- In the 2024 Birmingham Supercross race, a surprising and unprecedented event occurred when a Monster Energy Card girl was hit on the track. The race concluded just a couple of hours ago, and both sides of the story have now been shared.
Before delving into the perspectives of the girl and Cooper Webb, let's revisit the crash to provide context. Surprisingly, Cooper Webb mentioned that the incident didn't significantly impact his race. While it did affect his mentality for a few laps, he remained humble and didn't want to use it as an excuse for not catching up to Jett. However, it's worth noting that the crash did disrupt his momentum and may have prevented a more exciting battle between him and Jett.

Clearly that part of the race needs better organization, if she did get hurt the promoters would have had a lawsuit on their hands. So, it's good to hear that everyone is ok.

Its really hard not to like Webb. Not the first time he got screwed by someone else and brushed it off with a smile and never blamed the other person when its clearly there fault. Dudes a Legend. He deserves all the Love Plessinger gets.

They turn the card and walk to the first turn. She usually walks away after the 1st lap. She had to pick up the rest of the 30 second cards the other ladies left. And the track is CRAZY short so they got to her stupid fast around a blond finish jump. Watch the race guy

That was extremely dangerous and whoever was responsible for directing her needs to be held accountable for this incident. I very doubt the 30 second girls even follow racing so they just do what they are told. AMA and the organization leadership need to step it up!

And… just as all Corporate Business Concepts… these “Girls” are 100% expected to know their responsibilities and the awareness needed for each.
Ironically… we actually agree that “AMA needs to step it up.”
However… it’s better understood as “Responsible Management Practices,” for which the AMA, Feld Entertainment and Monster Energy will “all”most certainly adhere to… in making sure “that girl” is never again entrusted to the position of a “Supercross Monster Girl!”

Amazing she said, Ive done this before, walking across the track while the race is on. I can believe she isnt smart enough to not do that, but the remaining of the staff, crews, organizers allow this to happen is unacceptable.

@@vetracer217 Are we sure the gate operator isn't required to verify that the starting area isn't clear before dropping the gate? In my opinion, the duties would be better served by just having a fixed 30 second board somewhere and keeping the start straight cleared of all personnel.

I tend to believe what Coop had to said if he said that it didn't affect him then by all means I'm sure it didn't cuz at that moment he could have easily used that as an excuse but he's not that type of rider he's not looking to make excuses for why he wasn't able to close the gap good on him for calling a spade a spade
He was being gracious. Of course it affected him, he had the inside line and would have been right alongside Jett out of turn one. Maybe it doesn’t affect the outcome but certainly affected the start
Yeah these top guys are often too humble to tell the world the truth. He knows it affected him, but doesn't really know if it would have changed the outcome.
He said he was " concerned " about her and i doubt that was through the race ..as they would have stopped the race if she was injured ...after a few corners he would be back into race mode and not be thinking of it anymore....we all had incidents during a race that we felt compassion ( nailing a rider who fell etc..) but carried on in most cases as there are people there to deal with someone hurt.... at that level it wouldn't shake him up more than a few seconds after it happened....

Hat's off to Webb, he could have made excuses (and rightfully so) I was never a really big fan of his but after listening to his podcast on Gypsy Tales and this fiasco I have alot more respect for him

No doubt there’s just something about a peg hitting your shin that’ll make you scream like a 3yr old girl! My foot came off the back of the peg while riding trials one time. From my the top of my ankle to almost my knee it tore off the Velcro and pleather on my boots! Imagine what it would’ve done to my shin without them!

Need actual people in the booth telling what is currently happing in the race. Nobody cares about the little stories about the riders’ life during a race or what their favorite food is. Talk about the race in real time. Re watch Supercross from early 2000’s had much much better people in booth.

That guy know more about the sport than everyone who has commented on these vids 100 time over (myself included and I've followed the sport very closely before Ricky was even riding 80cc minis) sure some of his comments are a little goofy but that's what I love about the guy! He's definitely not a robot . He calls em as he sees em , I don't always agree with the lil fella but we're all entitled to our own opinion. Webb is the man. Never rattled by the pressure of other riders chasing him down nor the occassional Monster Energy girl getting in his way. He's definitely one of my favorite riders for sure.
Funny the TV crew did not even mention it after the accident.They should have had a on the track reporter interview the girl or there team afterwards.

