did not puck their best. This is the problem with these f---ing committees who, if you do not kiss their a$$es, a kneel before them - you get ignored. At least 3-4 players ignoredwho will be high draft picks! CHANGE THE SYSTEM. Back to coaching - it’s simple. Get the best you can. One of the Hunter’s from London. Consistently great teams year after year. Great drafting and trades, better coaching. USE THEM!!!
The root issue with hockey in canada is the egregiously high costs to just put your kid in the sport to begin with. Never mind the equipment. Its a sport for rich kids and rich kids only, and thats the biggest problem. The best goalie in the world could be stuck playing soccer because his mom cant afford to put him in hockey to begin with. Thats where the issue needs to start being repaird... and then youve got a long way up fixing the rest from there.
Because of the London 2018 thing (which we still dont know the full details, just media-driven hysteria), Hockey Canada was forced to clean house and there's a whole new president/CEO and board of directors that are focused on inclusion and eliminating toxic masculinity. They have little to no experience in hockey, even women's hockey and are there because Hockey Canada had to be taken down a peg. Be prepared for more losses
Dave Cameron said he had no regrets so that’s the thinking from the coaching staff. Old school thinking, no changes when things aren’t working, no accountability..
Keep it simple, play the best players available! The best players will always find a way to win! Not picking Misa, Parekh, Sennecke and a few more will get them fired.
Literally no other country in the world cares about this tournament, yet we get all bent out of shape about it. TSN hypes this up for 6 months, I used to look forward to it, not anymore.
Considering when I lived in the Czech Republic and Prague literally shut down for weeks to watch this (Johnson & Johnson’s office would close) - then travelling to Helsinki and Sweden learning that children are allowed to go home between the hours of game time to watch/take sick days if watching late due to time change, I respectfully disagree with your take that no other country in the world cares. I would argue they care so much, that this is why as a country, our hockey style has fallen well below average compared to the global standard and we have been absolute left in the dust lightly. Canada has become all about $ and who your parents are. Foreign hockey is taught on the principle of who we all are as a team.
Where do I start: 1) Carson Bjarnason didn't get single game in goal 2) Jett Luchanko who was probably fastest skater on team Canada was amazingly under-utilized with ice time.
Remember when the NHL was 99.9% Canadian? Since then, the league has been heading towards a close to even split between Canada, the US, Scandinavia and "other" European. Get used to Canada being a top 5 nation in hockey.
The entire management group should be fired and never allowed to select a team again.. Anholt and Seabrook have no idea how to evaluate talent or build a roster. Many people, myself included, predicted this outcome before the tournament even started.. when you don't bring the best players available because you think you know better than the scouts... bad things will happen.
Poor coaching on top of a rich kid sport eliminating a lot of talent due to politics and who people’s parents are. The other day the announcer made mention of how many Ex NHLers children are coming up through the ranks every year. No duh - they are the only ones that can afford everything entailed with becoming the best. I’ve yet to meet a single dad who can take off a Wednesday to drive their kid 5 hours away for a tournament and book in for 3 nights at the hotel associated with the team booking. It doesn’t exist. I see 40-50+ year old parents driving Escalade’s into the week long training camp meeting with their nutritionists and social media management teams. The wealthy do everything they can to continue that line, for Canada - no better place than to invest your bank books into good old Hockey. High investment, high return…….. Herb Brooks: All-star teams fail because they rely solely on the individual's talent.
The '98 Juniors finished 8th! 9Gf/7Ga. 2 wins 2 losses. Lost 6-3 to. Kazakhstan in the 7th place game. Placed 8th. Not a great record either. Tom Renney-Coach/Stan Butler & Claude Julien Assistants New coach/new voice/new selection committee please!
Re: Nations thing coming up in February. Worth remembering that the U.S. over-thought their roster in 2016: left off Kessel and couple of other talented players in place of big plugs they thought could deal with Canada's physical game. Big mistake. You don't need role players, you need the best players you have.
I’m certainly not in the know on this, but does Canada’s decline in world hockey power start at the Q, the WHL, OHL, etc? Are European teenagers doing one of two things? 1. Coming to Canada or the USA and playing prep school, club, university or Jr. hockey. At least some of those that can afford it anyway. 2. Are the number of imports declining? European teenage prospects can start playing pro hockey, in Europe, at age 17. They can start making really good money at that point, so in reality, they don’t need Canada’s or the USA’s billets, living expenses, etc. when they know that their games and training are being viewed anyway! Let’s face it. NHL teams have as many or more scouts in Europe as they have in North America. So, they’re watching these Jr. Hockey age players, playing pro hockey, against grown men, and they’re learning faster en masse! Sounds like Hockey Canada and the NHL are not on the same page or heading in the same direction. Canada needs to rethink how they’re developing players now. We are falling behind against teams that 5 years ago wouldn’t have beaten a Canadian B team. Time to put some new blood and new ideas into the Canada Hockey offices!
