I love hearing the sound of your budgie in the background. It takes me back 45 years when I had a blue budgie named Icarus. He was so much fun to watch and interact with. He loved to press the front of his beak against his little bell and just chatter away at it. 🥰
Love the name Icarus! Skylar has become very social and has said his first words. 😀

Skeins was the very first yarn shop I’ve ever been in, had never knit before….I came in and got some things, sat down with the regulars and have been back every week since…hands down the best group of people I know! Classic quote “the microphone won’t Pick it up”! Your budgie loves the sound of its own voice! You know that they will stop chirping if you cover the cage in a cloth, which is part of their bedtime routine. Great podcast as usual even with the distraction!

My sister and I had a budgie as kids. His name was Pete and we taught him to play “soccer” using a a tiny plastic ball; he would run across the carpet kicking the ball. He wasn’t a talker, but he was super cute.
He is super cute, can't wait until we get him trained, he is still warming up to us.

Received my skein of Bejeweled yesterday. Lovely! I was very surprised to find a Let's hear it for the boys pin in my package. Thank you! Chem Knits Creations has also had a few reusable zip ties that had dye on them. Unless they are in bad shape, a good hot soapy soak to clean them up.

Life lines are so helpful! They have made it so less daunting when trying to fix mistakes knowing ripping out the entire project would not have to be due to an inability to correct an error. A big error mind you, not a tiny one to be bypassed 🤪🙄😆

Awe, I miss my budgies! I had one who loved playing on the hamster wheel. He would swing around on the thing all day 😂 He would also try to escape by opening the cage door (only to have it fall back closed before he could get out 😂)

I got 4 socks plus 2 legs out of a sock tube I knitted. I like shorter socks and it was great fun to make the toes, heels and ribs in different colours.
Good to know, I might be able to get 1 pair of shorties and a regular pair out of a tube, Ray has much bigger feet, not sure if he can get a shortie pair out of them.
Like we wouldn’t notice the bird! And yes knitting is part craft and part connection.

We had 2 budgies when I was growing up. They are susceptible to temp changes and cats. Our Siamese figured out how to open the door. Not a good ending for the birds.

Congratulations on Skyler! Be careful of string toys. I had a lovebird who bit off her leg because her foot got tangled in the string while we were out. We got her to the vet in time, but that was a significant bill I never thought about. She went on to live a long, happy life, so it was well worth it. I just wanted to pass this on because I never thought of it, and it was terrifying.

My budgie Hawkeye was a lavender beauty and he learned a rather impressive number of words and phrases. We found it especially fun when he combined them in his own way - for example, a friend was coming over for his birthday celebration, so we taught him "Happy Birthday John" He already knew "Who stole my beer?" and, taught separately, "Call the cops!" He made up, "John stole my beer! Call the cops!" Yeah, they are smart - if you want to teach yours to talk (Skyler is a boy, by the way - you can tell because the band over is beak is a bright colour rather than beige) do not give him a mirror. They can get quite obsessed with their own image. Also, every cuttlebone we gave him ended up sculpted to resemble the silhouette of a budgie - he shaped the head and long tail every time.
Aww, we are hoping to get him to speak. He is starting to get more comfortable with us.

I love to knit from sock tubes, and I’m sure I will make a ton when I get my circular sock knitting machine in October. But a trick I use when knitting cuffs is I will count down the amount of rows I need for the ribbing put my needles in then unravel the tube to my needles then knit the ribbing that way I don’t have to weave in as many ends and if I’m using the same color of yarn I don’t have to measure the yarn in advance.
That's a great tip, we will have to use that when we get our machine in October.
As a person from southeastern Massachusetts, I hope you go back to Skein Yarn Shop. I had this on my calendar since you first mentioned it. I was really excited to maybe meet you both. I wound up needing urgent gallbladder surgery, so I couldn’t go, 😢. The photos looked like it was such a good time.
We will definitely be going back, we loved visiting the store.
Snap, Ray! I'm also adding toes/heels/cuffs to a sock tube (or two) that I cranked on my machine. And discovering that I am not a fan of this method of sock-making, but on the other hand I'm extra motivated to learn how to make complete socks on my CSM. So there's that! 😂(oh, and +1 for the Italian tubular bind-off on socks.)

I just did that stretchy bind off and read where it flares like it did on your sock. Someone went down two needle sizes and it corrected it. I went down one and it was fine for my neckline.

