- MKBHD is being bashed because he said something negative about a company. Except, it's his job!

Company makes a gadget nobody needs, blames youtuber for not helping.
Even if there are products users do like, a good example of this, let's take Nvideo, it still comes down to what is a normal purchase price compared to that ripoff pricey GPU.
If they can get a so-called popular smartphone and mass-produce it down to $10, why couldn't they also do the same for GPUs, all because a brand name company says it's a premium GPU?
Tf are you saying
So you're telling me this person doesn't stand to financially benefit from the rage baiting and controversy. Get the f out of here TH-camr.
It reminds me of the Segway. All the R&D and money and hype involved, and it was a nothing. Who needed it? I like MKBHD. I'm surprised the Tesla fanboys didn't gang up on him for dissing the Cybertruck. :-P
Not long ago a former US president visited Europe and commented _"...in the US, there are a lot of German cars. But I don't see any American cars in Germany...."_
Volkswagen CEO replied _"...just make better cars."_
Then the VW CEO shot himself in the foot by turning to the american practices of lying about emissions and trying to change laws about emissions. It's all become money-centered
You realize that their automotive and aeronautics industries are state subsidized, right?
@@UncleButterworth And US is no different? Pray tell, how do american manufacturers keep producing trucks like F150 and others?
@@UncleButterworth is that the reason why American cars are headaches most of the time?
100%! I don't get why people in Northern Europe get Teslas. A lot of people have issues with paint falling off, the suspension getting borked, electronics/mechanisms failing, headlights drawing in water etc... those vehicles just aren't made for our climate. They don't do well in our Winter. Same goes for french/italian cars.
Here's the thing... if you're a company and worried about if a review is going to be bad, don't send them a sample product to review it... it's that simple. lol If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
Exactly
Then a lot of people won't buy the product. You should be taking constructive criticism.
the problem is that, I bet a lot of people might not even watch the video, because the title and preview image is like "don't watch, it's just a bad product. don't buy it either, you're warned"
Well if you're a company and you're worried about if a review is going to be bad, your focusing on the wrong thing. You're the business of developing whatever the product is, not being all butt hurt because the version you sent to be reviewed got roasted by all the flaws you both knew that were there and failed to identify. They're crying over spilled milk failing to notice how far down s*it creek they've drifted and they don't have a paddle.
Exactly, if its a bad product people will find out eventually no matter if there were influencers either supporting them or dissing their products. There is some truth in this. Don't be fooled. Influencers is often likely to be biased wether they are big or small in the communities, cause they are after all trying to make a living on this, they are not nesscarily your friend. Just like any other they are trying to make a business. People still have to be able to sort trash reviews from honest ones and Mr Gamer Meld is himself a bit of a drama tablet news reporter. Not dissing any thing here, but just saying 😉No actually harm here as its just his way of telling about new products. The real issue is that influencers can do both good and harm here if they are not carefull how they put their words when they review stuff and they have to be absolutely honest wether they are sponcored or not when talking about specific products. I do think most of those I follow is doing their best to be as honest as possible. I have less respect for the actually companies when they try to do harm to reviewers when they honestly tell about faulty products and actually tries to do constructive critisicms and is hit with a wall of disrespect and blacklisting of getting review samples. Most companies is from time to time doing more harm to their own business credabillity themself than one bad review from a youtube channel by not promtly admitting the product should be fixed and instead trying to blame said TH-camr for being "against" them. That kind of business never pays off
Marques did that company a favor.. if they update it and fix it's current issues, that thing will be a much better product.
Marques pointed that out in his latest vid. He called Razer's gaming phone's vibration "trash" in his review, and Razer fixed it.
@@KyanoAng3l0 and that’s exactly what a review should do
If they respond like the Sonic movie's creators it could be beneficial. Good credibility in a new market is worth a lot.
There is no fixing stupid idea...
@@golimonkeyI don’t understand why anyone would buy such a device @ $700. For $25 more, you can buy a Samsung Galaxy 24 with its AI features!
