The lasy one was PROFESSIONAL. and she sent me a chart and says i have moderate sensorneural loss and i could very much be qualified for hearong aids. I dont wskt any hearing aids that aint outside the ear. I cant stand anything bring in my ear that i dont feel on the outside of it.
These videos are life savers. I'll be a first time hearing aid wearer at 73 yrs young when I get fitted next week. So excited to hear TV once again and not the muffled words. I specifically asked my provider if they did Real Ear Measurement and he assured me that they do. I went in with a list of situations I wanted to hear in and questions I needed answered from watching your instructional videos. He was impressed that I came in prepared and he answered all of them. I refuse to be a statistic for purchasing aids and then tossing into a drawer when they don't seem to do what I think they should. There will be return trips for adjustments until it's right if necessary. Thank you so much for caring so passionately about hearing and sharing your knowledge to the general public. Since I live in the Phoenix area, you can bet your boots I'll be making an appointment with you if I don't get full satisfaction. LOL
Watching Dr Cliff's videos have done more to educate me than all the brochures and websites and other audiologists, including mine. TH-cam gives time to listen, which the local Aud.Dr does not have. Their time is money and would have to be charged. Thx Dr. Cliff!
Getting my first pair this week and ordered bright red Resounds. Thought I may as well embrace it and when I update my next pair of glasses I'll get the frames to match. Getting old sucks but you may as well have fun with it.
I am getting the brightest color, in case I drop them somewhere that I can see them and they won’t be camouflaged. The brightest color Jabras have is Bronze.
Love your perspective! Everyone who tries to encourage me to get HAs, tells me “ oh, they’re so small, no one will know you’re wearing HAs! “ I don’t freaking care about what people think about hearing aids! I just want to hear! 😂 I may get red ones, too!

Must admit that I can go a while without wearing them and when I do, it's amazingly loud which I can adjust through the app. They are great but I actually enjoy the muted sounds upon taking them out, except for the constant tinnitus, oh well. Have fun, make the most of it. I'm embracing being an old lady, we can get away with so much, ha, ha.
This Cr. Cliff video presentation along with his Real Ear Measurement is the most fundamental to successful usage of our HA. And still the subjectivity of HA wearing along with appropriate knowledge and right expectations keep many HA wearers of taking a full advantage of wearing HA in all particular environments. HA iPhone apps like one of the most advanced Resound app is still not addressed by audiologists in assisting patients in their own capabilities to improve preset programs and HA usage? Maybe Dr. Cliff will address this important issue.
I'm knew to hearing aids and I havent received mine yet. I go get them on Thursday. I was worried about a lot of things, but this video has helped calm my nerves so much. I think I am now knowledgeable enough to go into this appointment and know what to expect. Thank you so much.

Please see my response to Duncan, regarding custom molds. Dr Olson really gets how much better these are...they fit better...they eliminate squealing feedback...makes all the difference in the world. You MUST get follow up fittings and adjustments, from your audiologist, as Dr Olson states...he’s so right. Trust me..I’m a retired speech pathologist, with training in Audiology. I’m very HOH...I have mixed hearing loss in one ear and sensorineural hearing loss in the other other ear...had to retire because I’ve become so impaired.

My audiologist programmed my aids to slowly increase over the course of a month. I had hearing aids about nine years ago and could not get used to the loud noises. I had moved and could not find anyone to service my phonex hearing aids so I just stopped using them.
I just had my Costco fitting appointment three days ago. I believe they followed all the steps except the subjective questionnaire. So far I haven't noticed any new sounds but lots of amplified annoying sounds.
I have just found you Dr. Cliff and I am learning so very much. I have worn HAs since 2004 and had about 4 different brands Presently, I have Signia Pure 13BT which I'm pretty happy with. My problem is that I do not think my AuD is fitting me to my fullest potential for me or what my HAs are capable of. I'm frustrated. I'm writing notes and will be discussing some things that I have learned from you videos with her this coming week. Thanks for all the videos - You are fantastic.
9-2-2024, yes I had real ear measure in Melbourne Australia, at Altona North shopping centre at Connect Hearing, - wait for it, 2 hours after seeing this video- yes how, up to update am I- ha ha,
Expect 1. High Pressure Sales Tactics. Like a Car Dealer. 2. Ripoff Financing it will be 0% if you pay in 18 months. If your late 29% for the duration. 3. They make you pay the full amount, then say if your insurance pays anything, we will give you the money. They hope you forget so they keep it. 4. They make you sign a $500.00 Deductible. Contract if any thing should go wrong for each Hearing Aid. 5. The rechargeable battery starts to degrade after 2 years. Run time goes down. Is this worth it?? You can DIY just make sure you are using FDA approved aids.
I had mastoid operation in 1965 if my left ear blocked it sounds like a tunnel I recently saw audiologist who recreminded ric in left said it would help my right ear considering that over years my brain trained left to help pick sounds on my right side. though some are impossible to know direction or hear every word

