Another Rutger's fan here. We want nothing but the best for your new head coach. The plan was that he would never leave unless its the right opportunity and this is the right time 4 him and U Mass!
Welcome to Amherst Coach Joe. All the best to you in your new role. I am one alumnus who is hoping that Chancellor Reyes and the alleged AD treat you a lot better than they treated your predecessor. Let’s hope the Admin learned from the bad publicity and well deserved backlash they received from the way they handled the timing and manner of Coach Brown’s dismissal, senior day festivities and the NIL Collective fiasco. Go UMass.
While recent circumstances surrounding the football program and athletic department have been discouraging, I don't think we could have realistically done better for a coaching hire. This will be an interesting new era. We've never seen what could happen if football was put first at UMass. It begins now with the move to the MAC, the recently announced funding commitments, and Joe Harasymiak.
I feel sorry for this Coach. Massachusetts football doesn’t have the facilities or the resources needed to win. No kid in his right mind would come to UMass to play football. Joining the MAC was even a more terrible decision. They were there before it failed miserably, and in their infinite wisdom, they joined again.. Some schools aren’t built for a division one A football, what they should’ve did was stay in one AA. Good luck to you coach you’re gonna need it.
kids will come because they'll develop and grow into great athletes and will either stay or transfer for big NIL deals. That's why kids go to smaller program. UMass can grow into a consistent bowl winning team.
If he wins 6 or 7 games, a low bar to meet with the transition to the MAC schedule, then the guy is labeled a savior and moves on to a better, higher paying P5 position. What surprised me was UMass hired him at his current Rutgers salary, $1.3m. If he wins 3-4 per year then he can always say hey history confirms that nobody wins at UMass. Hopefully, he transforms us into a MAC contender in time, despite the short comings of the current AD.
As a Rutgers fan, I can't help but root for him. Congrats to him and all the UMass football fans, you guys got a good one

This is going to be the worst decision he's ever made. Being the HC of UMass football has killed more careers.
