Idgaf I love my 9'0 Catchsurf Log and my 6'6 Catchsurf Skipper. I've been on 25ft faces on my 9'0 Log and I 12ft faces on my 6'6 Skipper. The only downside is they waterlog if you don't prep them properly and duck diving is almost impossible. But in terms of surfing = they're awesome.
I would also say don't overlook "Cheap popout" type boards for non-HPSB designs. My favourite board ATM for 2-4ft is an EPS Aloha Twin D designed by James Woods of Lennox head but made in Thailand and sold at a discount.
Surfboards are something very personal. The Pros' boards are developed to suit their surfing style and although several Pros use the same model, their individual boards have slight differences so the surfer feels comfortable and connected to the board. I have performance boards that I can catch and ride more waves then my everyday or small waves boards. I feel more comfortable when paddling and connected when riding them. I prefer boards with more rocker than a flat bottom, even on small waves has long the waves have push and pocket.
Great info, especially about the marketing!! Glad you finished it off with trying ya local shaper, the more of us that get into doing so in NZ the better. Who better to know about our waves.
Good info. As mentioned, I found the squash tail a handful in 6ft Wilkes Pass on the bottom turns. It did though have the speed I needed there. Another guy I know has the round tail here and says it works well for him in overhead waves. I'll be interested to see how my new one goes. I'm 5'10" at 82kgs and my old and new Red Tiger the same lengths at 6'1".
@@tui_ruwhiu_wavecomms yeh I'm 6'1, weigh 94kg. My opinion - with the wide point sitting just behind half way, I think you're better off with a bit of length (size up) with the Red Tiger. And you're spot on, wether it's 2ft or 5ft it definitely needs power. The board goes so good in the pocket.
Anything longer than 6'1" doesn't work for me in small waves. I've got a 6'2" Shadow and find its too long for 4ft and under. I've got a 6'4" Ghost and only take it out on days over 6ft.

Sounds like you found the right boards for you.

Not an area I've looked at but good you pointed it out.

Agree, they are personal. And the waves you surf them in are important, too. You've obviously found the boards you like in the waves you surf.
On the mark again Tui 👌
Cheers!

@@azzag2414 Thanks. Local shapers have a tough time, particularly because of the marketing of the big companies.
I have the Red Tiger in round tail - short board.
Ive found 5ft is about its limit.
Im 6'1 & the board is 6'3.