Domes are used for those with mild to mild-moderate hearing loss. Generally the low frequencies (250-1kHz) are looked at and if they're below around 25-30dB, we would start considering custom moulds. This is to ensure less sounds escape as the mould has a snugger fit than a dome. Also if you require amplification above a certain amount, the sound is more likely to leak out of the ear canal and this is picked up by the microphone of the hearing aid causing a feedback loop which can cause your hearing aid to whistle. Hope this has helped!

I'm needing help, I am using the Widex Moment 400, my tinnitus is in my left ear, and I noticed that the hearing aids is making my tinnitus worse. I'm really liking being a new subscriber to your channel. At 68, I had my first hearing evaluation (exam) yesterday through Miracle Ear. My hearing Has gotten pretty bad. I'm going back in-to the Miracle Ear facility today to perhaps order a set for $3,500 (ME3). These aren't even the top of the line. Now I've been watching your videos and I'm discovering that there's so much to learn/know about purchasing hearing aids. I Really don't know what I should be doing. I guess I'm hoping for a little intervention here, but it's probably too late. Do you have a video showing the steps one should take in selecting their first hearing aids? Pricing? Would Miracle Ear be able to give me a prescription which would allow me to purchase my Hearing Aids at some other location? Am I locked in-to Miracle Ear. Don't get me wrong; I liked the facility and individual who tested me. It's just that this is all so new to me. It's not like buying glasses. Or is it? Thanks.

Is it possible to hear some people better than others? My hearing loss seems to me to be tones in certain peoples voices. Also, Those that are soft spoken I really struggle to hear.
Here’s what you can expect for sure, a much lighter wallet and pocketbook. This is kind of like buying a new car, expect the fleecing and of course a smile.
Dr Cliff... does the measurement relate to each specific hearing aid brand and model or to the patient’s hearing loss. In other words, if after making the measurement, your patient decides for example to purchase the exactly same hearing aid in another color, would you make another test?
For a color change no. However, if the model changes at all, even for battery size, and the programming can't be directly uploaded, the measures need to be completed again.
So I just got diagnosed with CAPD and I’ve been recommend hearing aids and I was wondering if I absolutely have to get the premium hearing aids? I can afford the advanced ones but I have an active lifestyle and my doc is really pushing for me to have the premium but that’s an extra 1300 and I wanted to know if you think it actually makes a diff on CAPD with no hearing loss?
So about these questionnaires, would it behoove to ask the audiologist over the phone if he/she is familiar with these forms before even setting foot in their office? Or are these forms an accepted protocol for all audiologists?

