That's awesome... congratulations on the buck, what did you get? I'm glad the video helped. Good luck in the future.

@@medlensoutdoors it wasn’t my buck lol. It was my uncles whitetail and I kept it because it had a color mixture of black, gray, brown and white so it’s really unique so I wanted to keep it

@@medlensoutdoorshey, so I’ve been drying the tail out for a bit less than 2 weeks so when do I know that the tail is fully dried out?

So i do it till I'm not really pulling moisture with the salt anymore, i scrape the tail again to get extra salt off then let it finish drying on its own. By this time you shouldn't get any curl in the skin either.

@@medlensoutdoors okay, I’ve noticed a slight curl simply because of where I had it so just keep salt on it and then let it dry on its own with something covering it or no?

Pretty cool break down man. Do u have to do the same with squirrel tails if you send them to Mepps for spinner baits?

I use a scalpel n light hand works well. I salt the hell outta it and usually dries in 3 days. After it gets hard I take small brick or sandpaper n work the skin side a bit to make it playable. The kids love when I make keychains out of it. Good work bud, I like the video

@@autimo516 thank you for watching and the compliment, i will try your way next time with the brick n and sand paper. I tried a scalpel once don't remember why i don't use it anymore.

Next time try out a hook blade for a razor knife it makes split in the tail so much easier and it's safer

Thanks for that. I normally have a very sharp knife and have no issues just couldn't find it that day.