It didn't affect Webb at all like he said. He didn't lose any time & it was the very first lap so if he was going to catch Jett he had 19 other minutes to do so.

An AMA official waved her across the track, but still, she should have looked before she crossed.
Total respect for Webb and how he handled it! He could’ve easily used this as an excuse, cause many riders out there would have for sure, but he didn’t and chose to show empathy for the gal even if it was her fought! That dude total class for that!

It may have affected the start of the race but not the finish. Jett got the hole shot good and proper right from the start. I’m a fan of Coop and Jett but Coop wasn’t able to close the 3-4sec gap during the race. Jett will be the new SX champion bar any major accidents.

Pretty much exactly what I thought she misjudged the timing and got caught, a lot of people giving her shit but it’s a simple mistake anyone could make she handled it well. Webb probly felt like if he could have passed Jett he still would have even with the mishap. You’re right though humble guy and props for not taking an excuse he rode awesome.

What's crazy is, he's obviously shown that he's faster than Chase. Never thought I'd see it, but it seems Chase can sprint just fine, but can't keep a good pace for very long. Although, that track sucked (I know, they changed the layout due to they thought it was going to be a mudder).

The real story I would like to see reported on is why Eli got such a bad start. Especially considering he got the holeshot in his heat race. I looked at a replay of the start and I can't figure out what went wrong. I think it would make for a good video. Did he do a post race interview ?
He wasn't in the press conference so any quotes we could get from him won't be out until Sunday night or Monday at earliest.

It's hard to holeshot everytime (unless your name is Jett). I think they should get rid of the holeshot devices, would add a little more skill to the starts, separate the riders going into the first turn.
Huge props to Cooper for not making excuses, he's smart enough to know he very likely wasn't gonna catch Jett no matter what. Also some props to the Monster girl because she didn't really make excuses either just said simply, "I was the last one, I had to grab the boards and I didn't make it." I'm glad she's not hurt, I'm glad the race results (probably) was unaffected. What can you say, shit happens.

To be fair to her they're coming backwards down the start straight at that point, that they JUST went the other way down. Motocross tracks aren't usually multi-directional so I can see how it'd catch you off guard.

I agree the track directors need to be held accountable. No reason for her to have been in that situation. She did good to dive away and so did Webb to avoid hitting her. So many questions still not answered as to why this happened. Both did good on the interviews and didn't point figures. They took as hey, shit happens, move on to the next. Kudos to both! Coops from another NC native, I'm now a fan. Sorry it took so long.
Even if there is no card girl right there, Webb still can't make a pass on Jett but only close the gap between them. Jett saw that girl from distance so he make a long turn. He would have take the shortest way to that turn if there's no card girl right there. But again, Webb is such a nice guy. Didn't even blame her for the result. One of the most interesting rider to watch.

To say that effected webbs race is just stupid . He lost about 2 metered on jett and only went backwards from there .
I was running 3rd in a local Mammoth Mountain qualifier when I spotted a full size dog running across the start straight on my left and toward my portion of track ahead. I followed the first two guys off the big table-top, and while I was in the air, you can clearly see on my GoPro the dog running toward the area where I would land. My butt puckered and I prepared for the worst. I missed the dog and didn't see it again. 15 minutes later, after the race, my wife was like, "OMG...that poor dog almost got hit!" and I was like, "huh? What dog....ohhhh yea...there was a dog!" Bro, when you're racing even at the amateur expert level, a thing like that has ZERO impact on the next few laps. You focus ONLY what you need to focus on or you don't last long doing this sport.

Considering that could very well have been her first time at a motorcycle race, the blame lies completely with the race officials. She should have never been even close to the track without an escort. A 20 minute safety and coordination meeting before the races is obviously not adequate. Maybe it's time to go back to qualified track workers holding the boards instead of models.
