While you may have been advised to do very short videos Master Barenboim millions of avid musicians and listeners can bare well into 2 hours on music...Please consider this.
it´s true but it´s also true the fact that it would be stressful been a kind of "youtuber" and try to explain the sense of music to people who hasn't tools to understand or enjoy So, thank you very much maestro for do this to us!!!
I have the feeling that he didn't even need to review the piece and just remembers it with the most important features for us to learn from. It's as though I invited him to my piano and ask him to play something that I know, and he would respond, "Oh yeah I played it when I was 13 and here it is..." That is such a great musical/internet experience. BTW the piece is based on two simple French kid's song, which I remember as a child.
I think these 5 minute videos are perfect. A sample, short and concise, delivered in the most modern idiom (You Tube). If you go to any concert or (especially) opera, most of the concert goers are old... a sea of white hair I recall when I saw Parisfal with Nagano years ago in LA. Today's younger people typically listen to pop music, with an average time span of 3-4 mins. So these samplers are perfect. Hopefully it will open someone's ears and light that fire of the love of classical music.
Young people are catching up, don't worry! When I went to see Valentina Lisitsa play live in Buenos Aires, the audience was filled with just as many young people as there were old. And when she started playing Liszt's 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody on the encore, you could just feel the excitement of all the young people in the crowd
Gracias Maestro! Lo admiro mucho siempre!
The ending - last 2 measures - in my thinking - indicates - Next to last measure - The sun finally breaks out and the rain ends in the garden. Last measure - the rainbow explodes out in the midst of the sunlight and hones in on the rain-soaked garden.
Very interesting explanations, really. Perhaps it would have been even more interesting if the Maestro had reminded us that Debussy makes use of the French folk melodies "Nous n'irons plus aux bois" and "Dodo, l'enfant do." Those who know these songs will have recognized them. Otherwise, his interpretation is perfect.
Precious 5 minutes! I am addicted to it... and love the sound of Maestro Daniel Baremboim signing the score at the begining of each presentation! Lovely!
It is a beautiful piece of music. Definitely has a very impressionist sound to it, which makes sense since it was composed by Debussy. Thank you for another insightful video!
La sección se llama "5 minutes on...", pero me encantaría que se llamara "30 minutes on..." por lo menos. Se me hacen cortísimos los vídeos. Muchas gracias por compartir su arte.
These are some of the best videos on youtube. Thank you. Could you make a video on the history of western harmony: from bach to mozart, to Beethoven, Chopin, to the late romantics then on to Debussy, Gershwin, then Schoenberg, Stravinsky all the way up to post-modern composers? I honestly do not know of any books that have treated this subject with any authority which I find very surprising. I would love to hear your wisdom on this subject. many thanks hank
Maestro, in terms of composing do you believe creativity outshines raw talent? Or does the composer have to have a great amount of talent to compose his or her pieces in order for them to be considered "good"? Thank you!
Daniel Barenboim said that the music was not related to a particular country, but respectfully I disagree since there are quotations of popular French songs. I think that these gardens are in France.
Debussy so isn't my music, but Maestro Barenboim can make me listen to anything.
This way it sounds much more like a an impressionist painting and not like a technical etude. Very, very nice!
Es usted muy calaro y ameno
muchas gracias México.
Merci M. Baremboim !

So, thank you very much maestro for do this to us!!!
Thank you. I like your imagery, and the reminder that impressions are subjective.
No, thank you. What a marvelous musical mind and privilege to share his experience.
By far the BEST music tutorial ever! Too short! Please make more and make each longer
Beauty.. thank you ..
The Maestro Barenboim comment about Romeo and Juliet and this piece by Debussy was very suggestive - thanks a lot!!!
You are my hero maestro Barenboim! You have a phenomenal memory and technique - continue to teach us - God bless you.....

I agree, this video is stupid

Louis, do you know which children's songs? I'm studying this piece and am curious. Thank you!
Vera Tsybokov does a very useful analysis of this piece which is better from a practical mastery point of view.

Please do episodes longer than 5 minutes. These are great and I want to watch these for hours on end.

The ending - last 2 measures - in my thinking - indicates -
Next to last measure - The sun finally breaks out and the rain ends in the garden.
Last measure - the rainbow explodes out in the midst of the sunlight and hones in on the rain-soaked garden.
That is exactly what I always thought about the ending.

Most wonderful
I hope that those 5 dislike are because they wanted a longer version
If true, I agree with them😊 !
Eres el mejor!!! Grande maestro, sigo pendiente de sus videos!

For this one, I wanted more.

I love and respect him too
Maestro, can you please talk about jazz music? Can you please share with all of us your opinion about this music?
Be like water my friend! Bruce Lee
That bass note change at 3:31-3:32 is so beautiful
"Jardins sous la pluie" - this means "Gardens Under The Rain".

Could you talk about Haendel?
Am I the only one who hear some sort of noises in "Jardins sous la pluie" on every streaming service? Is it something with recording or what?
Like the sound of a whispering demon? Or what?
Maestro, what do you think about Fazıl Say, his interpretations and also own compositions?
Or at least 10 - 12 minutes.
he learned this at 13...
Isaak
I did too, no big deal. My mom has compared me with a 7 year old.
@@shinemendwoor what does that mean?
Yes, and by that time he had already learnt the repertoire of Mozart, Beethoven and more 😎
Please make a video on Beethoven's sonata opus 111.
Arabesque / Debussy