Sounds like an angry investor to me.
Thank you!!!!This reeks of folks who most likely have money put into the company that makes the product.
@@MrSamPhoenix ill be honest it's apparently 700 bucks and my phone can do the same if not better etc. I wouldn't like the product either.
@@andrewszerbiak7330 exactly, we all knew it was a BS product before any reviews. I hope MKBHD doesn’t succumb to the fake outrage of the investors.
@@MrSamPhoenix he didn't, he posted a video the next day doubling down like the true review boss that he is. He is honest and that's a good thing. Maybe company's should make good products, if it's bad, they should continue working on it until they get everything worked out before sending it to someone who isn't on your payroll, that has no incentive to cover for them. The public should be happy that he told the truth bc they are the ones getting scammed if they purchased the product.
I was going to say the same thing... Its a slander campagn to burn a reviewer that hurt his profit margin...
I don't think MKHD needs to worry. The critics are upset that they have actually bought this junk. Wonder why Daniel V. doesn't seem to give a crap about customers? Hmmm?
The people that are attacking him reeks of folks who most likely have some money put into the company that makes the product.
he's probably one of the shareholders. lol
thats typical maltese customer service, that guy is from my country malta where businesses try to skin customers for money
So they would rather his 18mil subscribers to waste 700$ on trash vs. A company who made something bad loose money?
It’s not normal people that are mad, the one mad are investors.
Agreed!!! These attacks reeks of folks who most likely have some money put into the company that makes the product.
100% ❤
it's genuinely fucking bullshit that in the US it's illegal for companies to make moves that COULD lose their investors money. Investors can literally sue companies for making risky decisions if they lose money.
Investment is supposed to be a fucking risk. That's the whole balancing factor to it. The way it works in the US right now, investment is EFFECTIVELY free money as long as you have money to begin with. The system literally enforces "rich get richer".
I hate the people that are attacking him, but if he winds up giving in to the bullies, then I will hate him more.
Will hate who more?

@@X82YT I see. I can understand Gamer Meld's frustration. Things are just getting fucking ridiculous.
That's alot of hate for something that doesn't matter. Let it go.
He didn't give in. MkBHD released another video the next day where he doubled down on his views and stood strong. Definitely watch it. Maybe gamer meld can add a link to it in his video description.
Woah, AI products aren’t 100% reliable🤯
Man the internet is wild🤣
he saved milions of people from gettin scammed, then gets hated for it.
It seems like the only backlash that he is receiving is coming from people who likely have invested in the company or the product.
@@Bama_Boymost likely true
He's a reviewer. His job is to give an honest and unbiased opinion from his review experience. People getting mad because he did his job need to understand this and move on. If he gave feedback against how he sees it he'd lose credibility. It's the same reason gaming is in its current slump. Stop being sheep
Magazines in the late 90s / very early 00s became "yes men". The result was that people stopped buying magazines as their reviews couldn't be trusted. This happened before there was alternative reviews online. The internet did not kill magazines. Dishonest reviews killed magazines. This opened the door for people like MKHD and Linus to take over the market due to virtually no genuine competition at the time.
The reasons magazines started giving reviews that lacked honesty is at first companies offered to pay them to give good reviews. This is a form of hidden advertisement. As this behavior picked up companies went further refusing to sell any ads or do future business if they did not give glowing reviews. This put magazine companies in a bind. Most of their income was from ads. Without it they would fail. Many magazines did not cave and did fail. Then TH-cam popped up and it killed off the non-honest reviewers too.
The people that are attacking him reeks of folks who’re most likely have some money put into the company that makes the product.
AI company. Maybe AI reviewers.
@@LotsOfBologna2 I guess
Imagine defending a product designed to record you 24/7 and only ''activate on command'', which it couldn't do if it didn't constantly record audio in the first place....and then someone talks about tiktok's privacy issues.
Who wouldn't want to wear a miniature bathroom scale on their clothes?
