55 year old ARMY since 2018. Welcome to the BTS rabbit hole. One of the many things I love about BTS is that, just like punk rock, they cover a wide variety of genres and they master each one. They share their strengths and learn from each other because they don’t let their egos get in the way. I’ve been married to 2 musicians so I know how rare that is. Some of my favorites are Fire, Dope, Ma City, Am I Wrong, Save Me and Idol. I highly recommend you watch Taylor Mari’s Guide to BTS Members; The Bangtan 7 for a slightly outdated, but best introduction to the group and its members, their talents and accomplishments. They are also highly educated and very intelligent which is why their music and lyrics are very thoughtful, complex and creative. RM has an IQ of 148 and the others are also incredibly smart, we just don’t know their IQs. All have Bachelor’s degrees in Music, Dance and/or Drama and most have a Masters degree in Entertainment Business and Management and the others will finish their Masters after discharge from the military next year. The best way to really appreciate their choreography is to watch the dance practice videos. Borahae 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
He still is part of BTS... all seven of them are. They all had to do their mandatory military service in South Korea so they used this time to take a break and release solo work and finish their 18 months in the army. Jin, the oldest, just got back this past June, Jhope will be home this October, and the other 5 will be home in June 2025, then they'll be back to BTS. However, even during the first 10 years, they all released either solo mixtapes or solo songs as well as group activities.
This song is also an MJ tribute. Taj Jackson reacted to it and thanked BTS for doing such an amazing tribute to his uncle. He said MJ would have loved them. Jungkook and Jimin even did a dance performance to "Black or White".

Jung-kook is still in this group. It's difficult for western people to understand, but all of the male K-pop groups have a period of hiatus. It doesn't mean they broke up like it does when a western group goes on "hiatus".
Men in SK are required to serve in the military for about 1.5 years. When the members of K-pop groups begin this phase of their lives, the group members will either all go in together (Winner, TVXQ, ONF) or they rotate in and out in phases. BTS members left and will return in phases. Right now one is back and in the studio (Jin). While he was in, the other members worked on solo projects, and now he is doing music while they serve. But they did not break up. In fact, they pre-renewed their seven year contract before enlistment, cementing their official status as a group through 2032.
But putting out solo work did not start at enlistment. They have been releasing solo albums, mixtapes, movie and TV soundtracks, cover songs, special singles and doing collabs with outside artists pretty much since the day they started. It's nothing new for BTS to release individual works of music.

BTS remains together. They form a brotherhood that is unique in the music industry. I am 71. I know. They sincerely love & support one another. They each knocked it out of the park with their solo work, intentionly planned to help fans transition to their mandatory military service, not that they don't have other solo work om BTS albums. Don’t let their pop songs fool you. The rapline’s game is on par with some of the best rappers in the US. You can enjoy both genres. For some rap songs there are explanation videos and even BTS songs because as the lyrics move to Korean there are a lot of cultural context.
I'm glad you enjoyed this however, Dynamite, Butter, & Permission to Dance are the only 3 all English "pop" songs BTS released during the pandemic. They were meant to be happy, feel-good songs. They are not representative of the rest of their music which carry meaningful and profound messages. Their diversity in crossing over genres is what makes them unique. Especially because they're made up of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists who write and produce their own music. There seems to be a consensus that the best 3 songs to introduce the diversity of BTS to new reactors to is Mic Drop (Steve Aoki remix), Black Swan, and ON Kinetic Manifesto. I hope you are interested enough in BTS to watch all 3 so you can see how different each song is. All the individual members have solo work but always introduce themselves with their name followed by "of BTS". They have always referred to themselves as brothers and as family. I hope you continue to discover their music collectively and as individuals. I'm a new subscriber who has enjoyed your reactions to Jungkook and BTS.💜
Yea, BTS! This sound is about 1/100th of what they do. As soon as you think you have them figured out -- BOOM -- different look, genre, sound, focus, and it's all authentically still BTS 100%.

BTS was actually formed as a rap heavy hip hop group debuting in June 2013
Their catalogue runs easily over 300 deep and crosses through hip hop pop r&b edm etcetc in English Korean Japanese and konglish… of the 3 rappers, rm and Suga started as underground rappers around age 13 and jhope was a street dancer who learned to rap from the other 2….

