As someone who forgot April Fools was a thing, and has watched Bill and Ted more than the average amount, I was genuinely wondering where Lord Ravenscroft was going with this.
youtube is the best place for april fools jokes because half the time you'll be watching a video from april 1st after april 1st and won't realize its an april fools video till its too late
Excellent video, and I was really impressed by your analysis of everyone's hands, and what they meant in a historical context. Something I think might have been missing from your analysis is the context of the cards (especially Bill's hand) in the context of the tarot. Now, for those who don't know, the tarot is, in a pop cultural sense, understood to be able to fortell the future by a skilled reader. And while a lot of focus is put on the major arcana (cards like the chariot, the tower, and the star), the minor arcana all have their own meanings as well. And a standard card deck is basically just the minor arcana of a tarot deck with different symbols. So a quick referesher; the minor arcana have four houses; cups, staves, pentacles and swords. Cups represent air, harmony, and relationships. Wands represent fire, authority, and willpower. Pentacles represent Earth, Prosperity, and strength or health. Swords represent water, destruction, and knowledge. And each of these houses corresponds to a different suit in a standard deck; Cups correspond to hearts, Wands to clubs, Pentacles to diamons, and aces to swords. Which is to say that, for example, a ten of diamons would correspond to a ten of pentacles. Bill's hand, as best as I can tell, is Ace of Hearts Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds Ten of Diamonds and four or five of clubs. And that would roughly correlate to Ace of Cups Ace of Swords Ace of Pentacles Ten of Pentacles and the four or five of Staves. A mistake that a lot of would be tarot readers make is thinking that the deck from 'ace' to '10' means that there is more or less of a thing, but that's not quite true. It's more a matter of...refinement. An ace is water or earth or authority or destruction in it's most unrefined form, in the hardest form to use by itself, but the most malleable. The tens represent the aspect at it's most refined, at it's easiest to use or understand. The ten of cups is family, the ten of staves is kingship, the ten of pentacles is fortune, and the ten of swords is...well, it's death, because swords represent destruction and death is the purest form of destruction. Literally the ten of swords in the Rider-Waite deck is a dude lying face down in the mud with ten swords in his back. Put a pin in the death thing, we'll come back to it. So Bill has the most unrefined forms of harmony and relationships, prosperity and strength, and destruction and knowledge. He also has the most refined form of prosperity and strength. But the most interesting potential thing is the club card; the four of staves represents celebration and excitement, and the five of staves represents competition and hardship. The hand is telling it's own story; Bill is given the most unrefined version of relationships (the relationships between the cards) unrefined knowledge (high cards) unrefined fortune (several high cards) highly refined fortune (winning cards) and then wigging out and celebrating, or the competition/bar fight that breaks out. Actually, the MORE interesting thing is that the cards can correlate to specific acts of the film. What acts specifically? ...erm, I dunno. I actually haven't even seen this movie. Gotcha.
@@LordRavenscraft In fairness, I have been making youtube videos for a little bit longer than you. Also, I've been playing cards since I was...like, 8. My mother's stepdad went straight from the army to being a card dealer in vegas. What does that have to do with the tarot? Absolutely nothing. My dad just told me girls like having their fortunes told when I was at an impressionable age and I read half a dozen books about it. And also books about the zodiac. I had a strange and unsettling childhood. I don't like thinking about it. Anyway, your video on the joker was excellent, and I'm really looking forward to what you have to say about Knives Out. Thumbs up, and take care of yourself!
I got to the shootout scene and thought, "oh sh!t." I quickly opened the window and asked the random street kid "you there, what day is it?" To which the little urchin said "Why, it is the Fools Day of April, sir!" Then I threw snowball at him, closed the windows and took shelter in my closet... which is strange because I have no idea where I got a snowball in 69 (nice) degree weather.

Ted: Bill, I just have one question for you Bill: What is it Ted? Ted: What color is an orange? Bill: Ted, you bonehead! It's color is the same as its name! Just like a lemon.
I've never seen the movie, so I didn't expect the direction this would turn. I was still expecting SOMETHING to go weird but I died when I saw the immediate fuck up in the poker scene. That being said, I love the idea of the "examining board games as metaphor and character development in media" thing you've been doing lmao
I have never seen Bill and Ted, so when you actually got to... the game, I laughed harder than I have in a while. I was *expecting* you to kind of BS it, but I cannot say I expected that.

Texas Holdem was extremely popular even back in the 90's. A little 1998 film called The Rounders, staring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, was what got me into it.
For what it is worth, I think that the 2003 World Series of Poker is what brought Texas Hold ‘Em into prominence. It was the first year that it was a major ratings win on ESPN and the tourney was won by someone who qualified from an online system. I think this influenced what poker game they were playing in Casino Royale.
I watched surprisingly far into the game before realizing this was an April Fools joke. Like.. really far. 6:07 It's a sad time when the rules of the actual, original version of poker have to be explained with the caveat that it is different from an abriged version that is played with only two cards - instead of doing it the other way around. I feel your pain at 6:14, man.
Okay, so you're right... I'm calling you out in the comments! _(I used to run a poker game in my High School photography class)_ . [1] Everyone puts in the ante and the initial hand is dealt. . [2] There is NO betting until everyone has had a chance to exchange their cards _(the order does not matter here, but the dealer always goes last)._ . [3] The betting then begins with the Raise, Fold or Call options _(traditionally starting to the dealer's left, as you did, and moving clockwise around the table)._ . [4] When everyone has finished you show the cards & the winner takes the pot. . [5] You all put in the ante, and deal the cards but this time the person to the dealer's left becomes the dealer _(this is assuming there's no non-player dealer, obviously)._ . [6] Continue until all but 1 player has either quit or run out of betting materials _(usually either money or clothes in the case of strip poker)._ HAVE FUN!
Just to gently judge your poker playing, I believe everyone first places a bet on their initial cards, then gets one chance to discard to improve their hand. Some dealers would limit the number of cards that can be discarded in a round; otherwise, the entire hand can be replaced. Admittedly, most of my poker knowledge came from playing at camp with candy for chips, and I was never very good even then.