Twitter user Daniel can't argue against what was actually said in the review so he has to pivot to attack the reviewer itself. Makes me wonder what his connection to the company is. Did he buy one, did he invest in the company.
The only reviews I pay attention to are from anonymous users, and from those large enough that it wouldn't matter if the company got mad because they're in a position where it didn't matter if they didn't get review samples.
this kind of mentality is why there's so many shit products
Dude was trying to spread corporatist mentality. He believes we should all be praising businesses and not criticizing any of them. If he gets one influencer to listen to his propaganda and obey, then he wins. Corporations already own America, its government, and all of your information. We all need jobs, and goods, and experiences, etc, but we don't need these people ruling us. This critic or whoever on Twitter is disgusting as are everyone agreeing with him. Glad MKBHD stood his ground and responded accordingly.
Licking the boot is a weird way of people, especially on "X" these days.
You are completely off here. This is probably a small startup company NOT A CORPORATION. It's one thing to trash the product of a huge corporation like NVidia or Tesla who might experience just a slight dip in their market value that day at the stock exchange but will be overall just fine in the long run, and it's an entirely different story if you do the same with a startup business where the owners invested their entire savings, energy and effort into the project of their lifetime and you go the extra mile and "season" your click-baity TH-cam video title with words like "Absolutely worst product I've ever reviewed". I'm not saying they shouldn't be honest about the defects or shortcomings of the product. But you really don't have to go the "extra mile". That's just farming the poor company for content. That's exactly what MKBHD did. He completely threw them under the bus. It's just like those TV shows accepting those really horrible singers to participate in the contest only to have the entire audience and entire nation laugh at them at how bad they sing. They are farming them for content because of their naivety. Nobody cares what happens with their lives afterwards. "Well, if they're dumb enough to think that they can compete here, than that's their problem"... right. And that's what makes you a jerk.
That item to me would be the biggest invasion of privacy since the google glasses
If the product is garbage, then it's garbage. And MKHD wasn't the only one that reviewed those products, and admitted, it was garbage too. And Fisker's stocks were taking a steep nosedive, way before MKHD did his review.
Bro was just saying the truth and that is what matters.
I dont blame MKBHD for "killing" Fisker, he might have helped kill them by showing the product and its flaws
People are irrational as hell. Let me explain, when a new phone is out you immediately want to buy it even when there's nothing wrong with your last one. It is that way with everything you own. You bought a car a couple years back, it was fine, still is, your neighbour bought a bigger truck with more power, now you want one just cause he/she has one. Humans just want new shiny things even though they don't even have a use for it or when the one they have are just as functional. Everything became disposable because that's what the majority wants.
This device will be a future feature of an average phone, people are mad because they wasted their money investing in this.
They are stupid, they made a bad investment and they are coping.
Seriously, MKBHD said nothing wrong in his video. And these people were so silent when Linus screwed up really badly.
What did Linus do now
@@MrMariovideo13there's a lot of coverage about it. It was an internal error, hardly Linus' fault directly.
@@MrMariovideo13not much really.
@@AL-lh2ht Not much?? He misused a waterblock with the wrong GPU and then gave it a bad review. Then.. auctioned it, instead of returning it the the two guys who engineered it. GN even grilled them for it, among many other things.

I find it crazy. That companies are like hey this product reviewer has 18 million subscribers. He could definitely help our company. Let’s send him a product. Development team: The product is not ready yet. It still needs work. Marketing team: We don’t care send it!
Product Reviewer: This products is pure ish. Company how dare you give us a bad review on a trash product & not help us screw so many people out of millions! 😂😂😂
Companies: How DARE you be informed consumers???
The guy is myopic. What's even more harmful? Reviewers giving fake reviews and millions of consumers getting cheated by bad products? Or one company that makes bad products getting incentivized to make better products to avoid bad reviews?