Your budgerigar is so pretty. And, wow he is vocal. Budgies are flock birds so maybe he may need a friend so he is not lonely. I am sure he will soon settle down. We had one for 12 years. We rescued him because the breeder was going to euthanize him because he had a wonky wing and couldn't fly very far.
He was just like our baby. He sat on my partners lap and watched tv. He sat on my head and plaited my hair. He loved lettuce, apple and cheese and many fruits. They can be such good friends. We called him Charlie Bucket after the chocolate factory boy.
The only things he learned to say were, I see and Charlie's a good boy.
So enjoy your new friend.😂

We had 2 budgies. They hated my husband. He tried and tried to make friends, but they would shriek every time he came within hearing distance. We endined up rehoming them to a family with an autistic little girl. Her bird had died, and she was so upset. She can hold them, and they talk to her. I'm so happy for all.
The video was outstanding as usual. I think Ghost Water is my new favorite. It could be a stand-alone or held double with another color. Well done, Kevin. Ray love the Pure Joy. My husband was walking through, and he stopped and said, "Now that's really nice. For him, that's huge. So well done, Ray.

None of my African Grey Parrots have liked Strawberries or blueberries. They prefer the sweeter fruits over the tart ones. Cantaloupe, grapes and apples are favorites. I started my bird ownership years ago with cockatiels. I then moved on with a Conure parrot and then moved on with my “dream bird”, an African Grey. I have three now. They are so smart, funny and personable. I hope you enjoy your new friend. Once you grow comfortable with your birdie, it will quickly bond with you. Look forward to hearing how things go.
Good to know, so far we haven't been able to get him to eat anything but seeds. Hopefully we can't get him to try some other foods once he warms up to us.
As a child we had a parakeet the same color as yours. His name was Pete. Mom was trying to teach him to say Merry Christmas. He never got any further than Merry Chri.

We started watching Shelter. It’s Mickey Bolitar, not Myron. Loved the book and so far the show is following pretty closely. There are only 3 episodes filmed so far so we might wait and let them get a few more done before we pick it up again. I hate waiting a week between episodes when the stories are intense. Good actors matching the book descriptions.

I love the sockhead hat pattern. Have you seen Kelly's unicowl pattern? I've made a few. She has a great chart in the pattern for several yarn weights, gauges, yardage, and sizes. The chart is worth the cost of the pattern.
We haven't attempted the unicowl, we will definitely take a look at it.
Hello Kevin and Ray, from Mounds, Illinois. I had a busy two weeks, I have been packing so I can move after being here for forty five years. I am downsizing from a house to a smaller condo, in a new town that is closer to my daughter. I think I have overwhelmed goodwill with all of my donations. Okay, I had to go look at the citizens yarn from Jimmy Bean. 100% wool fingering in mulberry and 50/50 alpaca/ sheep wool, worsted yarn in forest green. The last two colors they had available. Just the colors I was hoping for. Have projects for both. 🎉

Aww I have 2 parakeets and had 2 before and one was named Skylar! If nares turn blue it’s a boy and brown a girl! I have a male and female! I trained the male to talk and says a few words! Males talk and I let them fly out of cage and they walk around floor it’s so cute! 8 years old! I don’t clip wings to let them fly! They have their own flight path it’s so cute! When training to fly out of cage, do that In a closed bedroom! And give lots of attention!! Mine love, carrots, celery, cucumber, broccoli, apples, strawberries and bananas! Millet spray of course, treat sticks, vitamins and oats here and there! They love baths I have connected to side of cage! Also loves to be mist with spray bottle!
Aww that's so cute! I'm definitely not going to clip the wings. A lot of the research I did says they need to fly for exercise. I hope he lets us know what his favorite treats are going to be..lol so far he's not really into anything. But we are having so much fun :-)

A home patient of mine trained her budgie to talk. When she uncovered him in the morning he’d say “Gmoring Ethel Whatcha doin’? At night “Gnight Ethel” she also trained him to call the dog. Hysterical because the dog would come every time! Good luck!

Hi Kevin and Ray, lovely knitting as usual. Love the yarn colours you dye Kevin .What fun a budgie, took me right back ,fond memories of my Dad who bred them, each of my three children had one, one of those used to dive bomb the wall every time he was out🤣 . Looking after Grandchildren was special. Knitting socks for my daughters for Christmas at moment, found it hard to match the second sock when yarn was random stripe🙄See you next time enjoy your two weeks🧶👍🏻
