Considering ASUS screws over customers as a hobby, I would probably not recommend the ROG Ally.
Proprietary port also sucks IMO, could just go OCULink or TB, that would be much nicer.
But I love that you're honest about these devices

Off topic but which do you recommend, the Nintendo 2ds or anbernic rg405m?

Super different devices, 2DS if you want to play 3DS and DS games, 405m for everything else.

Hey Joey, the chapter for KTR1 is mislabeled as Retroid Pocket 2S (although it would surprise me if this was meant as a jab, hahaha)
Great first look at these devices, though!

😂 Yeah I hear that, the fan is deffo annoying. But the weihht imbalance is a problem for a number of reasons.
It does look nice in the all black. But I know what you mean. It's not Cheap at all. You would expect much better quality when looking at the finer details, sorry you had to experience that.
Wait a minute, is that slight drift?
    Dude I dig these reviews👌🏾

The 405m has hall joysticks, not switch joysticks

They are switch sticks physically. They happen to have hall sensors

The packaging for the Ayaneo was obnoxious and I think you were being easy on them by not bringing up the issue you were having with the screen while you were talking about the controls. What was the deal with that? I do not think we as a community should be so defensive of companies when they release less-than-functioning devices, and that includes the Ally. I am currently going through a customer service nightmare myself with them. Very good review and I appreciate how critical you were here.

Yeah I have no clue what was up with that, but hasn't happened before. Really weird.

Dont forget about the large battery of the KTR1. I have one and the dpad was terrible but after a while of breaking it in, its functional. My gold standard dpad is the RP3+/RP2S. The face buttons are all terrible. The only dpad and buttons thats worse imo is the r35s but that can be forgiven since it's a quarter of the ktr1's price.

Battery may as well be for a million hours, won't matter if I hate the device. She's gone to a better place now.

Hadn't heard about the KTR1 before. It's showing as over $300(!) for the base model on the site.

@kazalien The link in the description is from an unofficial reseller with a big markup.

Fixed, forgot the official site. They do 15% off site wide, and free shipping, so it ends up being close to the same anyway.

interesting view on the KT-R1, this is the first bad review I saw on it (manufacturing bugs, sure) .... They must have updated it because every reviewer I saw liked the D-pad a lot, and the hall sticks on it (both sticks are hall sticks, NO MORE DRIFT). I even picked one up based on other reviews, D-pad is great, as good as other models, even tried a 405, and I think it's as good (controls wise but, more power, and with a good front end, it's nice, even plays some light Switch games.
Huge battery, good controls, nice display, GameCube and PS2 in your pocket. It's not even close as bad as your saying..
I guess to each their own.....

A lot of pc devices kick fans on at full speed before the bios fan control can kick in. Not every computer does it but if you've ever rebooted a server in a data center, you might have hurt your ears lol.

This video made me loose faith in any Aya Neo product. Aya Neo charges an Arm and a Leg on these Handhelds and their Controls are subpar compared to the competition.

I am a KTR1 owner and I must say that although QC is not good my device works great and I am absolutely satisfied with it, I would never call it a bad device.
The buttons don't feel as bad as you described them, however, the first approach wasn't positive for me either.
What I believe is evident here though is that Nil (the CEO/Manifacturer/everything else) should associate with a company/other contributors to
    1) reduce costs 2) improve time management and release things faster 3) improve issues with current device's flaws 4) improve software experience
A one-man-show in the world of mass-produced pieces of technology that continue to get updated/upgraded/replaced whilst the prices go down is not feasable and at this point this is under everyone's eyes.

I dont know man those ally sticks are god awful. They are literally the ones from the gpd win 3 and original one x player.
Then my unit also has sticky buttons.... Thankfully I have some managed to avoid sd card issues.
Still, I love my ally. But truth is none of these devices are perfect. Or even great.... More like "pasable"
I even bought the xg mobile

The KT-R1 is more of a DIY Handheld. I love the 3:2 screen however the D-Pad, Face Buttons, and Software are the Achilles Heel that ruins this Device. Also Retroids D-Pads have come a long way since the original Retroid Pocket and Retroid Pocket 2.

    • @theOlz83
      @theOlz83 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's not advertised anywhere as a DIY device. The creator has never sold it as that. It's just a poorly built device.
