You'll get there. Practice makes perfect. I was 11 when it first came on but it's like a Fine Wine it gets better with time. What was so beautiful is that they spent 100 Years and Four Generations Kunta Kinte (aka Toby) His Wife Bell, His Daughter Kizzy, her Son Chicken George, His Son Tom Harvey in various parts of Virginia which not only is known for it's Tobacco but Hampton an All Black College. Annapolis is also the Home of The US Naval Academy which is next to West Point one of America's Top Military Colleges. The Actor who played Virgil was The Late Al Freeman who besides playing Malcolm X in Roots The Next Generations played Elijah Muhammad in "Malcolm X". He also was the First Black Actor to win a Daytime Emmy for his Work on The Former Soap Opera One Life To Live.
I been watching roots all day! I remember watching it in school, and my mother making us watch it as a teenager too... Still parts I saw today that I just didn't quite understand before... Alotta smiles, prayers, anger, and a few tears while I watched... #priceless
Have not watched the remake. Only parts of it.chicken George is light skin as he was biracial in the remake.but can't beat the original I did watch roots next generation last night.loved the roots and 2 since a child
I heard that family still does this at family reunions and when they come for holidays. They tell the children in the family about Kunta Kinte. They even do for each baby what Omoro and Kunta did by showing the baby the night sky.
The movie ends with them landing in HENNING TN, which is no more but it's really here, present day Knoxville TN, not specifically mentioned in the movie but it's in the book
Yeah it’s all the white people fault that Black people are still on welfare Black people gangbang and Black people don’t have intact families Black people don’t take care of all the free stuff they’re offered it’s all Whitey’s fault.
Love this ending, so much to endure because of sin, as blacks are the Hebrews that came out of Babylonian captivity in the book of Jeremiah but returned to idolatry and disobedience. So, two thousand years later God revisited his ppl with captivity again
Why King Leopold was worse and so were the Germans, British and the Debeers. They took pregnant African woman tied their arms to horse so rip them apart.
Roots is both fact and fiction. Mr. Haley never claimed every aspect of his book was true. He stated that Roots was based on his family's oral history. He also acknowledged that other sources were studied. Therefore, some aspects of his story are unverifiable and dramatized.
Dear God, if it was June 18th, that meant that Paul Mccartney & Isabella Rosselini are indirectly part of history since they were born in 1942 and 1952 respectivel.
He plagiarized some of the book, "Roots" from a book called "The African" by Harold Courlander and paid around $700,000 for this mistake. So no its not all true.

There are TH-cam videos that show pictures of his family and where they lived and worked.
Alex Haley made that whole story up, it was not true. Nevertheless, people sucked it up like a Hoover Deluxe and still do and believe that it was true.
The reason why was because it was the second movie next to The autobiography of miss jane pittman to deal with slavery. Also when Ben Vereen was doing his part of the miniseries, it was 1976 200 years after The British Are Coming so to speak. He said to People Magazine, "White People Came Here As Future Citizens, We Came Here As Cargo!"

Turns out it was all a lie. The whole story. I met Alex in 1986 in Memphis at The Peabody hotel. I saw him and i said hey your Alex Haley and he said No $hit. Kinda threw me for a loop
Not sure if this comment was meant as an entry into the 'years biggest prat' competition but if you're going to criticise someone you really should ensure YOU are correct. A - Title claims 'based on true story' which it WAS as Kunta Kinte was indeed a real African abducted into slavery. In question are only the details and dates of the book that spawned the mini-series Roots. Haley himself describes it as 'faction', a mix of fact and fiction. B - It is not Hailey, it is Alex HALEY! For heavens sake... if you must pick at someone elses spelling you should at least ensure you get it right yourself!!!!
@@jamescook6564 Exactly! He had to settle and I heard that his estate was in arrears when he died. Either way it's a Masterpiece. This year it celebrates 45 Years since it's telecast. In the UK on a Soap Opera Coronation Street a character named Becky said "I Got More Roots Than Kunta Kinte whomever he is". It was in 2017 and fans were furious. More then a little embarrassing that you post a video and don’t know the author’s name. Sloppy.
