I feel kind of bad for those that don't live near a race track. Last time I bought 100% pure methanol at the track it was $2.70 a gallon. I mix it by volume with distilled water for my Snow Perf. system.
Alan Dallas Omg, I live in germany , and i need some for my antique catalitic lighter, and the only way to get it is by buying 1 oz bottles of camera lense claeners for 25 bucks, and then its not even pure.I would pay like 2500$ for a gallon 😭

Ive been running meth injection since 2003. Like to add that if you get you methanol from a race fuel supplier to make sure they use a separate pump for the meth since using one pump for all fuels contaminates the meth and will take out the santoprene seal in the pump head. Had a supplier that was using one pump for all and blew a head gasket from the pump leaking and not putting out like it should.
Rc car shops and local speed shops sell 100% methanol for reasonable prices too. Definitely worth checking out. Thank you for the info sir!
My Trailer towing capacity here in the mountains was limited to about 12,000 without methanol anything more than that was dangerously slow. With methanol I towed a 15,000lbs trailer easily. I should get better fuel economy as well as more power using methanol. The extra power will cause more wear and tear on the drive train but the water in the water/meth mix will cool the combustion chamber and the exhaust extending the life of the pistons, valves and turbo charger.

I work in the oil patch in the north and we use methanol to keep wells from freezing and it cost $2.14 per gallon here. Just need to get a system on both my diesel trucks.

Here at the Hospital we use several grades of Methanol. Histological grade is somewhere around $70 per gallon.
In your case, using 1 gallon in 25 miles, I'd up the point it cuts in to about 80% boost and install a bigger intercooler. No need to spray methanol for normal driving.

Point me toward that speed shop so I can buy from them. I found a local speed shop that routinely gives away the methanol that they have left over at the end of the season but they had already given it away. I shopped around and $269.50 was the best price I could find for a 55 gal barrel.

It actually works best with diesels because of the heat generated by compression ignition and how thoroughly the fuel air mixtures are burnt.

Rigged a system myself for an 89 7mgte from washer fluid res, used two of them one for meth injection and other for intercooler sprayer. Unsure of gains, because I upgraded near everything at the same time.

I understand that you get the extra power needed to do what you need to do, but is it cheaper to do the same job than not using the methanol? Can you still pull that trailer without the methanol? I guess I am asking about the efficiency. Is there more wear and tear without methanol? Thank you for the video.
I only use VP M1. I buy 15gal drums @$165 which adds up to $11/gal. Its 99.95% Methanol which is the highest % available in the US.

I know nothing about this injection stuff but recently purchased an F150 with and AEM Meth Injection kit already installed. Is there any dangers to running the meth tank dry? Or is it safe to run empty?
You can leave the tank empty with no worries.
i have the snow performance kit on my car, luckily i dont have to tow or drive long distance as it is a strip car. great product but it gets exspensive just driving a few days a week, wouldnt want to every day. great video thanks for the info. and btw the klean-strip denatured alcohol at hope depot is 50% meth and 50% ethanol 5 bucks a quart
I like canada where meth is not regulated really and easy to find. Any hardware store with paint department u can find 99.9 percent pure in gallon form. It is 10 bucks but in a car that last a while. Or u can buy 55 gallon drum for 250 if u got a place around who sells drums . or in winter u can stock up on -50c winsheild washer fluid which should be close to 50 percent. Never checked msds on that.
Make it yourself. You can heat wood or biomass and it will go thru pyrolysis and it’ll make some methanol that can be distilled out of tars. Burn the tars to heat your pyrolysis chamber. You then have chars when the thing stops producing the pyrolysis gas. Drop in water while the fire is still going but way hotter and it’ll do this: C + H2O -> H2 + CO. Then I think you need a catalyst for this but it does this: 2H2 + CO -> CH4O (AKA methanol). You’re left with carbon monoxide which can be used for cooking or anything but you need to make sure you burn it all up and I would keep it outside.

I was disenchanted of propane and CNG by the installation price, the limited range and the limit availability of fueling stations. If you are just after maximum horse power Propane would be great.
I use methanol for colored flames on my flamethrower, I just buy it from a local race fuel shop, 4 bucks a gallon, pure as the driven snow.
Thank You Mars1952, I was hearing a lot about using windshield washer. I'm not looking to increase HP by advancing timing anymore than it is.. Just need to avoid detonation and maintain HP
I'm currently looking for a cheap source of methanol for bio-diesel production and if I can figure out a reasonable way to get it. If I find a better way than what you have found I will let you know since this is the first video I watched when I started my search
Yeah I hear ya, the GearVendors OD is pretty pricey. Do they have CNG injection? Or would that even work? CNG is about half the price of propane.
I will be posting a video on the installation of the kit I used. I can't give it a recommendation without first explaining a few things. I used a Snow Performance Tow Max kit.
There are multiple manufacturers of supertech fluid, as well as different forumlas for different areas of the country. You also have to consider that some are listed by volume, some by weight. Today I picked up 6 gallons of supertech -20, and they all individually tested out to 41-42% by volume with a hydrometer. I have a chart that lists some of the manufacturers, and one says 27% for -20, and another says 36% for -20. I'm assuming that I got the 36% because 35%abw =40%abv, so that's right on
Spot weld A couple of Spiralmaxes in each exhaust tip and it should help you with your towing.
In the summertime you don't need the methanol. In WWII the reason for the methanol was because the water would freeze at high altitude. I'd be interested to see numbers on water alone.

Its not cheap to set up but i hear great things about propane injection for easy and heavy driveing for better mpg, and even more good about cng injection whats your take on these set ups?

