    If these animals were anything like their real-life counterparts:
    1. They would stick to fighting in the shallows.
    2. The mosasaur would come closer to tying the Meg in things like speed and senses.

  • @GlitchisGoated
    @GlitchisGoated ปีที่แล้ว +4

    As much as the outcome does make sense, I still think the in-gen mosa would win.
    The reason why, the mosasaurus is smart enough to know to stay close to the surface, let the Meg’s attack come, and then counter the attack with its superior agility. The megs lack of capable movement from side to side in the head make it even more vulnerable to attack from the side. And since the mosasaurus can move and turn in all directions faster then the Meg can, the Meg wouldn’t be able to counter. I get the Meg is faster and can escape, but I don’t see it being fast enough. And take into account if the mosasaurus with to rip into the Meg’s flippers or tail, the Meg would be much more effected by the attack than if the Meg ripped into the mosasaurus’ flippers. So for those reasons, I do think the mosasaurus would win this battle.

    Great video, I just had a problem with the senses section, I was really hoping they would bring up some part where f the fight at the end of Jurassic world where presumably the mosasaur not only sensed a fight happening but “watched” it until the indo rex was not only close enough to the water but also injured, showing intelligence but also great senses to be able to keep up with that fight from in the water

    This battle would have been much quicker. Megalodon landing a single bite to the side or face would tear off the jaw or a complete chunk from the side. A 40,000 lb bite force is enough to tear the mosa upper jaw off during such a fight. The bote in that scene was inaccurate. Biteforce, the jet propelled silent strike alone would end the mosa.

    I have to correct something you missed in the bite section. Mosasaur has a secondary inner top jaw. This jaw moved independently of it's primary jaws, and was used to shred prey while the primary jaws held the prey. If you look closely at the inner top mouth of INGEN's Mosa, you see it also has this second jaw. This makes the Mosa's jaws and biting strategy different. The meg will bite and back off, a hit and run tactic. Mosa will hang on for a bit, using it's inner jaw to shred any part it bites. This will most likely result in more blood loss, and potentially more debilitating damage.
    PS: Rewatching this, it's possible the mosa had Orca DNA, which would have drastically affected it's intelligence, allowing it to make smarter attack moves.

    Fun fact- in real life there's actually evidence to suggest that some mosasaurs specialised in ramming attacks! The mosasaur Tylosaurus was found to have an increasingly large and robust bony protuberance on its upper snout as it aged; this protuberance would have helped tylosaurs ram their prey with increasing amounts of force as they grew larger- perfect for a specialist big game hunter, while Mosasaurus' crushing bite would have made it a generalist of both large vertebrates and ammonites.

    I would like to point out 1 detail and that is that the Meg’s fins are a huge weak point, even more so than the mosa’s flippers because if it loses even 1 whether it’s a pectoral fin or the dorsal fin it’s dead due to the inability to balance its self. It would basically just be spiraling like a football as it swims forward until it dies. Many animals use this weakness to hunt and/or defend against modern sharks

    • @Tidal_Terror
      @Tidal_Terror ปีที่แล้ว +53

      Sharks have been repeatedly observed thriving even after having severely damaged pectoral, dorsal, and even caudal fins. Though the meg would likely have difficulty adapting to loss of a fin at first, it would likely not be enough to significantly throw it out of control. In this fight, had the shark really dedicated after landing the tail bite, it would have severed it completely, making the fight end much sooner.

    To me, both in real paleontology & this sci-fi scenario, the megalodon is undisputed victor with aforementioned reasons. That battle with the kraken in the movie alone is enough to tell the toughness of this creature!

    I can totally understand the analysis. And it is a great work of art. I love how goji center went over almost all the most important parts and made all understandable. But I must say that they forgot the Megs biggest weakness. It's tail. Sharks swim with their tail and that to at least 60%. So getting even injured in that area would mean certain doom to the shark. The mosa is going to target the tail since it is the thinnest part of the Meg which means that its vulnerability is much higher which will cost it its life. So it comes down to the first ambush of the Meg. But in all straight up battles the Mosa should actually win since it will disable its opponents movement.
    But that just comes from me. Still love the video.

