I don't usually add any comments, but let me tell you, your 3 videos on seismic design SAVED me, and god bless your heart for making this video. I was so lucky to find your video among all the other videos that weren't what I needed. I hope the ice in your ice coffee never melts:) THANK YOU BIG TIME.
Im an Aerospace Engineer currently working a building structure and your Part 1-3 seismic video classes help me understand the Load requirements for design of a civil structure, good work!
I was taking your lessons and comparing the results simultaneously with RFEM dynamic module to generate response spectrum and all the variables automatically calculated were correct. Now I have deeper understanding of seismic loads + more trust in the FEM program I use at office. Kiitos!
This definitely helped a lot in terms of my senior design project as well! Thanks for this! Wish there was more vids on each component in design such as wind, snow, dead and live loads, etc. Maybe one big video on just designing a building too! Thank you again!
dude I love that idea! im working as fast as i can on getting content that you all want out! The walkthrough of the design of an entire building in multiple regions where different loading conditions govern would be SICK
Thank you for your effort in making these 3 videos. I have discovered your channel recently and I hope to be constant in watching your videos that are really very valuable in a sense of knowledge. great job.
Really nice, i finished all the 3 parts. This is the code walkthrough I was looking for. Thank you. I'm thinking if there's code walkthrough for wind too.
As an architect, these videos are great in understanding the more complicated Seismic design criteria and lateral forces. I was wondering whether you had a 2 story home example for light frame wood with shear panels in Seismic Category D... Thanks again for these great videos!
im glad my videos gave you a little background on what we do Arturo! I have a blend of design videos in my wood design playlist that kind of combines those topics. but I should get that suggestion on my list!
Bashir Love from the USA. My great friend in graduate school was from Afghanistan! One of the kindest people ive met while in school. always brought great food to the office!
Thank you for the video, do you @kestava or anyone else here have any information to assist in classifying the structure type. I have a cantilever stockpile conveyor and not sure how to classify according to ASCE7-16 structure types.
When calculating Eh and Ev, you take your rho multiplied by Fx, are those Eh and Ev at each level or total? I ask only if you had multiple stories, 2 or greater, would I take the sum Fx or just each level Fx and determine my horizontal at that level? Same question with Ev, is the W the total weight of the structure of the individual weight at each floor?
Hello, I am doing my senior project at my school and my project is to design a 4 story hotel in CA, so these videos have been very helpful! I was wondering where would hn start if there was a parking garage? Also, whats the best way to calculate the weight of a building? I was also wondering if you could make videos about the wind load? I honestly could ask you a lot of questions about this code.
Hi Casey, sounds like a really great senior project! If the Hotel is 4 stories with a flat roof, then Hn would be to the top of the roof. then your seismic horizontal forces would be distributed to each of the stories based on relative height of each story and relative weight of each story. I will do a video in the next week and do a quick example for a multi story structure for you! tell ya friends about the channel homie. Peace
Hi, I am a newbie to this code. Could you clarify the difference between OMF, IMF, and SMF Frame type? I designing a warehouse made from I - section, one storey. Which one is the best
Hi Toni, Great Question! OMF is really straight foward on design but its a VERY conservative design and has alot of restrictions in its use case. AKA when the code actually permits you to use this design. IMF takes almost the same level of design / detailing as SMF so typically (but not always) if your going to do IMF you might just want to jump to SMF since the cost for SMF is not to much more and the benefits are significantly greater from a design stand point. I hope this helps!

thanks for the kind words! Im happy you found the channel and got what you needed. I need to def do more seismic videos. Ice coffee gang 😁

that's so cool! welcome to the auditorium!

Jose Luis VE thank you! spread the word and lets get some friends to join in on Team Kestava!
Thanks so much for this! Doing a senior project currently and this helped me so much with the seismic calculations.
You're very welcome!
Awesome. I wish I had my professors like you in college. Thank you so much and looking forward to more videos like this.
you're welcome! looking forward to releasing more videos!
Really really helpful! I’m a newbie at a structural design firm and I found this to be extremely useful. Thanks again for doing this.
Really very helpful for seismic design
Brilliant work. I could use the 3 videos to determine the seismic loadings. Keep on with the great works!
Cool, thanks!

Information of the best quality, Greetings
This was very helpful! Thank you. Excellent explanations and energy!
That’s very helpful. Thanks a lot. Great job.
That was an amazing video all the parts really helped a lot in calculating base shear, request to make same video for wind pressure calculation also.
Great suggestion! I've been promising wind design examples for a while.
Amazing video series, it helped me calculate seismic forces for a modular house (Y)
that's so awesome to hear Thorny Valk, very nicely done

Thanks, will do Nasim!
Nice explanation! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
thanks sir for making such a great videos, love you from Afghanistan

@@Kestava_Engineering Sir, Hope to see you one day in Afghanistan 🇦🇫, you will taste more delicious food. Our country is famous for its foods.

Thanks fo the great videos. I didnt understand where GE (ground elevation) come to play. how does that number effects our calculations?
amazing Kestava :)
you got it zozo
@@Kestava_Engineering I was wondering if you can make a video about dead load and live load. You're description is perfect ❤
Great video thanks good job
No problem 👍
What about a video on chapter 15 nonbuilding structure.
im loving that idea - consider it added to the list!
was great

wind is also on the menu very shortly. to start - look in the ASCE 7-16 provisions and look up the wind chapters.
Kestävä awesome thanks
@@caseyarbuthnot7316 The Latest video is up and its all about finding story shear of a multi story building!! get it kid
I would dicretize both levels as: walls hx=5ft wx=56k and roof hx=16ft wx=82k

thank you so much super clear explanation, I finally understand it! Professor didn't help much lol
Dude just drop a 3 hour explainer. These 15 minute videos are too short