Two points here:
- If a reviewer is providing incorrect information (or misunderstood how the product works), criticism of the reviewer's work or a request for retraction by the company to the reviewer would be appropriate;
- Now, if reviewers' criticisms of a product are valid, there is nothing to dispute: the ethical commitment of (good) reviewers is to inform THEIR AUDIENCE of the pros and cons. If the company was unhappy with an (honest) review from a reviewer, let it improve the product's pain points and release a better version in the future.
For me it's that simple.
Agree
I feel pissed, too. The thumbnail made me think I was clicking on a MKBHD video but instead it was this.
Little tip: always try to use dark mode on websites, much more comfortable for your viewers specially for those who have larger monitors and like to be in darker rooms.
That's why we call marketing teams "Ministry of scamming/lies"
WoW! You're uploading in 4K now. 😯 ABOUT TIME! Is this just a one off thing or is this going to be a consistent thing now? 🤔
The strangest thing about the Humane AI drama, is that people were saying this stuff when it was first announced a year or two ago. All the reviews did, was confirm what people were ALREADY speculating about it. But for $700 and a $24/month subscription, I don't see how anyone can genuinely be mad at a bad review. It's the literal reason we have reviews. To save you from buying sub par products. Ironically, had he lied and gave it a stellar review, they'd claim he was paid to do the review.
Probably a marketing team trying to save their employers products and a fake comment
Dude now i respect you MORE
I appreciate your honesty and your bravery 👍
Man, I still remember watching his youtube channel years ago under 100k subs... Marques is flying fast, good for him.
That is a scammy device he reviewed. It would be possible to build something that can do all of what it can do (and one might argue the projector feature can even be skipped) for a fraction of the price. One that becomes a dead brick if you don't pay outrageous subscription fees. The company is leeching off the AI hype and hoping to rope in enough suckers to make a quick buck with that ridiculous price tag.
So let me get this straight they sent him a product to review. He reviews it gives it a bad take because it’s a bad product and now they’re mad because he gave it a bad review. Interesting. So basically companies want you to give them a favorable review even on a bad product! Yet they want our money. So basically they want us to spend our good hard earned money on bs products! Make it make sense!
Wow, its been so long since yt offered me one of your videos. I better hit the bell because i used to watch your stuff all the time years ago.
I totally agree with your take on this topic. I want honest reviews and if i was to find out a reviewer was taking money for a good review then thats something to be pissed at, not this rubbish idea of "do no harm" to a product regardless of how bad it is or how expensive it is.
Some people are just illogical and there's nothing you can do about it. So frustrating...
They must have seen way to many Billy Mays commercials.
It’s funny how people are hating for a tech reviewer reviewing a product
People get butt hurt so easily these days. We aren't even allowed to have our own opinions anymore.
Whatdup Texan !! I was inside Bucees yesterday on my way home from work!! Small world !!
They let multiple reviewers play with it. They must've thought they had a great product. They don't. At the very least it still needs some work.
Viewers need to understand that reviews aren't paid advertising. Reviewers hold the right to say what they want about the product, including bad things.
If viewers only want to hear good things, stick to official press releases.
Don't complain about people doing their job, and calling trash, trash. You watch them because you trust them. If you don't trust them, ignore them, don't get your panties in a knot.
This criticism of honest reviews is a growing plague. Look at what has been going on with Erin's Audio Corner and New Record Day. These reviewers have the product companies threatening to sue them for giving a mediocre review. Even a moderately positive review that points out and negative issues makes a reviewer a target. Disagree with the manufacturer and they will sic their lawyers on you. You hit the nail on the head - these crybullies want every consumer to have no other choice but to use their hard earned money to purchase substandard products and be then stuck with them.
Part the problem to is big companies are paying people to write backlash to try and sell bad products
$700 for a completely new product and a $24 subscription for the services. Madness. If it is tagged with $700 it should be judged on that standard. Even a PS5 isn't that costly. And in a world of smartphones new techs should at least have a humble start. It's pretty clear the company wants to go on an Apple path right of the bat. Worst product indeed.