It feels like you'd like the dance practices. If you add them on to the end of a song reaction or record then separately, we're there for it. There's really nothing quite like BTS dance practices. Choreo is usually built in, so there is almost always a coordinated choreo designed for each song.
RM- the leader of BTS- just put out a solo album called Right Place, Wrong Person which you might enjoy if you prefer rap to pop. BTS and the members cover a plethora of genres and styles.

Speaking of Fire. If you like dancing, my fave dance practices are of course the #1 Run BTS (only preformed live once and since they are the rare artist being even better live….you will be blown away) and my second fave dance practice is Fire. 💜

All of the members has solo projects. Six of them are serving the military. Only Jin, the oldest one, has already finished his duties. They all are going to be reunited in June 2025. Hugs from Brazil

This video knocked me off my feet, and I have never once looked back. BTS is truly phenomenal. They have so much music, it’s ridiculous. You need to check out the BTS Tiny Desk Concert, where they sing Dynamite live with a live band. It’s incredible, and their 70s inspired outfits are fire. And their choreography in videos such as Boy in Luv, Butter, and Black Swan is also fantastic. It’s so fun to watch a new ARMY member being born ~ and just like that, BTS has a new fan! This was Bts first song at Billboard 100 as nr 1, but the have 5 moore and 2 members also have nr 1 at Bilboard 100 Jungkook and Jimin. And Bts have 6 nr 1 Albums at Billboard 200 and are tied whid Beatles for that

If you want to get a mix of each members recent solo work plus BTS as a group, maybe you could do a song by a member and then a BTS song and switch it back and forth. Except for a couple singles, BTS's last album was 2 years ago while the 7 members do their military service and release solo music. The full group will be back making music together in 2025. If you go to the Hybe Label YT channel (you'll know you're there because they have 75 million subs), then go to the BTS Playlist and you'll see all their solo and group music videos in order. That can help you pick what you want to react to.

Hello from a 73 year old great grandma and a proud member of ARMY. After watching MIC Drop I immediately became a huge fan. Dynamite was used in a phone commercial here in the US. RM speaks English and he helped the rest of the group learn it . This was their first English single. This was released in 2020 because of the pandemic and their tour was cancelled. They have stated this was their way to uplift their fans. Also check their live performance videos when you can. Another fun video is Permission to Dance which was released, I believe, in 2021 or maybe 2022 as restrictions were being slowly lifted.

Watch the 2020 MAMA performance, especially the Dynamite dance break. Suga isn’t there, but they leave visible space for him and let the backing track fill in his parts instead of a member covering for him like they’ve done sometimes in the past.
The dance break in Dynamite is heavily influenced by Michael Jackson.
I heard you say in another reaction that you primarily listen to rap and break down bars on your channel and I was going to recommend BTS and then lo and behold, HERE THEY ARE! Dynamite is a fun English song they did mid-pandemic that is a rare example of them bringing life to someone else's song. BUT BTS was formed around three rappers who are some of the most prolific and respected lyricists in Korea. Their lyrics are the main reason that ARMY (BTS' fandom) is as big and diverse as it is because they speak to us, they resonate with us, they CHANGE us. Each of the rappers have several solo projects (RM has 4 albums/mixtapes, j-hope has 3 albums/mixtapes (one's an OST), and Suga (aka Agust-D) has 3 album/mixtapes, too). If what you said in the Pentatonix video I watched is true-that you love to listen to powerful lyrics and raps especially and you like to hear how they've moved people-I literally cannot think of a better group to react to than BTS. You will read story after story after story of people from all walks of life professing to BTS coming into their lives when they needed them most and saved them through their lyrics, through their friendship, through their humor and performance. Over and over.
The one thing I will say is that, unlike Dynamite, most of their discography is in Korean (and they have a few Japanese albums, too) so you have to rely on translations and understand that most translations won't capture the cultural nuance, the wordplay, the prose and intellect of the way they craft their bars. You can still pull a lot of meaning out of them but, until you learn Korean, you just have to kind of take Korea's word for it that RM is a poet-philosopher, j-hope is a clever, creative, cheeky, conceptual king, and Suga is a powerful truth-teller. You can find pretty good translations on a site made by the fandom called doolsetbangtan . com. They do a pretty good job of explaining some of the references and wordplay in the bars (better for some than others--as I mentioned, Suga is really direct and RM does a lot of prose so they translate over okay but j-hope leans into the flexibility of the Korean language and gives us pronoun-less, tense-less word clouds with really niche references so he's a challenge often, haha).
Anyway, I think if you dug into them, it would be great for your viewership and draw in a big audience and great for us, too, because ARMY CHERISHES reactors who are truly here for the music and value the lyricism that we all love so much. I hope you'll react to more and I recommend Outro: Tear by BTS next. It's a Rap Line song (that's what we call the three rappers together) and they wrote it when they were contemplating disbanding back in 2018 and were feeling overwhelmed with the pressure of their stardom. It also thematically fits into the album it came from: Love Yourself: Tear, which is the tumultuous part of a relationship where the partners are dealing with the grief, anger, and fear that comes from having to bury yourself and change to make something work that is falling apart in front of your eyes. I recommend a live version. They're phenomenal performers and EXCELLENT live.

