The Church, aka Forden and his possee, made the competition in the first place to make the people choose their king... but the King himself didnt make the competition, the church just made this all up, and they want the people to choose Forden since hes the leader of the Church, the Church being in power is, as you can see, not a good idea since its corrupt at the very top.
Louis knows this very well and doesnt join the competition, since it was gamed from the start.
God I love this game
Louis is like Griffith in a sense before he went bat shite crazy

31:26: imo but I'm a little bit bias, (I'm telling this now because I know I'll get called as being Louis Apologist). Louis for me is decent person but extremists with his believes but considering how he treats the people especially the Magnus brothers and Zorba. If Zorba almost treats him like a God it means Louis really gave him a chance better than the supposed good people. Forden and the Sanctist church looks like they are not above in doing something more than murder I don't trust shit they do
Louis is not a good person and he kills without question but if it's about Grius botch assasination, I'd do the same he'd do. Someone is trying to kill me so of course I'd kill them. No hard feelings you're trying to kill me first.
Then again, I really like Louis. I don't want any debate telling me I'm a bad person for liking him.
Tldr: I spoiled myself and what he wants is very valid imo
There isn't any shame in liking the villain of the story, Louis has mega charisma because he's confident in his ideals and his goals.
Compared to the Church, Louis is a stand up dude just doing what has to be done... but in the eyes of the story, he's not a good guy.
I like Louis as a villain too but he still has zero redeeming qualities. The church kills people if they get something out of it, while half the time Louis seems to kill random people for the love of the game and belief that might makes right. I would compare his philosophy to Armstrong from mgr.
I think it's less him being likable, and more just him being a charismatic dick. Kind of like Dio from Jojo. The dude is inherently evil, but he has the swagger and strength and presence in the story to back up the fact that he is strong and he is imposing, unlike Forden who's scheming in the BG.