Imagine some biased users of userbenchmark get pissed at the existence of the LTT Labs website getting more traffic than them...
or someone filing lawsuits against LTT for reviewing a product because "The Product has Terms and conditions that restrict your from posting reviews of it".
Absolute BS.
Mr WhosTheBoss and Austin Evans have also done videos slamming this product. Heck, Mr HTB was in the room with the CEO and experiencing the failure. Why is MKBHD the only one being mentioned by anyone? It's not like his review was an outlier and the only one trashing it.
This is the problem with so many big "reviewers" now. They are scared to call a product junk, when it's junk.
never silence the consumer.
When I am interested in buying a product, I research reviews and experiences on TH-cam, forums, subredits, etc. I noticed alot of reviews are sponsors or shills, so I appreciate those that give their honest opinion, because that is what I am researching. The last thing I want is a shit product so I value honesty and integrity. I've been following his channel of many years and he's always been both. Don't sweat it, trolls be trolling.
If a reviewer is not critical of a product, they are not making a review they are making a commercial.
MKBHD got big for political reasons. The TH-cam algorithm attracted certain types along the way.
Agreed. I expect as much of the flaws as there is. It's not like I can test it and return if I did not find it useful to me.
If it's any consolation to this poor CEO: We are ALL subject to the exact same level of scrutiny. Get with the program.
Your fine :D
Roger Ebert destroyed a few films with reviews, and good for him because he kept people from going to go see trash. That's why his book "I hated, hated, hated this movie" was a best seller. It's why he's still beloved after his passing and his reviews still get brought up for films. If you can't tell the truth about a product because it might hurt someone, then some investors need to realize that's why they took a risk
He’s a reviewer. He’s not doing PR for the company. Thank God he’s willing to tell the truth and not just be another corporate shill.
It's easy to scapegoat someone else instead of admitting your own failure to create a good product. The arrogance and lack of humility should give a glimpse of who is right or wrong in the whole story. But at this stage, if someone still thinks MKBHD is the one doing wrong here, you should check your common sense and behavior towards other people. You could be the one in the wrong on many things in your life.
I would never want an AI pin on my body, imagine the ability to spy?
Linus already gave feedback on this ages ago and he said it was trash too.
22 million versus 11,000.
What are we discussing here? Move along.
MKBHD didn't hurt that company. That company hurt themselves with a stupid product that no one wants or needs.
Being an honest reviewer isn't easy, but Marques does it very well.
Ty for covering this 👍👍
dang, I've never seen you so heated before...its honestly kinda scaring me but I love the enthusiasm!
So glad i deleted social media. This is just button of the barrel company bs. MKHB needs to stay strong!
Cash grab for a dumb product like Ouya.
It's called reviewer not praiser
It would be unethical to try a bad product and give it an honest review.
I just say Hey Google to my phone, even in my pocket and it answers things for me.
The guy is simply an Internet troll - they come in many shapes and sizes. I watch MKBHD for his honesty.
This is a perfect example of cart before horse. They wanted people to buy this unfinished beta product on the promise of future updates and features. Customers are not venture capitalists; they don’t exist to fund you until you deliver a finished product.
Think of it in another way. A bad restaurant review can cripple a business.
Is it The New York Times responsibility to be nice and not tell the true about the reviews experience?
Also. What is yelp for?
When I look at a review on yelp I don’t look at single persons opinion on a product. When a single person has millions of people watching him and he personally doesn’t like the product that’s not necessarily accurate. He should’ve invited people to try the product in his video and see if they felt same about it. Many TH-camrs do that when they go around asking people what they think of a product.
If your company is one bad review away from being destroyed, maybe that company shouldn't exist in the first place
You are so right about the skewing, propaganda, and even lies in marketing brands. It happens across all industries, not just tech. Great insights video.
Empty cans make the loudest noise.