FYI this is very different than American music industry. All 7 have solo careers but are also in the band. JK is very much still a member of the biggest band in the world.
As many BTS ARMY commenters have mentioned, they started out as a rap group and evolved. Every member of the group has written music but two of them, Suga and RM are prolific. Suga has written and produced songs for other artists as well. Additionally, K-Pop isn’t like pop or rock from other places. It’s very much of a piece. It isn’t just the music that is developed from the outset. It is the ability of an artist to give a complete performance. The dancing, visual aesthetic, and wide variety of ways in which they interact with fans are all part of it. (MJ really understood this in ways other American artists never did.) With all the money and international focus on K-Pop these days, I’m betting US & UK labels are starting (finally) to take notice. Korea is coming for them.

I suggest watching "Butter", their second all English song, and their fourth #1 Hot 100. It was released May 2021. This song has elements that you seem to like, including some dance. It will help you to start discerning the different members and give a small intro to the rappers of the group.
After that, tell us what direction you want to go. They have over 400 songs in their discography, in a variety of genres. ARMYs are usually pretty good at recommending songs to a particular interest.

They did these 3 pop songs in English to reach a larger audience, as they felt everyone needed a pick me up in the 2020 to 2021 when these songs were released. They did masterful performances for award shows for these songs at the end of the year if you would like to see. Other than that you maybe would enjoy to see their earlier works as they started as a hiphop group. Songs like the Cyphers, then their is MicDrop, Ugh, Ddang all rap songs, there are others but didn't want to flood your comments. My personal favorite is probably Ddang, well that is aside from the individual rappers' songs like RMs Do You or Suga's Daechwita or J-Hope's Ego. I think each of these songs represents their core ideals but the lyrics play a big part in whether you see it or not.

Jungkook has an amazing live performance called Euphoria. Look for one with ENG SUB in the title. He and BTS have a huge body of work since they have been together since 2012 and debuted professionally in 2013. JK is the main vocalist/center of the group, which goes back to when he was 14.

BTW Jungkook hasn't left he's still part of BTS they haven't disbanded, no one has left they've always do solo work before the Rappers did a lot of solo work while the Vocalist did odd songs within BTS album and outside of BTS albums for things like OST for movies and series etc.

The group has 3 rappers, RM, Suga & JHope plus 4 vocalists, Jungkook, Jin, V and Jimin. Have fun learning more about the group and their music.
If you like rap, then I suggest the newest album by RM, “Right Place, Wrong Person”which has been called one of the best album (all genres) of 2024 so far by Rolling Stone, NME, Billboard.
I came here to say everything that the other comments already say! BTS is not a boy band, they're a supergroup made up of seven guys who all have record-breaking solo careers on top of all the work they do in the group. They have always done much of the writing, composing and producing, with every single member contributing in each of those roles at different times. Definitely check out their dance practices and live stages to really see what they can do, dance-wise. Many of their songs are extremely lyrically complex and contain Korean cultural references, so there are explanation videos that are really helpful, too. (I like DKDK TV's videos.) The explanations take their songs from "Oh, this is a bop, I like it!" to "Oh my freaking god, this is art. This is genius. Who are these people?!" Anyway, welcome to the rabbit hole! 💜
suggest you watch Taylor Mari’s Guide to BTS. You will understand from that who they are and that they started and are rooted in hiphop. You need to meet the rap line.
Hi! So glad you found BTS. They are still a group and each one has solo work. Each is unique and record breaking. One of the three rappers Suga, has videos under the name Agust D. Check out Daechwita. He looked up to Eminem growing up. The other two rappers are amazing as well and write their own material. I think you would like him.
There are so many directions to go with them. Solo work, group, collabs. While the English songs are good it's the Korean songs that hit hard and some of them are the best dancers in k pop so most of their videos are visually mesmerizing. The also jump genres. Some songs have a r and b vibe, one has a Latin influence. Calling them a k pop group doesn't seem to fit because they are more. I am biased since they are my favorite. Please enjoy more of them!!

