I think we're scared of the smaller animals more because they tend to breed a lot and can get into our houses easier.
It's easier to spot and keep a bear out of the house than a spider. Don't even know how it got in there but it's there now.
Fun fact: Leeches are still sometimes used in surgeries to this day because when they're attatched to someone they prevent that person's blood from clotting.

This gave me an idea for a story
Imagine a Highschool setting with animals. Cat girls, dog girls, bunny girls who are all cute and popular.
And then you have these characters, who despite freaking people out with their bizarre appearance, are very nice and find comfort in each others company
And you can have them in a club like the creepy club or something to make sure that theres a place for everyone

As an arachnaphobe, I usually like spider characters and aestetic, I think it's super cute! But when you started adding fur on the legs in the sketch I got a chill and had to look away, anyways, it turned out adorable and I think you did a great job

Vampire bats really are super misunderstood creatures. I had a nature documentary DVD as a kid which covered vampire bats among many other things. Their little ground walk is pretty cute in my opinion at least

I actually learned just about a year ago that bats don’t actually have that bad of eye sight. They just don’t have as good color vision or sharpness as us, but they’re super sensitive and see better when it’s dark (or even pitch black).
Their eyes are just super small so using echolocation covers a much wider range when scouting for predators or prey.

-leech girl is moderately anemic. Is also very kissy.
-piranha girl has a buttload of younger siblings, and when they're together they can clear buffet tables in moments.
-tarantula girl has a toad godfather who she loves to hang out with. Is also considering taking up crocheting.
-bat girl is a book worm, and has a very sensitive stomach, hence eating mostly liquid. Is dating leech girl, and is maybe, possibly a bit of a yandere.
-everyone except leech girl, at first, can speak spanish (because all of the animals can be found in central and South America, and she looks like a species of European leech) and this is discovered when spider is berating piranha for biting someone and slips into Spanish, which bat subconsciously follows, leading to piranha talking back, and leech just standing there mystified. Leech can speak Italian and some German though.

I think the best part about this is that you didn’t erase their most unattractive but iconic features so they’d be conventionally cute-it makes the designs look more unique, and they work really well!
Honestly I think that the mismatch between the more " monstrous" attributes and the very attractive cute girl bodies makes them super interesting and,dare I say it, even cuter.

As a person who is terrified of all spiders, big or small, the tarantula girl is adorable

Well technically catgirls are girls not cats.
First one: leeches actually still have medical use to this day! One of their most common uses actually go toward reconstructive and plastic surgery. Often times they're used in breast reductions because their saliva prevents blood from clotting, and it can keep the nipples and aerolas alive. They're pretty cool!
As someone who is planning to have a breast reduction soon, this is intresting to hear... 💩

I liked the color palette on the piranha girl, the way the colors blend really captured how they look irl, especially the inclusion of the little shiny scales that I find really make the irl red belly piranha a absolutely beautiful little fish.
I love the spider girl in this video.
Now I really wish this was officially the visual design of an actual Yokai spider.

If you happen to make a part two my biggest fear is ticks, the insect. On another note, the animal girls were super cute and effective in the animal, sometimes you can't tell what animal they're supposed to be.

the bigger the bats eyes, the better their eye sight. for example, flying foxes have huge eyes and smaller ears which shows they need vision rather than hearing to hunt for food. which is fruit in the day time. where as cave bats have, comparatively, huge ears and tiny eyes. that means they need to hear their insect food in the dark rather than see it. cool how just looking at animals can tell you all about their diet and lifestyle

I love the leech girl so much! But, one thing. I’m studying to be a zoologist and I hate to be a stickler for details but leeches don’t have multiple teeth. They have three in the shape of the letter “y”. The one with multiple teeth are lampreys. Also, fun fact: leeches have the most brains of any other animal! They have 32 brains! One for each segment of their bodies.
My favorite animals are bats, so the vampire bat girl is my favorite of your drawings. I would love to have both of them feed on my blood.