What are the best sounding hearing aids? Like tone? I'm just about to trial the Oticon OPN 1 and my biggest concern is tone and sound quality. Seems like this industry is going for smallest size and not tone. I really don't care what they look like. Love the videos by the way! I am 36 years and was diagnosed with Otosclerosis in October. I used to be an audio engineer and musician so you can imagine the challenges I'm facing. Your videos have been very informative for me. Will custom moulds be better for tone and low end? Hi Duncan. Thanks for the question and for watching the videos. Nearly all hearing aids are limited in the high frequencies. Realistically, depending on your level of hearing loss, there will be limited amplification benefits above 6 kHz. The Oticon OPN is no different in this regard. That doesn't mean that you wouldn't receive substantial benefit from a traditional hearing aid, even if it is a smaller device. As far as the use of Custom Ear Molds, they let the audiologist control the amount of sound that is retained in the ear better. By manipulating vent size, we can better control low-frequency amplification and prevent feedback issues from high-frequency amplification. Low-frequency amplification tends to leak out of a large vent without giving the hearing aid user a perception of low-frequency sound. For most hearing aid fittings, generic domes are adequate, but the best sound quality usually comes from a custom ear mold.
Doctor Cliff, AuD Dr Olson is spot on, with respect to the custom molds. Ever since I was diagnosed with otosclerosis, on top of sensorineural loss (right ear), those custom molds have been life-savers! What a difference they make...more comfortable...helps to pick up low frequency speech sounds (I was missing so many of these, ever since the mixed hearing loss in the right ear....sensorineural and conductive, because of the otosclerosis. I am a retired speech pathologist, with training in Audiology...so, I know from whence i speak. My Audiologist took impressions with putty and then made those custom molds for me. No more squealing feedback...such a difference. I strongly advise you to get custom molds.
You lost me in the vent size section. You say you "need to have the exact right vent size to give you all the benefits of the amplification, but none of the negatives of the occlusion effect." You're implying occlusion increases amplitude (which it will) and that that's a good thing (which I doubt). Why create aural canal reverberation, especially if the hearing aid has sufficient gain without doing so?

I had never heard of REM until I saw your video. Maybe they were done, but I wasn't told what was going on.
REM is the #1 question that should be asked before purchasing hearing aids from anyone.

No one can diagnose you over the internet. You need to start by seeing an ENT doctor to find out what's going on.

I can afford the advanced ones but I have an active lifestyle and my doc is really pushing for me to have the premium but that’s an extra 1300 and I wanted to know if you think it actually makes a diff on CAPD with no hearing loss?
My experience is the technician is there to sell the product not to make sure it works 360.

So about these questionnaires, would it behoove to ask the audiologist over the phone if he/she is familiar with these forms before even setting foot in their office? Or are these forms an accepted protocol for all audiologists?
All of these questionnaires are standard in Audiology. Whether clinics use them or not, it up to them.

Hi Bob. The more you know the better, Best Practices included. That being said, I'm developing a Network of providers who follow best practices so all you will have to do is go to one of them.

What are the best sounding hearing aids? Like tone? I'm just about to trial the Oticon OPN 1 and my biggest concern is tone and sound quality. Seems like this industry is going for smallest size and not tone. I really don't care what they look like. Love the videos by the way! I am 36 years and was diagnosed with Otosclerosis in October. I used to be an audio engineer and musician so you can imagine the challenges I'm facing. Your videos have been very informative for me. Will custom moulds be better for tone and low end? Hi Duncan. Thanks for the question and for watching the videos. Nearly all hearing aids are limited in the high frequencies. Realistically, depending on your level of hearing loss, there will be limited amplification benefits above 6 kHz. The Oticon OPN is no different in this regard. That doesn't mean that you wouldn't receive substantial benefit from a traditional hearing aid, even if it is a smaller device. As far as the use of Custom Ear Molds, they let the audiologist control the amount of sound that is retained in the ear better. By manipulating vent size, we can better control low-frequency amplification and prevent feedback issues from high-frequency amplification. Low-frequency amplification tends to leak out of a large vent without giving the hearing aid user a perception of low-frequency sound. For most hearing aid fittings, generic domes are adequate, but the best sound quality usually comes from a custom ear mold.
Doctor Cliff, AuD Dr Olson is spot on, with respect to the custom molds. Ever since I was diagnosed with otosclerosis, on top of sensorineural loss (right ear), those custom molds have been life-savers! What a difference they make...more comfortable...helps to pick up low frequency speech sounds (I was missing so many of these, ever since the mixed hearing loss in the right ear....sensorineural and conductive, because of the otosclerosis. I am a retired speech pathologist, with training in Audiology...so, I know from whence i speak. My Audiologist took impressions with putty and then made those custom molds for me. No more squealing feedback...such a difference. I strongly advise you to get custom molds.

What is the difference between molds & domes used for your hearing? Does it make a difference in your hearing? How do I know what is right for me?
You lost me in the vent size section. You say you "need to have the exact right vent size to give you all the benefits of the amplification, but none of the negatives of the occlusion effect." You're implying occlusion increases amplitude (which it will) and that that's a good thing (which I doubt). Why create aural canal reverberation, especially if the hearing aid has sufficient gain without doing so?