Yes of course they Rap they have 3 Rappers who are the main Song Writers the 4 vocalist also are Song Writers they just have not written as many as the 3 Rappers.
The 3 Rappers before BTS were part of the underground Hip Hop Scene RM and Suga(aka Agust D) as Rappers plus Suga was also a Producer as well and J Hope was a Street Dancer with the Street Dance Crew NEURON. When he was entered the company he was surrouned by Rappers he wanted to join in and got told Rapper writer their own lyric's so he quickly learnt to do that an after some help from Suga and the other Rappers who were there at the time they gave him some help/advice and he practiced and joined in.
Also Jungkook the youngest member of the group (vocalist) can also Rap because he was influenced a lot by RM and the other Rappers at the company.
Since you like rap, you should check out ‘Haegeum” by Agust D aka Suga of BTS. I also recommend “Ugh” by BTS. They started out as a hip hop group. The first three members were rappers: RM. Suga, and J-Hope. Mike Drop is another recommendation.

This is not a good representation of who BTS is as a group. It’s a fun pop song they released during COVID to lift spirits. The dance routine in this video is probably one of the easiest I’ve ever seen them perform. I suggest you watch “Mic Drop”, “On” kinetic manifesto film, “Black Swan” and “Fake Love”.

BTS is made up of 7 members, 3 rappers & 4 vocalists. They debuted in 2013 and unlike other groups, BTS is different. They guys see themselves as a family unit and call each other brothers. You will by now know the fandom, ARMY, and how protective we are of them. Please don’t take it personal.
In South Korea, men are obligated to serve 18 months in mandatory military service. BTS decided to take a break as a group and enlist in a way they would all be back together in 2025. No one has left the group. During this break all members worked on their solo projects. Currently one member is officially done with his service and he is now working on his solo projects. The other 6 are still serving including Jungkook also known as JK. One more member will complete his service in October and the rest will complete theirs in June of 2025.
JK has an album you should check out. It’s called Golden and all his songs are in English.
BTS is more than K-pop honestly. They offer such a mix of genre. They also have a variety show, movies of their behind the scenes of their concerts, a show about their vacations and their staycations. There is also a story line in their music videos . We are not kidding when we say that BTS is a rabbit hole you will never come out off. We love our purple world.

I think I have only seen one reactor pick up on the "Off the Wall" reference. They not only referenced Jackson in their moves but by his first solo album, as well.
Hi I like to reaction thank you for giving us our 7 a chance. This one isn't actually the best one to start out with because it doesn't give you an idea of who they are BTS is different from any other group they do everything you can never put BTS in a category this song is and a few of their English songs were put out just give everyone something else to think about other than the pandemic they are not pop. True music sometimes but they also do other types of music to did each have their own solo work as well as the group work JK didn't leave the group he is the center of the group they are all in the military still be releasing music. Since you like the rap I recommend that you watch mic drop wizard captions on so you can see the lyrics Black swan are fake love

I find the sound or something makes you a little difficult to understand at times but it sounded to me like you said Joonkook rather than Jungkook.
Jungkook is said more like Jungguk but most of use find it it easier to said like Johnkook. However JK is also a very acceptable alternative.
As for BTS well as others have said they're very much still a group and will be back together next June.
Start however you want to if you'd rather carry on and complete JK's solo work then go through each member before going onto the group discograpgy then do so (btw they have a LOT of music and other content like variety shows, documentaries etc).
I would suggest however for the group you watch Taylor Mari's Guide to the Bangtan 7 as it will give you more insight into who they are.