Let’s start by getting rid of the DEI hires in Hockey Canada. Picking women for key positions is not making us better. I love women’s hockey. I am proud of our women. But they are not in a place to take jobs from men in Hockey Canada yet. The best people should be in leadership positions. Watching Katherine Henderson talk, or rather READ, her thoughts shows she is not a leader. She’s a woman given a HUGE job. Terrible decision. Pick hockey people, not ones to try to show you aren’t sexist. Her background is RUGBY AND CURLING. So ridiculous.
I’ve stopped watching this tournament years ago. Hockey has become an elitist sport and limited to the few. Hockey Canada is dead and if we don’t make it affordable for everyone, hockey is dead in Canada. The stench from hockey Canada’s and TSN’s desperation to show the world that Canadians are good at something is sickening. No one outside of Canada is watching this tournament and that is why it is only being held in Canada with the odd years being held somewhere else. Who watches a three horse race? Canada!!!
These guys must have missed USA v. Swiss where Team USA hardly celebrated at all. Besides, Canadians should be the least to complain about celebrations after watching their boys go after a score.
Road Apples! How can Hockey Canada's 2 scouts ignore the draft picks of 32 NHL teams that employ on the averge 5 pro scouts per team? Are we in the IIHF junior Championship tournament to win, or to just ice a team? Real mindset changes are needed before the 2026 tournament!
Hockey culture is amazing. No matter the level, it is never the players fault. It's always management and \ or coaches. Hockey players are like weathermen now.
Well it can't be the players fault if they are not on the team. Sennecke was a 3rd overall pick last year and was not on the team. Misa gonna be a top 5 pick this year and was not on the team. At one point what you gonna do blame Pinelli who was a 4th round pick in 2023??? You gonna blame Mynio who was a 3rd round pick?? Cataford who was a 3rd round pick??? Those guys were drafted after many players from other teams so pretty much all NHL amateur scouts agreed they were not as good as those guys. They are not big physical players either who can play a role.
@@francischabot1412 Sennecke was picked third as a HOPEFUL NHL player in a pretty lacklustre draft. But he won't be. He's about as average as his height. And Misa? Misa was MORE average on a borderline playoff team that's only good when he's on the ice. And mostly special teams. Decent skater, average shot. Good playmaker. But nothing outstanding BEFORE this year. Not even before October. Sorry, but having three weeks of excellent play after two unremarkable seasons isn't enough to call him one of Canada's best. If there's ANYTHING outside of maybe getting bodies in front of the net (which neither does) and staying disciplined, which NONE of team Canada this year had a problem outside this tournament, besides Cowan, you probably didn't watch the full games 🤷
@@francischabot1412 also. Don't take this too personally, but you're an idiot. The team has camps and exhibition games. Team had TONS of talent. Show me ANYONE who finds success spending 20-25 minutes in the penalty box every game. It's not a thing. Ignoring that by dumping on guys like Mynio (who was MORE disciplined than higher draft picks, like that means anything to anyone) is stupid.
This team had a compositional issue... When constructing a team, you have a formula you adhere to that PLAYERS know, but management can forget it. You don't just sort everyone by points, but rather, by role... First of all, they shouldn't treat the QMJHL like a subleague to OHL and especially WHL (which IS the weakest of the three). Second of all, you need to bring your: Two best snipers, (which they didn't... not even close... their best scorer was Martone, a power forward) Two best catalysts, Two best power forwards, Two best SUPPORT players, Two best OFFENSIVE defensemen, Two best DEFENSIVE defensemen, Two best SHUTDOWN forwards. It won't be your best players, but it WILL be your best team. And for goodness sakes, don't ignore the Q... they have a reputation for giving us CLUTCH players, and we had no grit or clutch on this team. Parekh, Poirier, Sennecke, Misa... all should have made this team. Yakemchuk was a toss up, because I don't like his defense... to me, he should become a power forward.
Cowen and Dickinson might be the most overrated players I’ve seen. Coaching was a complete disaster. Bonk should’ve been in the bumper from the start. And honestly Luchanko was their most consistent forward the entire tourney. Pretty good in all 3 zones. Should’ve got way more ice time. That Latvia game he scores on a breakaway and you don’t use him in the shootout!? Let alone being one of your faster skaters and you don’t use him in OT? Makes zero sense. There’s a reason why Dave Cameron isn’t coaching in the nhl still. What a moron. Also don’t get me started on the undisciplined penalties… yikes just embarrassing. It’s also not best on best if Russia isn’t there.
