Mangosteen is the queen of fruits. The king can come later. I think mangosteen is banned in some locales because the outer thick skin could permanently dye any fabric it touches purple.

This why I like about your video. It does not make any sense for tourist to like every food available here. I know some vlogger just want to be nice but it feel less rewarding when they actually like the food. Even Malaysian dont like everything. That is beauty of having variety of food from different cultures. Everyone has something they like.

mangosteen, manggis in Malay. Botanical name Garcinia mangostana. Garcinia fruits includes the asam gelugor, asam kandis, achacha, button mangosteen, yellow mangosteen, lemondrop mangosteen and many many more.

The lady selling mangosteen gave one hard fruit which cannot be eaten. Good n fresh mangosteen has a softer shell and easy to open. The hard skin is already a few days old(can't eat)and it's as hard as a rock!.
I have a mangosteen tree in my garden. My tree fruited in August till Sept.

There may be a slight difference in the Apam Balik recipe made by Malays and other people.

Hi, Since your mum just is here, may I recommend for her to take a medical check up/health screening at one of the private hospital here in KL.
I just watched Nomad Capitalist channel. Andrew sent all his staffs for a medical check up at Prince Court Hospital. it cost him about RM 1200/staff. He mentioned that similar health screening will cost thousands $ and may take days to complete whilst at Prince Court Hospital it took 2-3 hrs to complete the whole test procedures. After watching Andrew's video, I immediately remember that your mum/dad are here. They may take this opportunity to do a quick health screening if they wish.

For Malays, we considered Durian as the king of fruits while mangosteen as the queen of fruits.
Durian is considered hot fruit while mangosteen is considered cold fruit.
So, when you eating both fruits, your body temperature will be balanced.
During my grand's time, durian & mangosteen trees will produce fruits in the same season to counter balance each other hot-cold nature attributes.
But today, people only focus on durian research & no more season for durian because we can get it almost a whole year.

Oh, had you tried Malaysian doughnuts - kuih keria. Heavier than usual donuts in texture and smaller in size, with the best having a high sweet potato to wheat flour ratio. Fried and doused in sugar water to create a sugary crust. I would heartily recommend it. 😋 They may give Timmies a run for its money, perhaps.

An interesting trivia and fact about mangosteens.... check the star-shaped stub at the bottom of the fruit (the opposite side from the stem). Count the number of petals there. That coincides with the number of slices within the fruit.

Mangosteen is known as the Queen of fruits. It was the HRH QE's favourite fruit that was despatched from Msia yearly to England. The British were in love with mongosteens when they arrived here 8n thec1700s and they wrote quite abit about it and wrote poems in honour of it. Glad your mum can see thru fruits..whoa LOL !!!!!
