Each morning glory flower lives for only one day. But what a spectacular display on the day each arrives! In this video, I document the 4 month journey of planting morning glories from seed to flowering. Growing morning glories. I hope you enjoy.

Wow, I'm about a month & a half into my 2 morning glories...ur spot on I bought them at sprouts from a local farm at $5 each...I was surprised when they survived a week of me being out of town & now I'm really protective of them!! They grow in such an inspiring way, I like to talk to them...maybe I'll see them in bloom one of these summer mornings 🌄 but if not just their growth spurts in green keep me smiling

Lol love the flowers, got some different ones growing this past season (heavenly blue, grandpa ott, white/blue strip, white/purple strip, red) and she is so right about being an early riser. Unless I'm out at like 11 or 12 I won't really get to see the flowers. Thank goodness I planted a moonflower, at the time I didn't really realize I would be much different but was surprised how big the flowers were and the fact that they bloom in the evening. I'm going to plant a lot more next year

  • @ariannagonzalez2618
    @ariannagonzalez2618 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I have read that you will get more leaves and less flowers if you feed them. So they don’t require all the nutrients to grow, you can use poor soil. Also if you have them in in shaded area they will close earlier in the day vs full sun. You can plant the moon flower to get the evening blooms so you never miss the blooms and they attract moths, and bats at night 😎

I planted some Not started from seed and it wants to rule the world! Fortunately it hasn't produced seeds. I'm pretty sure it's called Ipomoea Indica. You'd love it b/c it winters over; as long as you can mow off any ground runners. One color though - blue to redish-blue as they age.

Hello from the Treasure Valley in Idaho. I don't know how I got the morning glory blue in my yard but they are absolutely beautiful. From my experience morning glory comes back year after year and if you don't take care of it and keep it pruned, it will overwhelm your other plants. So I'm keeping these pruned and in a specific spot. Thank you for your video. I did not know what they were called :)

Just came to you from seeing your comment on Laura's channel- I say keep at it! Your videos are great! I suspect your channel will do great! Just give it time!
I grew morning glory for the first time this year as well, & OMG! I just needed something inexpensive to climb an arbor I bought until I decided what roses I wanted- & I had never liked the morning glories I saw in the packets @ the stores, but I tried it anyways... I'M SOOOO GLAD I DID! They look so much more beautiful in person! Only problem is you want to take them out before they start to set tooo many seeds, or you'll have a million morning glory babies next year! (I let mine go to seed to collect some seeds for a video, stayed having a ton fall & germinate. I was able to collect about 1500 seeds in just a couple days!
(I have a gardening channel too if you wouldn't mind checking it out! )

I had my first Mini Flower garden with my sister that consisted of These Beautiful Morning Glories, Cosmo plants, California Poppies and Dahlias two years ago, in June of 2019.
We didn’t really have all too many Dahlia’s bloom, and for the CA. Poppies, they grew for a little while and we got some pretty flowers! My Morning Glories and Cosmo plants however grew massively and most beautifully! The morning glories and cosmo plants looked so beautiful in the morning, and I remember that one time The Cosmo and Morning Glories’s stems intertwined, and the Morning glories whent they were first blooming looked like pretty little Unicorn Horns. They were so beautiful, but then they stopped growing in the first few months of 2020.
I actually do not know if Morning Glories are annual, but the Poppies and Cosmos are starting to make their comeback! We are planning on having another Mini Flower garden, and I feel inspired from this video! (Sorry for typing a bunch-) 🌸🌺🌼🌷🌹

I’m so glad I found this video, and it’s also really relaxing! So I had a seed mix that I planted back in maybe July, and I thought it said cosmos…so I was looking online to see what they looked like, and waiting to see them bloom! But to my surprise, today I looked at where I planted them and it was not a cosmo that was blooming lol! I couldn’t tell what they were, and now I see that it will be a whole pot of morning glories! 🌸 💐 🌺

    “It’s pretty tragic, isn’t it?”
The question stopped Tommy dead in his tracks. He turned towards the person who’d asked, and found himself in front of a girl seated by a grindstone, slowly sharpening a small blade. “Pardon?”
The girl smiled as she nodded towards the flowers in his hands. “Morning glories. They wilt the same day that they bloom, lasting only until the sun sets.” She paused. “Maybe less, now that you’ve picked them.”
Tommy flushed with embarrassment, suddenly getting the urge to hide the bouquet behind his back, as if that might somehow erase what he did. “I’m sorry, I didn’t think about-”
The girl simply laughed. “No, don’t be. I would be the world’s biggest hypocrite if I told you off for picking flowers.” At Tommy’s confused look, she explained, “I own a flower shop, back in the city.”
“Oh.” Tommy looked down at the flowers clutched in his hand, his brows furrowing as he thought. “It is sad, I suppose, that they die so quickly. But aren’t they beautiful while they last?”
The grindstone slowly ground to a halt as the girl merely sat there, staring at Tommy with an inexplicable expression on her face.
Well, thought Tommy, this is awkward.
“You know, Your Highness,” the girl said at length, “you remind me of someone. He’s a soldier in this camp, and about your age, as well. He’s off somewhere training right now, but I have this feeling that if you’d only meet, you’d make good friends.”
... I do not regret this

Can the morning glory live in that pot forever? Or do i need to transfer to another larger pot or plant it on soil when the root becomes longer?

You can hang them in a planter or let them run along the ground

First time planted some in nursery pot and it germinated to a few inches but it doesn't look as healthy as yours. Do you use regular potting mix or a special mix. Ideally I want to transfer them into the ground because they are perennials but I haven't' decide if I am going to leave it in pot or ground. Any tips would be appreciated it.

I used a seed starting mix, but it shouldn’t make a difference. Make sure the seedlings are getting at least 6 hours of direct sunlight. They might just need a few more weeks. Depending on where you live be careful about letting their seeds get onto the ground of your garden as they can be invasive, really hard to get rid of. I’m curious if I will have that problem. Once you decide where to plant them, remember to pinch them off when they are 6-8 inches to get more fullness. Hope this helps. 🌱

@@lifeinseason I used seed starting mix, indoor, that's probably why they aren't growing as best. Thank you for the wonderful tips!

@@lifeinseason Perhaps they are not getting enough light or maybe I need to repot them. I'm from the UK and we havan't quite reached the summer yet. I was hoping to plant them indoors ready for the summer.

You may not need to plant more next year if the seed pods have opened as they will be coming up all over your garden.