The fact that the coach could not reign in the penalties did it for me. 29 going into the final game, really?! We needed a Paul Maurice blow out moment on the Canadian bench. Disappointing.
Team Canada world juniors loss is a symptom of the erosion of National pride and Canadian culture. New neighbourhoods feature a asphalt pad and basketball hoops. Time to push back for beer, bacon, and communities centred around a community league, and outdoor rinks! Oh ya, and demand equal representation from across the country for National Teams. Canada deserves better !!
My three biggest problems with this loser team was🥇The GM for hiring that Head Coach🥈Head Coach Dave Cameron who was absolutely atrocious! No practices & saying the players are exhausted? They are 18🙄the game has passed this coach bye🥉the penalties they took & the line combos all wrong. They had players who had chemistry from the teams they play on but this momo coach refused to put them together! Fire the GM! Fire the Coach! Losing to Latvia🇱🇻this was the worst Team Canada team & the year before sucked so bad as well. The GM & Coach two MOMO's who embarrassed CANADA!!
Canada will never let non Canadian lead their hockey team. Just look at NHL, only this year they got first ever head coach that is not from North America. Hes from Sweden. Protectionism is real in Canada/US hockey, they dont want too much European players also, even if they are better
I stopped caring about this tournament when I realized that half the North American players would never make it to the NHL. The same applies to the first round of the NHL draft. Drafting young players is a crap shoot. The NHL represents such a leap up that many players don't have the speed, skill, and mental toughness to succeed.
How much money did TSN pay to broadcast the tournament? This is two years in a row that Canada doesn't medal. Only if TSN and SportsNet tighten the purse strings, will Hockey Canada stop picking the team on favouritism.
I have an opinion...The 1980 USA Olympic Men's Hockey Team picked their players to beat the Russians. They were not the best players in the US but the best fit to win as a team. Today all we see are All-star teams that have huge egos and can't play as a team. Somewhere along the line, coaches have forgotten that it's the best team that wins and not the individual athletes. Canadians have become so accustomed to winning it all that the people that pick the players don't think about the team but the superstar. The US has also done some of this in recent years. You can't win if you just throw a bunch of players together and hope for or expect the best results.
It looked to me like the coach came right out of the morgue , no life to him at all . He may been a good coach in the past ,but maybe it was time for a change . The whole system is gone woke . Maybe they thought the game was not about winning .
How are players at this age too tired? They need to be trained to stay with the energy of every team in the tournament. Where is “Herb Brooks” of Hockey Canada. He put together a team of a bit older guys, but still guys trying to make the NHL and they beat the best team (USSR)at their own game where they had won gold in 64,68,72 and 76. I’m not a fan of the US but Herb did it right. Great coach. Why doesn’t Canada find one of those. He never seemed to give them a day off and their practices ran late to condition them for the third period against a great Russian team. I know our players play in the CHL, but once camp starts, why not condition them to play in the toughest tournament there is? Also they could have advanced if they didn’t try so many fancy shots and miss. Just shoot the puck and it will go in. I hope Czechia wins Gold, but either team deserves it
You don’t win them all, having said that Canada has to lower their ego, that by putting on a Canada sweater is automatically a road to first place. National teams have gotten better over time. Pre tournament readiness was a problem from a coaching perspective. The team even in their wins where not the dominate teams you expect from Canada. I am not going to get into arguments of penalty calls or individual players efforts, but I hate shoot outs, and when you get to that point in a game no matter who you are playing, your heart is in your throat. Latvian played well and won, in the dreaded shoot outs, and that loss stunned the Canadian kids. They beat Germany on heavy legs, and it continued in the US game. Better Luck next time boys.
Hockey Canada and on a more micro level, minor hockey in Canada is super political. Kids aren't making AAA teams at all levels because lesser players are more connected. This has been going on forever. Now the system is run by rich dads who campaign for their kids.
BINGO
idk if its true, but this is a same thing, what fans spitin on the internet in Czechia and Slovakia for decades.
There needs to be another documentary exposing the corruption. It would be fascinating.
THIS is the truth.
This is the honest truth. I’ve seen it with two of my grandchildren. It’s simply terrible! This makes Canadian minor leagues political - and it NEVER stops all the way thru these major tournaments. CHANGE THE SYSTEM!!!
Ultimately, the players are just kids. They require structure and guidance. The blame is fully on the adults involved for not providing either.