      Sharks can still operate without a tail dorsal fins is a different story loses of the tail would slow them down but if you mean the entire tail not just fine of it that would be almost impossible for mosasaur to chew if in battle let alone if the meg didn’t fight back

    • @erikkilla1143
      @erikkilla1143 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@l4z3rgh0st3 I can agree but the speed loss would make it possible for the Mosa to stop the Meg and hold it down and the dorselfin is their way to manoeuvre so I agree that a wound to the dorselfin would be the end since the meg would not be able to turn anymore or if the meg could it would be very slowly. And the tail doesn't need to be severed it is enough to damage the muscles on one side since they are in a constant state of stress they would snap on one side since the other would pull much harder. That is a phenomenon that happens in animals with muscle's that are under constant use since they normally should never be damage to a certain degree. But it all comes down to the amount of damage that is done and how fast it happens.

      Wrong sharks can not swimp without a tail and the pectoral fins, why do you think when the illegal shark fishers, cut off their tails they can no longer swim?

      The major issue in your logic is that a Meg hunting a mosa would be some lame arena battle. Instead of a high speed from the depths ambush to the head to stun and disable the prey. This whole concept is silly but doesn't take in account actual hunting behaviors from similar evolved species

      @@Siggrim it won't matter, these animals can hear as well if you look at the closest relative the komodo dragon. Despite the mosa’s intelligence it pulled some pretty stupid moves in this fight. It had already injured the meg’s tail. So that should’ve been it’s main focus. When it went in for the gills it should’ve targeted the fins instead as those are more obvious weak spots or go right back to the tail. But of all of its attacks the ram at that moment was the dumbest. The mosa could’ve won this fight if it targeted the more obvious weak spots first.

      “It had already injured the Meg’s tail. So that should’ve been it’s main focus”
      I don’t think it’s easy to focus on a large thrashing tail, even if the mosa focused on it, it would’ve opened up a lot of weaknesses for the meg to exploit. One good bite from the meg is basically gameover.
      “When it went in for the gills it should’ve targeted the fins instead as those are more obvious weak spots or go right back to the tail”
      The mosa wouldn’t be able to hold on to the tail if it went for it, same reason why it let go of the gills (the reason it let go of the megs tail in the first place was explained in the video)
      Had the mosa went for the fin, it probably wouldn’t have worked either. The meg would probably just thrash around and the mosa would’ve let go just like the gills.
      “But of all of it attacks the ram at that moment was the dumbest”
      We have to remember that the mosa from JW hasn’t ever fought a large aquatic animal like the mosa. So it isn’t gonna be the smartest fighter.

      That’s what I was thinking. Goji makes a point that the mosa had better lung capacity and intelligence I really don’t see why they had it makes SO MANY tactical mistakes especially after that beautiful opening counter. I honestly just think they were biased towards the Meg since the start because this fight animation made little to no sense after about the halfway mark. Between the mosa disengaging and leaving itself open in the process to chasing the Meg into deep water where it knows it doesn’t have the advantage, to charging the Meg straight on, to chasing into even deeper water, then somehow the mosa just loses all mobility even though it was supposed to have less vulnerability’s and higher agility. The fight should have been over after the initial tail bite on the Meg since that’s it’s only means of propulsion and also the bite on the lung absolutely should have sent it over the edge especially since it immediately went into the Mesopelagic zone where oxygen is far less concentrated than it is closer to the surface. Meaning that Meg absolutely would of not come back up. Not even mentioning the fact the Meg didn’t actually ever go that deep considering it hunted in coastal warm waters.

    • @TheRicardobtc
      @TheRicardobtc ปีที่แล้ว +19

      That's also the first thing that came to mind. The shark can't breath if it's not moving, so just by holding on to the tail (or really anywhere) for a few seconds should be enough to drown it. Realisticaly what I think would happen based on real life examples is: the shark gets initiative for detecting the mosa first, and has one chance to ambush it. It either hits and kills the mosa with a single bite to the belly, or it fails and has to retreat for a second chance, at which point the mosa gets the chance to retaliate and will most likely win. I guess the animation would be too short and/or not as interesting that way.

While its main jaws are mainly used to hold and grasp onto prey, not deal quick bites. I feel like the mosa would have won at the point were it bit the gills because it would’ve used its second pair of jaws to start tearing away at the sharks gills, while the mosa would be able to hold onto and swim with the shark, while it bled out and possibly died due to the damage to its gills.

