Yep the story of HAGANE is a bit sad. They were one of this small bands but they had something special. Extremelly charismatic and talented singer, UYU; one of the best guitar players in this japanese female wave, Sakura, the leader of the band and I think at the level of the best, miyako, midori, kanami, etc. Accompanying them a second lead guitar also excellent, mayto. They did an excellent album, Code;9021 with several good MVs (for example, BlackCult), and when people was starting to talk about them pam, three of the band members leave, including UYU and Mayto, just when it felt they were going to explode. So we've been calmly waiting for Sakura to rebuild the band, and damn she has spent nearly two years but she has done it, bringing JUNNA, that's one of the better known female drummers in Japan, and this new singer from a village in the south no one knew before but that they found in an audition process. Both of them excellent (this time, no second guitar). So yeah, I'm now very hopeful for them, this whole comeback EP has been excellent and this MV has been a big success for them. Let's see how it goes for them in the future.
Junna is a very well known and established super drummer . Her videos have over 5 million views of her just playing solo on her channel. She was was an original member and founder of Trident. She afterwards left to persue other projects. Now a full fledged member of the new lineup of Hagane! You mentioned in the video Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue as the drummer but it’s actually Tommy Lee. Oops . Great job on the reaction! Keep up the good job 👍
Incredible song. This EP has had a profound effect on me. Junna brings an energy. Her drumming on song DATT, she hits those Apache helicoptor rythum. Sakura one of best guitarists out there. Nagi has a beautiful voice, warmth, brightness, power. And subtle voice inflections.
Junna is a beast. Hopefully they can stabilize with their members. Excellent musicians. The Japanese metal/rock scene is incredible. If you really want to dive deeper Lovebites, Band-Maid, Nemophila, Hanabie, East of Eden + others are a must listen. There are an incredible amount of elite musicians in Japan and they have been all gaining traction the last 3-4 yrs
Not sure if you are familiar with Junna. She is the former drummer of TRiDENT when they were known as "Girls Rock Band Kakumei". They changed the band name after she left and Nagisa joined them. Nagi says she is a novice and is her first time in a band. The former vocalist, Uyu and guitarist, Mayto, went on to form Mana Diagram. Kinako the former drummer is currently doing session work like what Junna was doing until now. It's too bad TRiDENT took down all of there GRBK videoa, but others have reuploaded them. I have a really early one on my channel when GRBK was a four piece. You may review it if you like.
On the subject of combining speed and power on drums: Senri Kawaguchi (in the conversation for best drummer anywhere) actually made a video on how someone on the small/thin side even for a Japanese woman generates the power to get the resonant drum sound she's looking for without sacrificing speed or precision. It's fascinating stuff, and it works: Senri has the speed and technique you'd expect from a world-class fusion drummer, and the drum tone you expect from great metal and hard rock drummers who get the shells resonating with hard hits.
Also: glad you called out Sayaka's excellent bass playing. She flies a bit under the radar, as bass players who don't overplay sometimes do. But she's playing really interesting lines while always providing that massive foundation and staying precisely on-tempo. She seems to be combining with Junna really well right off the bat, and look to become another great female J-rock rhythm section (like Nemophila's "Laughing Thunder" Haraguchi-san and Tamu Murata, Lovebites' Fami and Haruna, Misa and Akane from Band-Maid, East of Eden's Wakazaemon and Mizuki, Serina and Nagisa from TRiDENT, and the list goes on...).

I just wish they were a dual guitar band. There’s a lot of multitracking to make this work, which isn’t going to happen live… at least without backing tracks which would be a shame. 🐺🎸🐺
