  • Mee Thao, Kevin Xiong's mother didn't know her son was gay until she discovered that he likes to dress up as a girl, paint his nails, and wear skirts. Mee Thao tells Xav Paub Xav Pom about her life raising a gay son and the struggle to come out. The constant verbal abuses from friends and relatives was a huge struggle for them. By coming out and telling their story gives them hope that others who are like them will also do the same.
We want to thank them for their courage for sharing their story with us. Photos provided by Kevin Xiong.

In many old cultures, those who inherit both female and male were considered to be the wise ones, shamans, preservers and caretakers. They were not discriminated. They hold a special position in the community as they can do both jobs of both sexes, they can see both worlds from both sexes. If you had a child who is gay, lesbian, or so forth.. love him or her... because that child will be the one who will embrace, cherish and love you the most ever. Very good video. Thank you for sharing.

I'm happy she's accepting of her son. I just came out last year of Christmas Eve to my family and friends. Took a lot of courage and I have also lost a few friends but that's okay too. I am happy for who I am. Even though my parents don't like the idea of me being a lesbian but I hope someday they will come to terms with it as well.

Just because we are not one, we don't understand, we don't know, it doesn't mean it is wrong. What we don't understand and don't know never said we are right or wrong. It just is. Life has so much more problems in the world then this. Let's all walk together with love and educate one and another...Love & Peace!

Thank you Mim & Koob Meej for your courage in sharing your story with us. It was very touching the love between parent and child and in all reality, despite differences, you are mother and son and no one can change that. Life is hard...it's not suppose to be easy but hopefully with loving family and friends we can get through the hard times so we can share the good times together. Indeed, you two are not alone in your story as there are many who have walked in your shoes. I wish you both the best in finding happiness!

Wonderful and toughing interview that i had to grab couple tissues. Kevin is a sharp and beautiful person inside and out regardless of his status. Mostly what touched me was his powerful love for his mom that won her heart. Love is powerful that will overcome any anything. Mom is lucky to have Kevin who loves her dearly and he is confident of who he is. The kind of love and that Kevin shows his mom is every mom's dream.

I think people mostly worry about themself first. If a man wants to be with a man or a female is in love with another female... that's nobody's problems but the two who are involve. If your culture, religlion, are family values are affected by other people's preferred sexual orientation, then, i think you have a problem.

Please do not quote the bible if your knowledge of it is very little. A true christian would know that it is wrong to be bixesual and against the word of God. Loving your neighbor means to treat others like how you would want to be treated. But God clearly says you will not inherit the kingdom of heaven through being bisexual. He loves all of us because we are his children but it is our choice to choose whether we want to listen to his words or not. That is how just our God is. 1 corinthians 6:9

The first marriage in human history came from Adam and Eve. God made it clear in the beginning when there were only two people, one male and one female, that man would leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife (Genesis 2:22-24). From the very beginning, God created us male and female and made mention that as we become married as male and female, man can not separate it (Mark 10:6-9).
