- The eighth and concluding arc of the Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru series.
After losing her entire family as a result of the mysterious murders on Rokkenjima, Ange Ushiromiya is driven by loneliness to learn the truth behind their deaths. Dissatisfied with the conclusions suggested in the previous solutions, her brother Battler appears to a six-year-old version of Ange to fulfill her desire to join everyone on Rokkenjima.
As Battler and Beatrice open the gameboard one last time for Ange's sake, Ange soon becomes suspicious of the happy but inconsistent circumstances Battler has presented to her. In spite of the potential sorrow it will bring, Ange is determined to learn the truth and defeat the witches behind the events on Rokkenjima once and for all, even if it means defying Battler's wishes.

How interesting. Sailor Moon and Umineko are only piece of fiction that changed my life so vastly... There are some others but these two are the most.

I have alot of issues with Twilight, but if there's something I had to praise about it, it would be Lambda.
Would you care to explain why? Personally, Twilight is my favourite arc, after Requiem.
I think its pacing is pretty bad, and the cast being as cluttered as it is, some characters seemed to be thrown to the sidelines with very little to do. Even though Ange is my favorite character of the whole series, I can't deny Ryukishi seemed to be running into a wall writing her. So much devolution on her part. And the lesson Ange was hammered with for the whole arc seemed to be 'deny reality since there is no fucking way you could function otherwise'. That's not good and it should not be portrayed as good. That's what led Sayo to do what she did. Fortunately the manga and the new light novels seem to be trying to fix that particular issue with a view more of 'live on, move on and try to find happiness'. The original VN seemed to also try and teach Ange the mindset of 'nobody on Rokkenjima was bad, don't listen to what others say', and anybody who reads Umineko knows what a load of bullshit that it. But yes, the arc did have a few very good, strong character moments that did ring true to their characters, one of them being Lambda. Her portrayal seemed to be most consistent with her overall characterization in the series with some evolution thrown to the mix! I had absolutely no issues with Lambda in Twilight.
I pretty much agree with what you're saying here, and I think Ryukishi also realizes the problem with this, because one of the stories in Higanbana is basically teaching the opposite lesson (it's basically about the problems that can be caused by denying reality and relying on "magic" to live). It's also a little unrealistic that someone could find out proof that their parents murdered most of their extended family and then mentally wrap it back up in a box. I feel like the best outcome would have been one where Ange both acknowledged the truth and found some sort of way forward other than outright denying/ignoring it. Up until that point, her character arc seemed to be something along the lines of "bitter/nihilistic and only concerned with learning the truth -> learning the potential value in "magic" from Maria" and a good way to wrap things up would have been for her to still insist on learning the truth, but to do so for more healthy reasons than "I WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH SO I CAN JUMP OFF A BUILDING."
edit: Another thing that kinda bugged me is the "Eva was actually a good mom who was caring for Ange by hiding the truth" stuff. Like, I certainly don't doubt the idea that Eva was withholding that info for Ange's sake, but that doesn't excuse the fact that she literally abused her constantly. It seems like it's trying to send a message of "both Ange and Eva made mistakes" (particularly given the Witch's Tanabata which mentions that their relationship started out bad because Ange wouldn't accept Eva), but Ange was a 6 year old girl and doesn't have the same sort of responsibility to keep her shit together that Eva - a grown-ass adult - has. Regardless of her intentions in withholding the truth from Ange, she was definitely not a good parent to her.
The manga does a better job, though I still feel like Ange's arc was a little weird overall. I still really enjoyed the episode, but it's definitely weak compared with all the other episodes (which were almost flawless in terms of their core content, even if the pacing was sometimes not ideal).
@@BenkaiDebussy Eva acting the way she did to Ange made sense. She only lost her whole family and was made the enemy of the world. Her abuse on Ange wasn't even as bad as Rosa's and I don't see people blaming Rosa's behavior on bad writing, as if adults are forbidden from acting like normal humans in fictions
@@powerfulberry237 lets not forget she was taking care of the daughter of the people that, besides her brother and his wife, were also the killers of her son. And even then she didnt resent Ange as some people would had.

Ella creo esta historia para estar a su lado... No hace falta decir nada más, con una sencilla reverencia y simple "gracias", me despido... Valió la pena, para aquellos que no puedan verlo, solo traten de mirarlo con amor, es la única forma de comprender esta historia donde tu no lloras... Maybe it was because wingless was playing, but for whatever reason I never noticed or questioned Shannon standing there 3:01:27 and in the next scene Beatrice is standing in the same spot.