Okay but vampire bats loping around on the ground is actually adorable. We have a vampire bat enclosure at our local zoo and they get fed little cups of blood. I've spent more time than I care to admit watching the tiny lil buggers hopping around. They're so tiny and fuzzy and cute lol
I love vampire bats, I always have, and in kindergarten I drew them a lot. My teacher always asked "Aren't you scared of them?" and I would just reply with no, and explain for at least 10 minutes of just facts about them. I had SO MANY FACTS, that people in 5th grade didn't know.

I have severe Acrachophobia, but I'm actually pretty fond of humanoid-spider characters. I adore the many eyes/legs.
"Creepy" characters have a special appeal to them. I love making visually-disturbing OCs and then adding wholesome qualities to them, like a hobby or personality trait. (It completely removes the "creepy" bit for me, for whatever reason, but I don't mind and quite like the little somewhat cliche twist.)

They live on steep dunes to ensure they can escape from predators by rolling down on their sides, somewhat like cartwheeling.

I think these designs are closer to monster girls than catgirls, but they're still great!
Here’s the difference for those who don't know. Catgirls are usually humans with slight cat features like ears or tails. Meanwhile, monster girls are less humanoid. Their designs are more tied to being monstrous rather than being humans with secondary monstrous features (sort of like having accessories)
Of course, there’s no rigid definition, but this is the general consensus as far as I know

leeches are still used for medical treatment, mainly bad bruises where there’s just blood pockets. but those leeches where grown in a lab for sanitary reasons✌️📀💿📀💚💛❤️
I was gonna say, medical leeches are still a thing! And the people back then weren’t completely wrong either, some people actually do have too much blood as a medical issue. My boyfriend has to get blood work done to make sure his hemoglobin isn’t too high, because if it is you can have strokes from all the blood being too thick and condensed. We actually had the option of getting medical leeches to take his excess blood since the medicine he’s on makes it so he can’t donate.
I've also heard that medical leeches can also get rid of localized infections by... y'know drinking it up
They also use leaches (if I remember correctly) to help increase blood flow in areas where there’s little blood flow.

I love the tarantula lady! I used to have many tarantulas and would use them for educational outreach. They have such distinct personalities and are so fascinating to watch. They tend to be a lot more lumbering and slow moving than what people think of for a spider, so they can be great for helping people get over phobias. Also they have fuzzy little puppy paws!

As someone who has a pet tarantula, i love the tarantula girl! Also i love the undertale music playing.
The tarantula girl was my favorite, I imaging that she would be a bit shy, and intimidating at first, but once you get to know her she's really nice.This is also coming from someone who's afraid of spiders.

At 12:05 actually bats have impeccable eyesight. They actually have better eyesight than humans. They just hunt at night with Echolocations because most animals are asleep at night and it be harder for them to see it.

I feel like they'd be a friend group or something, the tarantula girl is definitely the mom of the group, the piranha is the baby, the leech is the one everyone goes to for help/aka she's the smart one, and the vampire bat is the sweet quiet one who gives compliments all the time, and she loves books, especially fantasy. :>

Names:
Leech girl: Lee (pretty simple but it sounds cute and leans into her being a leech)
Piranha girl: Anah (I originally thought of Pia but I just think Anah first her more)
Tarantula girl: Arachne (she was a girl for Greek mythology who challenged a goddess to a weaving "fight" and got turned into a spider. It's where the name Arachnid comes from. (There is a lot more to the story than that I don't wanna write everything as it would make this comment way to long)
Bat girl: Bettie
Bettie and Lee going out for a blood slurpy! (Yeah these names fit well)

Idea: Leech girl and Bat girl fall in love they first meet while bat girl tries to steal some blood from the hospital where Leech girl is working
Leech girl catches her but rather than getting her in trouble they share a blood packet for meal.
On their first day they go to a fancy stake restaurant and order just blood.
And on Halloween they dress as a vampire couple bat girl being more on the traditional and old castle male presenting end while Leech girl dresses as a more modern alt vampire
