I like that if the patient is not trusting them with Shaun's participation in the surgery, they ask the patient to consider another hospital. (2nd time I'm seeing this.) That kind of support and vote of confidence sure means a lot.❤
I don't know the social environment in ORs, but I do know about small talk when flying airplanes. We have this thing called "Sterile Cockpit" in which we refrain from talking about anything that isn't relevant to flying the airplane. Sterile Cockpit is most commonly implemented during taxi, takeoff, approach, and landing as those are the most critical phases of flight. It can also be implemented at any other phase of flight when increased focus is implemented. Again, I'm not familiar with the policies regarding small talk in the OR in real life, but if it's anything like in this clip, it seems like small talk could distract the surgical team and could possibly lead to a likely life-threatening mistake.
I've read it depends on the doctors, some focus on just the surgery others make casual conversation while others are a mix of the two. But they only chat during the less delicate parts of the surgery. For instance the first incision they may be chatting it up. But say they have a tumor on the spine and are cutting the tumor from some very important nerves in the spinal cord would be their "Sterile cockpit moment."
*If you'd watch the episode from the start then you'd know why..... We all know Shawn is a very excellent surgeon but sometimes there are some sentimental issues, some things, straight up facts, that he can't stop himself from saying directly to the patient, which depends on whether that patient is mentally strong or not, for em to be able to bear some strong bad news regarding their health and what's going to happen to them when performing the surgery. Like, some people aren't that much mentally strong, so whenever you have to deliver them a very bad news regarding their medical condition, they expect to receive it all nicely and inna slow pace, so that they don't freak out like crazy and collapse into tears and fear. But Dr Shawn Murphy here, due to his mental disorder, he doesn't do very well in communication and stuffs, he isn't the appropriate person to go talk to somebody, especially talk them about their health condition and to give em the bad news bout it. Shawn even had multiple altercations, lots of time he showed em all that he can't be trusted with communicating with patients whom he has as his case to work on. In the past episodes, he was faced to a few instances where he messed up communicating with em patients, he just literally gave em a mental breakdown lol, cuz of how he just can't stop himself from delivering straight up bad news to em, which some patients even made complaints about him and that was then the reason why they even changed his work department, they didn't want him to be a surgical resident because of this one main mental medical issue that he has and can't do nothing to change it for the better. This was even one of the main highlights of several episodes where Shawn just broke up crying, he was so devastated that they wanted him out of the surgical residency, to change his department to the Pathology one. Which at first he didn't agree at all and when being forced to go there and having no options, he forced himself into it but then realized that he just couldn't find peace there. Cuz he has a love and passion of everything related to being a surgeon, he has this gift for this particular career field and when going to voice out his concern bout it and that he wouldn't at all work in the Pathology section, the guy in charge just had no choice but to ask him to leave the job, like to quit working there and go continue being a resident and pursue his surgical career in another hospital but not there. They even arranged for an interview for him, to go settle down elsewhere for his career and there was a whole lotta drama about this, it went on multiple episodes just on this matter.. So like I said before, you'd have to go watch all of the episodes regarding this particular drama here, just so that you'd know why despite Shawn being one if not thee best ever surgeon to handle a case, some patients, like this one here in this vid, or the management itself, wanted him off the case and no longer perform his services on it.. 🤗 You'd have to actually thank me for I'm a lil bit high right now so I actually immersed myself into finding the time and energy to explain you all about this here lmfao. I just saved you the time into going to watch all of the episodes regarding this matter lol..* 😅
to be honest in some instances it seems people cater to him, why? i wish would accept more people like these, it's a super power. let's find ways to help them help us. not to use them but help them. they wanna live on a farm and read books, fine. they wanna perform surgery, i'd trust them.

It is part of the plot. They talk in the OR to provide exposition and character insight.
Im sure, that's what's happens but wouldn't be a good script.
So true

The main actor is so talented❤❤
He is. They all are. Nurse Hawks is very conversational in her delivery. She makes the character real.

Best movie production
This isn't a movie. It's a series tv show. Movies don't have episodes or seasons.
Why was is only the wome
n nurses
Dr Murphy was teaching the nurses on surgical procedures, since the hospital is a teaching one. This was Shaun's first time teaching nurses. 😊
This guy sure is annoying.