Poor roster design on top of very poor coaching.
Sums up the entire country at the moment.

And the 2 gold medals Cameron won were on the backs of 2 of the best rosters Canada has ever sent to the tournament.
the players are to blame as well they made stupid decisions and playing selfish

He wasnt what they needed this year but let’s face it those guys played brain dead and should know better
Would say his coaching career has taken a set back.
Almost as bad as Ryan day.

There are so many great players in this country. The problem is nepotism that weaves its way throughout all levels of play.
It was obvious right from the get go that McKenna was Canada’s most gifted player and for him not to have seen more ice time is criminal.
Hockey Canada has to answer for this fiasco.
Well, they won't answer for it, so....
Ya right, you guys just need more "super star" kids each of whom wants to win by themselves and are too selfish to play together in any sort of disciplined way. Then you can just step out on to the ice and the actual TEAMS with discipline & heart will roll over and give up - correct?

Hockey is a team sport idiot. Dumbest comment period.
It’s really nice to hear Dregs being candidly critical of hockey Canada. Definitely appreciate his takes in this segment.
100% on the coach and who built the team....
There are a bunch of things happening, some of which other commenters have talked about:
1) Canadian Junior hockey has been allowing lots of players from Sweden, Russia and Finland to come over and play here.
As usual.
The practice thing is insane if true. Wtf are they doing lol
Seriously it was blatantly obvious that these kids were missing plays because they weren't familiar with eachother. So many needlessly bad passes.
Pathetic but yes true.
@@dixonhill1108 But I thought they built the team based on chemistry instead of talent so why are they missing plays? /s
Money under the table to get "my kid" ice time.
Politics.
I tthink you hit the nail on the head Hockey Canada does whatever they want and no one holds them accountable. It always favs southern Ontario only
Actually they used to (and probably still do) have quotas for Quebec players, and it was usually at the expense of ontario players.
Czechia was a team of divers. Don't bring that soccer mentality to hockey

DEI??? What, not enough white kids on the team? You're a fool.
Well, when you're not even on the radar because (like Misa) you really aren't much better than average until October of this year, chances are pretty high that a few good weeks isn't going to be good enough to pick you.

DD said it.."too many players from Ont." not enough from Que. & the West
They didn't even get the right guys from the O. Misa, Sennecke and Greentree would be better than Cowan, Ritchie and Schaefer
and the Atlantic provinces !,,,, jeez your just as unfair !
When asked about discipline after the USA game, Cameron said, "I can't. They have to decide. It's a short tournament."
Cameron needed to sit guys who took bad penalties.
There are bigger problems to deal with in Canada than losing a hockey game. Time for people to grow up a little
Isn't it amazing tho..if only Canadians would show their passion for their freedoms like they do for hockey this country might not be the commie shit hole it is now..
Then I suggest leaving comments on THOSE posts and not a hockey related one…….
Love all you guys.. love the show.. Happy New year
Coaching and roster construction were big reasons Canada's World Junior team lost its 2025 quarterfinal, and I hope that as a consequence:
- the entire coaching staff and scouting committee are replaced
- there is:
-- a legitimate development camp held during the summer so that hopefuls for the relevant 20216 have a much better idea of what is expected of them going into the actual tournament
-- more balanced on the roster so that players from across the Canadian Hockey League, not just the OHL or QMJHL, are selected
Here's hoping the under-18 women's team will do Canada proud via the winning of a gold, with that relevant IIHF tournament to start in under 24 hours in Southern Finland.
How many more years are you Canadians going sit there a complain about this or that "super star" kid when the only TEAMS that play disciplined, organized hockey win. Maybe instead of wanting your "great" kids to play, you should find a group that is willing to play TOGETHER with discipline.
The weird part is Canada's GM has been working in the WHL for decades yet chose mostly OHL kids.
Glad Pinder brought up the stupid goal review resulting in a delay of game penalty when Canada was FINALLY buzzing!

