Dear mother can you hear me whining? It's been three whole weeks Since that, I've left your home This sudden fear has left me tremblin' 'Cause now it seems that I am, out there on my own And I'm feeling so alone… Pay attention to the cracked streets And the broken homes Some call it slums, some call it nice I want to take you through A wasteland I like to call my home Welcome to paradise A gunshot rings out at the station Another urchin snaps and left dead on his own It makes me wonder why I'm still here For some strange reason it's now Feeling like my home And I'm never gonna go Dear mother, can you hear me laughing? It's been six whole months since that I have left your home It makes me wonder why I'm still here For some strange reason it's now Feeling like my home And I'm never gonna go
@@danieldoherty2338 Between Minute 3:05 and 3:10. I hear something that sounds like a timing error or is this a blend of takes do you think? Maybe something else, like changing his articulation? What do you think
@@chrisp3621 The drums on Dookie are heavily edited, the best takes stitched together....little known fact but if you search for the interview with the original engineer on Soundonsound he gives the game away, and also dispells the myth that Billie sang the whole album in one take. That said, I don't hear any timing error, I hear a bit of flair, human timing....something sadly missing in todays grid aligned quantized music...
Amazing how much toms are ringing in this, I would usually gate that out, but I've never noticed this on the record (the wall of guitars must suck it up)
***** I'm not sure if you've ever played drums but there's so much going on there. A snare to floor tom roll, with a single 16th note on the bell. I mean I know you killed it in your drum cover on youtube of it! Oh wait...
I'm not a drummer, but yes, I also play drums. And that movement is not a big deal. Sadly I don't have drums so I can shut your mouth up. Anyway, if you want to listen to my covers go to VGPCCOVERS channel on youtube.
It's easy the bass plays 20 measures of the same line and the first 4 are bass only next 4 are drums and bass, and the last 12 are with the bass drums and guitar.
Could you make more "only drum" green day videos? I sing in a different key than billie joe, so when I only have the drums I can play the guitar in a different key as well.
+CreatureQuake When I play guitar over only drums, I can change the key (pitch) to match my vocal range. In the case of burnout, I would record it in A, which is 3 semitones higher than the original, which is in F#. The song is the same, it is just that the pitch is higher or lower (without sounding like alvin and the chipmunks :P)
saberwing no i understand how transposing works. i'm not an idiot i've played in many, many bands. but what i meant was, is your voice higher or lower than his?
They only played back vocals on headset so he could get a feel of the drum rhythm. So they recorded vocals first thing. Then after the drums the guitar and bass.
but you can hear the guitar and bass bleed through which means he had the guitar and bass in his headphones : / i think they may have recorded this live as a band in isolation booths
@@mathien1985 What I think they did was they played all the songs together, but they recorded the different parts separately. Makes the song feel more natural.
I’m pretty sure the Dookie production team confirmed that they started out by tracking everything live including scratch vocals, kept the drums, but went back and re-recorded the bass, guitar (and added more guitar overdubs) and did vocals.
I just remembered how talented Tré Cool is, he's so amazing
You could say he is… trés cool :)
I enjoyed listening to this by itself. The power of Green Day.
Yes my guy
2:40 the ride bell part always gets me it’s so good
it's so relaxing hearing the drums lonely in my opinion

It's been three whole weeks
Since that, I've left your home
This sudden fear has left me tremblin'
'Cause now it seems that I am, out there on my own
And I'm feeling so alone…
Pay attention to the cracked streets
And the broken homes
Some call it slums, some call it nice
I want to take you through
A wasteland I like to call my home
Welcome to paradise
A gunshot rings out at the station
Another urchin snaps and left dead on his own
It makes me wonder why I'm still here
For some strange reason it's now
Feeling like my home
And I'm never gonna go
Dear mother, can you hear me laughing?
It's been six whole months since that
I have left your home
It makes me wonder why I'm still here
For some strange reason it's now
Feeling like my home
And I'm never gonna go
Wish I could get my snare to POP like Tre's in this recording..
Its analog compression
and you gotta gate the drums

@@chrisp3621 It would be a lot more pronounced if he actually punched in. I think he may have just rushed that a little bit.

it takes great talent for this
Amazing how much toms are ringing in this, I would usually gate that out, but I've never noticed this on the record (the wall of guitars must suck it up)
The solo is the best part honestly when he adds the ride bell it’s just so good
that fill he does on 2:44 and 2:47 fills me with adrenaline and energy every time i listen to it
And every time when i play it!❤
That tom ride thing in the bridge is fucking impossible.
No, it isn't.

Actually its pretty easy man, the whole thing is very linear... you just have to get used with the moviment, after that is just training!
Mate I'm 14 and it took me 15 mins to learn, you just have to analyse it and start off slow
anybody else sitting there with their guitar rockin the fk out?.....and then trying to time coming back in after the bass part....and nailing it
It's easy the bass plays 20 measures of the same line and the first 4 are bass only next 4 are drums and bass, and the last 12 are with the bass drums and guitar.
Tre Coll great drum

2:39 Tre's trademark .

When I come around drums
When I come around drums

why not sing in the same key ? :p
***** Because my vocal range is different than billie joe's.

Fuck, Tre Cool is a fucking machine on the drums
Trying to learn this song on drums
I agree man.

The vocals for Dookie were all recorded after the tracks were laid down
Most likely played live with the drums isolated in a room for recording, then recorded the instruments/vocals separately on top of that.
I’m pretty sure the Dookie production team confirmed that they started out by tracking everything live including scratch vocals, kept the drums, but went back and re-recorded the bass, guitar (and added more guitar overdubs) and did vocals.
Do you have a drum track for J.A.R.? It would help me a lot!
Me too man!
THANK YOU! :D
@13ctf666 right around the 185BPM mark...give or take

Tre Cool trumps Travis Barker. There I said it.