One very big irony here is that people online bash him for the youtube review, the CEO of the company thanked him for the honest review and moved on (At least I saw the post from them on twitter). Like bruh xD
Bad products kill companies, bad reviews merely accelerate that process (if they couldn't learn from the reviews and recover fast enough that is). As Marques said it himself, it is the reviews being honest and genuine that we value the most, and that was exactly what he did and had been doing
Both Marques and Arun from Mrwhosetheboss both had pretty similar thoughts: if the ai pin connected to your phone (because lets face it, if you're thinking about spending $700 on a phone, you probably already have a flagship phone from 3 years ago or less) instead of being standalone, it would make a lot more sense. using the phone's hardware capabilites instead of the cloud, connecting to the phone's apps, and using the phone's cellular plan, it would be far more useful than how it is now.
I completely agree with your points. if the product is bad, it needs to be said in the review "this is a bad product". thats the whole reason reviews exist - to see whether a product is good or not.
was he supposed to lie in his review and mislead his viewers?
I've seen his and 6 other reviews of this joke of a product, not one of them were positive about it. It's bad enough that games are being launched and sold in an unfinished state. Release a shitty unfinished product, and this is exactly what you deserve.
I appreciate a honest review, it saves me money and a headache.
SOMEONE needed to make this video. Because, 100% these people are categorically wrong, and I've review isn't going to destroy a company. And if it does, they clearly weren't that stable to begin with!
They’ll blame anyone but themselves. Not taking accountability needs to be expunged from our culture ASAP.
all hail the corporations. purchase the products and do not criticize. For managed democracy!
MrWhoseTheBoss also made a review and was brutally honest about that product. My respect to Marques and Arun sky rocketed after those reviews
it has a snapdragon 720g
3rd party reviews is part of peer-reviewed or sometimes specialist-reviewed analysis. IT IS NECESSARY to have a critical view of a product, service, or development. The Scientific Method works this way. If your service/product can't even adapt to a critical analysis then what happens if a better service/product comes out? what you're gonna keep to your service/product? not improve? not develop better services?
Critical Reviews aren't there to kill/destroy. They're there to help decision making and possibly see the reason why a person might need it or not, regardless of what service/product it is.
If you're a product developer, it can be an avenue for improving your V.2 product or understanding the ergonomics of your target customer.
In society, if you hate criticism and would only want to hear positive things about yourself then you want to live in an echo-chamber where you're perfect and nothing needs to be done to improve your situation. Then you're stagnant, underdeveloped, and isolated.
Phew. The way you started I thought you were going to be pissed at MKBHD. Glad I was wrong. He, and other reviewers need to truthfully say what they think about a product. Like you said, otherwise there is no use for reviewers.
A good reviewer tears a product apart and gives the truth about it. If the product is trash, that has to be said. MKBHD did an amazing review and took all the time necessary to back his opinion with fact. He did a good job. That's a bonus in my book.
Marques review of that product is completely valid, and (to me) it was dead on. I hope that company makes the changes Marques suggested. I hope he keeps up his "Real Reviews" going. That's how I found your channel ... real and honest reviews.
Has someone seen the joke the Limitless(AI Device)made ? They say the price is 699$ and then cut off the 6 and the final price is 99$. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
So I agree, if you don't like one product please say it, don't say bullshit and make me buy something that is opposite. So thx BKHD. I will buy now the Limitless AI device for 99$ 👌✌️😂
No hate!
Him making the video in the first place made the company richer 😅
If you want a good review don't make a dog crap product? And on the flipside of that, if you don't want to be put on blast for making a crap product be better. Absolutely no sympathy for these losers, bunch slackers unhappy that the bar is too high for them.
When you come up with a stupid product, then a reviewer has an obligation to say it's stupid or a bad product.
From the beginning you could see that the product was useless, everything it does could be integrated into an app on a smartphone or smartwatch
If the product is bad then must be unsold, if the investors are bad then must lose money until they are broke or in debt. Easy!
honest reviews - we are not asking for anything else