The mosa could literally chase it after biting it's tail and since the meg can't swim backwards, it would lose it's tail and literally die. The only way a meg would catch a mosa and kill it is if it ambushes the Mosasaur. The Mosa is also too smart to swim straight into the meg's mouth to be chomped on....This "fight" made the mosa appear to be dumb while it could've easily outmaneuvered and killed the Meg.

  • @motivatedpotato6604
    @motivatedpotato6604 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    As much as i love those video's this one was heavily skewed towards The Megs favour. First of all Both size measurements were taken at their lowest, biggest Meg in the second film was 75 ft long and Mosa was scaled smaller than in any of the movies shown, in the first film most of the movie mosasaurus was around 120 feet but in fallen kingdom it grew to around 180 (or 250 in some scenes) feet long, by this factor alone the battle should be won by mosasaurus, furthermore osteoderms present on the back of the mosasaurus were no issue for the Mosa to jump off and catch a flying helicopter which can fly to upwards of 173 mph, considering it wasn't clearly flying at full speed we can lower it generously to 75 mph. The amount of strength and speed needed to not only catch up but to outpace a helicopter, break through the water and jump far enough to catch it, clearly shows that mosasaurus in JW is much faster than any Meg. And about the organs, most aquatic lizards and crocodilians possess so called Integumentary Sensatory Organs (ISO's for short) which serve the same if not even greater purpose than those of sharks. They can detect changes in pressure, ph, temperature, and most importantly changes in electromagnetic signals flowing through water, which indicate like a radar prey moving through the water, they're much more sensitive than a human touch (upwards of 20,000 times more) and mostly scattered all around the animals mouth, but there's quite a number of species that possess them all around their bodies, currently we know of a specimen that had a quite generous bundle on the top of the snout, which means the mosasaurus could definitely sense The Meg approaching long before it came even close to getting a bite in, and talking about bites, the research was mostly correct although it missed a very important detail, bites are not only about bite strength. Mosasaurus didn't need a crushing bite force as it became an apex predator because of an adaption (that was clearly seen in the movies), that no shark had, second jaws in the back of the mouth and extremely wide bite thanks to a dislocatable lower jaw which means that the first bite mosasaurus took, was the last one it needed to take. There was no amount of trashing that would shake it off. And in conclusion there is no scenario in which JW mosasaurus loses this fight, real one probably, but not this one i'm sorry but that's the truth and this video is simply cheery picking to make the Meg win.

    An interesting thing to consider in this fight that wasn't covered was the actual evidence surrounding megs actual hunting strategy. Evidence suggests they were ambush predators who commonly targeted whales bu charging from underneath straight up, resulting in it ramming them, severely breaking their bones and inflicting massive damage via their bite. This would have likely been a very good strategy against the mosa who would be unable to look below them.

      @@thehale_that’s pretty much how this plays out in any of megalodon’s what ifs. Megalodon gets its opening ambush bite and everything ends right there, or it fails and is a sitting duck. The megalodon should have been finished with both the tail bite and the full bite. With one set of gills working, we’re ok. With the tail gimped, things don’t look great but we can live if we find easy prey. With BOTH? There’s only one set of gills left, and the injured tail can’t move the shark enough to feed that set of gills. Mosasaur just had to pull away and let the clock tick.

Their healing ability is remarkable, and as long as they don't lose their tail or one pectoral fin remains, they can recover pretty damn well. Also, how do you know the mosasaur is more intelligent? In reality, megalodon was probably on par with it if not more advanced, because it was a more highly evolved animal. Fossils show megalodon targeted large whales by biting off the tails and flippers first, which is something we saw a bit of in the fight. Mosasaurus could do this too, but we see it less frequently, and often only in fossils of the sea turtle Archelon, which was one of its favorite prey items.

    My thoughts on the fight really goes along with the descriptor sentence just before the fight. It really comes down to the first move of each. If the Meg gets the ambush, it wins. If the Mosa gets the first bite, especially on the tail like it did in the simulation and the Meg isn't able to thrash it off or get its own teeth in, then it's the winner. It didn't make any sense for it to let go and ram, especially considering how small the distance was after it let go, in fact it honestly would have made more sense for the Mosa to reposition it's bite since the Meg didn't move much. Based on the whole episode, I give it closer to a 60-40 for the Meg since I think the ambush is more likely to be effective but not the overwhelming victory GojiCenter is claiming.
