Magnetic Stirrer/ Plate Stirring Water from Level 1 to 10.

  • The magnetic stirrer is one of my favorite pieces of lab equipment. All told it’s just a motor spinning a magnet under the top of a hot plate. By putting a magnetic stir bar on the top of the stir plate they begin to move in tandem. If the magnetic stir bar is in a liquid it will form a nice vortex and mix the liquid.
    Although I’m using a smaller magnetic stirrer, the effect is quite dramatic with the vortex funnel quickly reaching down to the Stirbar. After that it starts mixing air bubbles with the water. The water rises in the beaker on the stir plate as the water is spun around the beaker.

    Do you reuse the same magnetic bar for different types of liquids? If I want to stir milk, I wouldn't use the same bar for stirring vitamin C powder in water.

      I''ve not tried the water but I'd guess that it would be slightly more sour than tap water from the CO2 being mixed in and forming Carbonic acid.

      Look up the Intllab magnetic stirrer on Amazon. Selling for $29.99 and stir bars going from $7 - $20+. No need to purchase anything like his Fisher Scientific magnetic stirrer unless you need one for commercial purposes. Used on eBay for $99. My Intllab looking and working like new after two years. Been using two of them 24/7 for a baby brine shrimp hatchery. If it ever goes out, ill just buy another one at only $29.

    • @DrBs-Other-Channel
      @DrBs-Other-Channel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used what is called a stir bar since they are a regular magnet coated in Teflon but won't scratch a beaker. But anything that is attracted to a magnet will work, even a paper clip (th-cam.com/video/K9CK-FL6apE/w-d-xo.html).

    Does this structure the water?

    • @DrBs-Other-Channel
      @DrBs-Other-Channel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On a macroscopic scale I suppose - the water is in a vortex due to the stir bar. But at a molecular level I'd say the water molecules aren't interacting with each other differently. -

    • @DrBs-Other-Channel
      @DrBs-Other-Channel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is that the motor in the magnetic stirrer is what is adding the heat. I'm not sure you'd be able to detect much of a change from the water moving (any heating might be offset by increased evaporation which would cool the water).

    Your actually adding a electromagnetic field in your water( charging) . Because of the vortex .
    Which is like adding a charge back into your water like how Mother Nature does by water being grounded and charged!
    I found a way to add two magnets on top opposite from each other to where it creates that magnetic force field and then the vortex brings it back into the water!
    After about a week you’ll notice a difference in alertness and it’s good for you body in general! There’s a doctor who charges his water in India , he charges it a different way but he refuses to see any patents unless they drink his charges water!
    It’s like charging a phone with a potato! But when potato is rotten, no charge left in it!
    Or like taking off our shoes and grounding them to the earth, it charges your body!