FWIW, I use KleanStrip Denatured Alcohol($16gln), 60% methanol, 40% alcohol (msds) and mix it with around 60% purified water($2). I usually get about 2 1/2 glns of juice and dont have to have anything shipped or drive 60 miles round trip to the nearest track to buy straight methanol. Comes in a steel container so storage isnt a problem but i still dont buy any more than I can use in 2 or 3 weeks.
What kind of performance hit do you take by using the 30% mix? Could you just inject MORE...particularly in the summer when the evaporative cooling effect is important.

Well explained. Try going to the local Drag Strip. I run alky in my race car, I get it for $4.00 a gal. And it if fresh because so many of the racer's use it.

id like a gear vendors but the price is a little steep for me but for tires technely bigger tires give you higher gear ratio but kill your pulling and take off pending how big, i met a few guy with the big rig tire set up and had to change from a 4.10 to 4.56 or more to compensate for the way bigger tires, but your right on propane but propane and cng is still a little cheaper

What about isopropyl? What are the benifits and cost ratio if you might know? I'm only interested in higher mpg's.
I think that isopropyl alcohol has less BTUs per gallon and at $9.56/gal it is twice as expensive as methanol by the drum. I guess that you could buy WWF and bring it up to 50% alcohol by adding isopropyl alcohol but I do not know how well that would work.

I used tu run straight windshield washer concentrate in my alky gokart, people at track were buying racing fuel for $7.50 a gallon, I was spending under $4 and running faster laps ....go figure....dry gas worked just as well and dollar store sold the stuff cheap.
can you use isolpropal alcohal? i use it at my work. i buy 55 gallon drums of 99% alcohal. its 9.56 dollars a gallon is what it come to, counting the shipping cost. it mixes fine with water
You're a cool dude. If we lived in the same town I'd flow you some cash and we could share that methanol. This video made me decide to just mix my own rather that buying the juice or dealing with different WWF ratios.

I was looking for some methanol or denatured alcohol to wipe/clean my parents and our windshield wipers to hopefully restore their performance and I ended up buying a bottle of Heet thinking that it was a thin liquid. It was actually kinda thick like a pourable gel and I hesitated to use it because I wasn't sure what the gelling agent was and was afraid it might deposit something onto the wiper blades that might hurt their performance or damage them in some way but I went ahead and used it followed by rubbing alcohol to clean off the gel. I'm not sure if it helped because they haven't really encountered much rain since but Mom told me that Dads van needed new windshield wiper blades, that the right side wasn't wiping very well so I'm wondering if the Heet might have messed them up. Not sure but I'm still wondering what the gelling agent is in Heet, I bought some for a mini tin can stove project a few years back and I don't remember it being thick like that.
Methanol is generally pretty hard on rubber wiper blades. why you were using it to clean your parents I don't know LOL

Did you ever consider using a vacuum pump to suck out the air that gets into your 55 gal drum maybe that would help keep your methanol all meth and not water logged.

The off brands will not test all their batches when their making their products they will only test a random portions. So you might get a batch with less then advertised or more then advertised. This goes for all non consumable goods. It cost less to do random testing of baches then to test every single batch.

Yeah but then you have to buy the propane. You are simply supplementing some diesel in combustion with propane. If you're after fuel mileage go for good tuning, reduced weight, smaller tires, higher gears (or even a gear vendors overdrive), and a light right foot.
Peak WWF is about 30% methanol. If you add water to WWF you will lower the percent of methanol. To get Peak WWF up to about 50% methanol you will have to add four bottles of HEET. 128oz WWF plus 48oz HEET equals 176oz of approximately 50% water/50%methanol. You will end up with about one and a half gallons of liquid.

In a diesel you can add methanol up to the point that you use up all of the air as long as you cool with water, any extra meth goes to waste. You can add water until you quench the combustion. A 50/50 mix seems to be about right. I monitor my EGT and keep it under 1250F.
Newer diesel injection systems aren't totally compatible with WaterMeth. There's an engineering team in California that tested an L5P with 49% Methanol and it caused pre-detonation.
Still great for those older injection systems.
@@BigGroupHug Methanol actually prevents pre-detonation. Also, modern diesel engines have direct injection. The fuel is directly injected into the combustion chamber at the precise time when the piston is in the correct position. You would have to inject the fuel too early to get it to pre-detonation. More likely they injected so much methanol/water mix they partially hydro-locked or quenched the engine. Since a 49% methanol/51% water can not be ignited the methanol can not ignite until the diesel is injected.
Damn. About 280 bucks for a 55 gallon drum. Thats not bad for effectivly 110 gallons of water meth

trouble maker I think you need a federal license to distill alcohol. And it would still be more expensive.
For personal use you don't need a license. Just checked and it looks like VP fuel M1 sells for about $9 per gallon if you buy a drum.
That's actually not that bad to buy widow washer fluid. Those go on sale at many auto parts stores all the time. $5.50 vs $4.90 and having to mix it yourself isn't that bad.
The problem is that Peak is only 24% methanol. You have to add straight methanol to bring the mix up to 49% methanol/51% water.
mars1952 That may be the case for the peak brand 6 months after the bottles are filled, but every brand is different. 30% methanol autozone brand works great in my truck.

You can use any type of alcohol or a mix of types. The important thing is to keep the alcohol at less than 50% of the mix.

racing fuel suppliers you can get it by the gallon for cheap but you can find it for alot cheaper

All at the big gas stations. Annoying to get all the bottles, would be nice to have a port, and pump for them all.

I spent $600 for an AEM kit and couldn’t get it to work. It either squirted full blast (one gallon gone in 20 seconds) or not at all. The pump was noisy and pulsated instead of running smoothly. Complete junk.
ya im not sure if the exact price and im not to fond of injecting things besides diesel in my engine but ive heard if with cng injection geting 25+ mpg
