Sadly, the daily train was that size 6 days a week in 2000. We had two jobs back then, one hauling the cars to Portola and back and the other spotted the industries. Very nice video and thanks for the jog down memory lane.
Great coverage of a rare beast! As is well known in my household, I am “obsessed” with the Reno Local. From the area I live (Sutro/McCarran) I can tell from the horn blasts it’s chugging up the hill from Fourth St. I’ll say ‘it’s the Local’. They think I’m a nut.🤤
th-cam.com/video/efibzqbiVa8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TXmbhZxg2Nk_nl3i This is the only time I ever caught the Local. At night. Wrote a sick tune I put to it. Cool channel!
I always hit the traffic on my way back from work on the Sparks / Veterans overpass, occasionally seeing a train on the tracks makes the wait worth it though. Awesome video amigo!
Great video. I well remember when the local ran from Parr Yard to Reno Junction in the early 1990's. The cars were then set out to be picked up be an eastbound train to Winnemucca & beyond. Not uncommon to have more than fifty cars on the local back then.
The Reno Branch Line was originally built as a narrow gauge by the Nevada California and Oregon RR. From Reno it traversed the Reno Branch and then up to Flanagan, Wendel and the Modoc Line to Alturas then up to Lakeview OR
Years ago when I used to go to the Reno Air Races out by Stead Airport I remember there was train tracks along the 395 and at Stead Airport are those the same ones that you see here? I never did follow them and knew where they went. Wasn’t familiar with the area to be honest still not familiar but I haven’t been to Reno in years. Thank you for the video either way.
Just found your channel with this vid. Very nice. I was gonna suggest the Mina branch and Fernley switcher; but in scanning down your vids it looks like you have covered these and more. The area is rich with cool train stuff and all those branches. I model the Mina branch as part of my layout, but only get into Wabuska. (It's the SPNG standard gauged) I look forward to checking out what you've caught.
Thank you! I have covered the Mina Branch and the Fallon Branch back in the early months of 2024. Unfortunately, that was back when I had a bad tri-pod!
Very well done video. I've often wondered about this train as I've seen it approaching Bordertown. Is there ever any interchanging of cars at Reno Jct.? Sometimes, when I look at the track as CA SR-70 passes over, the track seems to look shiny as if a train passes over it.
Another Reno Branch video is in the works!
Stay tuned!!

So you would go by Pevine mountain right?
I noticed that the right of way is "solid" with with welded rail and concrete ties. How it's been there?

Excellent video, nice to see the scrap siding still in use.
Great video! Thanks for sharing...

Very nice video. That local has some nice looking 70Ms.
Nice video. I have lawys been fascinated by this branch with the sharp curves and steep grades. Thanks for putting it together.
Nice coverage of the branch, great shots, excellent video !

My town ;) nice to see this because there's not much out there for Reno up through Patrick etc

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the local this long before

For those of us not familiar with the area, maybe a little map would help a little bit

What a pain having to carry those poles around. What are they used for?
They make it easier to set handbrakes from ground level.
Thanks for the info. I see crews carrying them and always wonder why.
What Days Does The Reno Local Run
Monday, Wednesday, Saturday.
Whats the stick the guy is carrying when he jumps off?
The crew uses the stick to tie handbrakes on railcars from the ground.
Yoooo ex NCO section (before the WP took the line over)
