For more context for the inspiration for the Reigar and the Lakshu, check out the anime "Legend of Heavenly Sphere Shurato". I believe that both are characters in said anime, along with the inspiration for the shakti. Side note - anime is unfortunately the source/inspiration for a lot of SJ's more over-the-top entries in the Monstrous Compendium sheets. Aside from that, video is fairly informative and well-done.
@@AJPickett Anime is fine as an inspiration, but copying material whole-cloth, including names (Lakshu, Reiga) is just begging for trouble ;) BTW, if you ever tackle the bio-weapons of the First Unhuman War (Bionoid, Spirit Warrior, Witchlight Marauders), just know that bionoids are from The Guyver (including even the egg and ability to take over a body if the eye-gem touches flesh!), and the Spirit Warriors are from Aura Battler Dumbine. I have not yet identified the source, if any, for the Witchlight Marauders; they may have come from Aura Battler Dumbine as well. A fan-lore sphere does explain the source of the witchlight marauder, a sphere called "Witchligh" (by Noah Bonebrake) that is nice, creepy, and probably right up your alley. www.spelljammer.org/worlds/Witchlight/

I wonder were the Reigar created by some god of Art and Magic that is maybe now long dead? Because they don't seem to be natural creatures the way they reproduce has more in common with planar creatures more than material creatures perhaps they never lived on a Prime Material world and it was just a legend. perhaps in truth they where inhabitants of Limbo who represented Chaos as a force of wild, untethered, creativity that were driven out into the prime, by the much more aggressive and driven Slann. In fact if this is true maybe Primus planting the Spawning Stone in Limbo and turning the Slann from mindless beasts of Chaos into the race it is today, was a machination by the Rilmani to remove the much more frivolous and flighty Reigar with a race much more adept at spreading chaos and keeping law in check for the sake of the cosmic balance similar to what the Rilmani did with their own Predecessors the Khimeral.

He has divine powers and magic & is a patron and guide to good adventurers. Also, his alignment is neutral good. He feels that the rules sometimes are needed to be bent but only within reason. Also, his eyes glow white when angry or annoyed.
Apparently they created The Spelljammer... that badass looking Mantaray looking ship.
I mean... It looks like a luxury space yaught right?
Please do pre god timelime work sometime. im trying to figure out how the worlds stood before gods shaped things. Spell jammer is
amazing and im trying to do timelinework for my setting.
Since most gods can travel through time, as soon as they emerged from the Astral plane there was no longer a prehistory without them being present. Gods predate their own origin.
I am not sure if the Reigar will appear in the upcoming 5e Spelljammer books. They do sound interesting though.
We didn’t get much but they’re there. As well as Hastain as a character in the bundled adventure.
I hadn’t known they were from Ysgard. Weird that we know the plane they were first created on but not the name of the planet they destroyed themselves.
This just reminds me of Rocky horror picture show.
What happens if a Reigar Esthetic crash lands in a Domain of Dread?....
@@AJPickett I'm not sure the dark powers could hold the Reigar for long.
Omg coffee and jammer
A video specifically on the lakshu would be an incredible boon, I'm currently trying to write one up as a character. bc i don't have the spelljamer knowledge, it's kinda a lost memory character
This spell jammer stuff is super neat
The intermittent musical tones in the background add much to this video!
I’m begging you AJ please do a vid on Ragnora
Hmmm its been a while since I covered an Elder Evil.
We can discuss what happens if Ragnora crashes into Atropos
For more context for the inspiration for the Reigar and the Lakshu, check out the anime "Legend of Heavenly Sphere Shurato". I believe that both are characters in said anime, along with the inspiration for the shakti.
Side note - anime is unfortunately the source/inspiration for a lot of SJ's more over-the-top entries in the Monstrous Compendium sheets.
Aside from that, video is fairly informative and well-done.
Yep, gonna geek out on that now. Thanks for the info. I had a lot of fun with the Bionoid Guyver elves back in the day.
No problem. I came across that bit of info quite by accident, really. Found the wiki entry for the anime, and was like "wait a minute..." ;)
*shakes fist at ocean* ANIMEEEEE!
@@AJPickett Anime is fine as an inspiration, but copying material whole-cloth, including names (Lakshu, Reiga) is just begging for trouble ;)
BTW, if you ever tackle the bio-weapons of the First Unhuman War (Bionoid, Spirit Warrior, Witchlight Marauders), just know that bionoids are from The Guyver (including even the egg and ability to take over a body if the eye-gem touches flesh!), and the Spirit Warriors are from Aura Battler Dumbine.

I remembered the Reigar when you posted the black and white monster compendium pic. My thought, oh the cute ones!
All the Spell Jammer videos please! I am collecting ideas for a campaign where my players are the crew for "Realms Express"
Great. A That Guy race. Hmmm..."Protection against magical and physical harm."
No mention of psionics. Operation Mindcrime, anyone?
Reigar Aberrant Mind Sorcerer?
I kinda hope you do a lore video on the Deity known as Mask.
Noted.
Love your content AJ! (I am a budding DM)
So what do Sune think about thease? Ok, they seem evil with those feeding habits.
The Esthetics don't feed themselves, the are self sustaining. They convert nutrients to other substances....
Yay!
One of these guys would make a good bardificer.
The picture you have for them in the video title reminds me of David Bowie
Please do a video on the Aperusa Spell Jammer race.
Space humans.
I’m so happy this is up, AJ. I’ve loved the concept of the reigar since discovering them in the Lord of Chaos destiny in 4e (prompting one of my first Spelljammer/Dragon mag deep dives).
I’m finally running a reigar (order of scribes wizard) in a spelljammer campaign; it’s soooooo damn fun. :)
Xixchil next please!!!!
Exactly, I was just trolling the comments to see if I needed to ask. Thank you!
Great video
Lord Boros?
4:33 I'd say more jellyfish, at least that one.
Reigar remind me vaguely of the Zarn in the Land of the Lost series. Except the Zarn are a purely scientific species, rather than an artistic species.
That's... A stretch. Although I will agree, never trust a Reigar in a toga.
@@AJPickett Zarn do not wear togas. They are alien beings that are made out of lights and patterns and energy. Altrussians however, do wear togas. th-cam.com/video/ICC0hJlZDYw/w-d-xo.html
Regarding the bit about the first helm created by the Reigar - it seems you referenced my "Ecology of the Spelljammer Helm" and the "One True Helm" article I wrote many moons ago. :D Its not truly canon, but I think people consider it such :D
www.spelljammer.org/ships/helms/EcologyOfTheHelm.html
Frankly, there should be an answer, so, yours will do until they come up with something more official.
@@AJPickett I have no problem with it being mysterious and left up to the DM. The Ecology of the Spelljamming Helm/One True Helm is a wild idea I had back ~2000 while reading the description of the Reigar and thinking "I wonder what happened to the First Helm?" It snowballed from there. I do love the characterization of the "Helm-Maker", evocative, and with just a slight amount of misinformation (the One True Helm manipulates the Arcane, not the other way around, at least in the article; YMMV), just the way the One True Helm likes it!
