I bought this recently, with the expectation that it would be a fun light puzzle and I wasn't disappointed. My wife and I love this game! For us it is a pleasant evening game that we pull out when we don't want to think too hard but want to switch our brains off from the day and get lost in the costal vibe of this game. I don't see this game leaving my collection for a long time, despite the variability being low compared to other games, I have loved and will likely continue to love the space this fills in my collection
They got blasted with Space Base for their storage solution and that being overpriced/money grab. The game is prime for expansions and once they come out I believe you're going to be happy with the current size of the box.
Great overview too! My wife likes the art because she loves the beach, though neither of us have ever been to Santa Monica. After we play it a bit more, not sure how long it will stay in the collection. The box could have been much smaller too...
This game looks great! The theme really appeals to me as my wife and I got to visit LA just 2 years ago and loved the piers and walking along the beach for hours just finding fun little shops and restaurants. I will have to get a copy.
The charming art and gameplay has tempted me in the past - but I’m not sure that it stands out enough from other similar looking card games that come in smaller packages and without a big box price tag. Your comments have confirmed this!
Great review. I love the art in this game and love the beach. I have no connection to Santa Monica. I love the simple nature and mechanics of this game. My biggest problem is it is how much it seems to drag out trying to get to 14 cards to trigger the end of the game, especially with 4 players. Beautiful, simple game that seems to need a shorter, tighter cut-off time.
I completely agree with your take on the game. Except, I used to live in Santa Monica, so I have that extra little tie to the game that will keep it in my collection for sentimental reasons. 😁
Dude your voice needs a break! I hope your Saturday allows you some rest. I was curious about this game because I've heard good things & live about 30 miles away from Santa Monica.

100% agreed with that. For myself there are other games that fill that void.
I really like Santa Monica but I really wish they had done a more appropriate box size.

Yeah, the box size is quite obviously a point of criticism.

Enjoy it :) It's solid...just didn't resonate with me in the end.

Have you tried the Long Weekend mini expansion?

Can you recall the game that you were trying to compare the daisy chaining combos to?
Yes! Nova Luna :)
This game looks great. Do you would like this over Lost expeditions?
Yes I would, but I didn't love Lost Expeditions either.
@@BoardGameCo thanks!

My voice is finally fully better now :)
@@forrestdunton2451 I do plan to give it a try. Hoping to try before I buy.
Do you prefer Nova Luna?
Yes!
Your poor voice my guy! Feel better soon. Thank you for the content.
Thanks :) I'm getting there :)
Very similar to Penny Lane.
Oooh, interesting. Need to check that one out.