After the Latvia game, Cameron said we need to just forget it and move on (burn the tape, basically). At this level, if you don't play with intensity and passion (and Canada didn't except for the final minute of regulation against Latvia and the 3rd period against Czechia), you lose. Czech’s were playing more like Canada is supposed to blocking shots etc. we no longer can intimidate teams with aggressive play when the euro kids are playing against full grown men in their home countries. Dreger says you can't force goals into the net. Isn't that literally the objective of the game?
Thats where the issue needs to start being repaird... and then youve got a long way up fixing the rest from there.
other countries face the high costs too.

They have said this since the early 1990s not much has changed since then.
you could just smell the mental weakness of this team no surprise they blew it
The entire management group should be fired and never allowed to select a team again..
The '98 Juniors finished 8th! 9Gf/7Ga. 2 wins 2 losses. Lost 6-3 to. Kazakhstan in the 7th place game. Placed 8th. Not a great record either.

Re: Nations thing coming up in February. Worth remembering that the U.S. over-thought their roster in 2016: left off Kessel and couple of other talented players in place of big plugs they thought could deal with Canada's physical game. Big mistake. You don't need role players, you need the best players you have.
Where the hell were all the players from the WHL ?????
What's that? A league where 1/3 or more nhl picks are from? Nah, never heard of it. Cause OHL is special.
There were seven players from the WHL.
Ironically, Jecho, from the Oil Kings of the WHL put the dagger in Team Canada for the Czechs with under a minute to go in the quarters.
Canada has to put checking back into peewee or younger hockey. Every country has caught up or passed us in checking skills.
Why so we can get even more ridiculous penalties.
Checking correctly so we shut teams down and don’t take penalties
Time to put some new blood and new ideas into the Canada Hockey offices!
measured attack was missing in every game.... that says it all. All our play was outside and along the boards - offence was terrible.
Canada!!!
BINGO!
THE CONSERSATION IS NOW RUSSIA AND UKRAINE.
These guys must have missed USA v. Swiss where Team USA hardly celebrated at all. Besides, Canadians should be the least to complain about celebrations after watching their boys go after a score.
Dale Hunter..enough said
19 year old is not a child,
Hockey Canada should launch a big inquiry on hockey in Canada and find solutions to stop the decline…
Second of all, you need to bring your:
Two best snipers, (which they didn't... not even close... their best scorer was Martone, a power forward)
Two best catalysts,
Two best power forwards,
Two best SUPPORT players,
Two best OFFENSIVE defensemen,
Two best DEFENSIVE defensemen,
Two best SHUTDOWN forwards.
Dave Cameron is out of touch with the game and the selection of players to this team was very bad.
You wouldn't take Anthony Cirelli over Zach Hyman? I sure would.
Canada needs to wait til Flyers fire Tortorella and have him coach their WJC team 😂😂😂😂. Should get rid of some of the complacency atleast.
Does he need dual Citizenship?😂
Canada will never let non Canadian lead their hockey team. Just look at NHL, only this year they got first ever head coach that is not from North America. Hes from Sweden. Protectionism is real in Canada/US hockey, they dont want too much European players also, even if they are better
@@misterrr7 Based on what happened in soccer, maybe Canada should stick to Canadian born coaches. 😄
If I remember, Tortorella is American.
I stopped caring about this tournament when I realized that half the North American players would never make it to the NHL. The same applies to the first round of the NHL draft. Drafting young players is a crap shoot. The NHL represents such a leap up that many players don't have the speed, skill, and mental toughness to succeed.
Aftermath???? This is entertainment. Move on.
Snide comments about how USA celebrates and needing to take a shower due to their swagger…from a Canadian…well that’s rich
Ya, that was a stupid comment that made no sense.
Could not agree more than this. Bang on!!! - Herb Brooks: All-star teams fail because they rely solely on the individual's talent.
Funny how Canadians are disrespecting other nations. Hockey has evolved and Canada is no longer ahead the rest.
Herb Brooks: All-star teams fail because they rely solely on the individual's talent.
People were questioning the roster as soon as it was announced 😂
Dont give me any Ukraine BS. That war could have been over after 1 month except for Britain and USA intervening
You are nuts if you believe this nonsense
@misterrr7 ignorance is bliss
@@misterrr7Tipical brain dead Latvian, I myself am from Riga, thankfully left that neo naughty sh...le 12 years ago for France.
No excuses handle like man we lost😅
Don't forget the officiating and potential penalty 3rd period "acting" by the Czechs....thoughts?
