Final Fantasy Type-0 is a very interesting entry into the Final Fantasy franchise, as it was a PSP-exclusive locked to Japan for a long time. It was only once Final Fantasy Type-0 HD arrived that Western audiences got to experience the game first-hand, and it brought many of us to tears!

The theme song, "Zero" by BUMP OF CHICKEN was of course created specifically for the game. The entire band had been FF fans their entire life and while they had worked on the Tales of series years prior, FF was really special to them and they felt honored to work on music for the game. Back then it was rare that global releases used the original JP theme songs, but SE kept the song in the global release of the game because BUMP OF CHICKEN pushed for it to be kept in due to how deeply the song tied into the story of the game. "Zero" is a gorgeous and iconic song for the franchise
On a related note, the lead singer/composer/writer, Fujiwara Motoo currently has covid so 🙏 hopefully he will recover well with no long lasting problems.

Honorable mention to the 13 trillogy ONLY for the music. The games aren't great but the music goes hard
Nothing against the other games, I just enjoyed these the most.
Type-0 is criminally underrated and it has no right to be rated this low, it deserves more love. It's definitively one of the better modern titles released, even if the HD port isn't the best, it's still a solid, complete experience.
Unfortunately, I disagree.
I got my hands on the JP demo many years back and fell in love with what I was able to play.
On the handheld, it's exactly what I was wanting to see in a FF game, gritty, live action.
I pre-ordered the collector's edition and was giddy when I found it was taking them, only to be crushed when I finally got to play it.
The PSP action did not translate well to a console, the story did the same mistake 13 did by hiding a lot of lore behind external reading sources, and you were not able to experience the story. The game moved on without you, and you constantly tried to keep up by learning about the world around you, instead of you being what's driving the plot
It really made you feel like you didn't mean anything in the grand scheme, and the way that the leveling system was abysmally grindy, it overall hurt the experience.
I really wanted to love this game.
It's my 3rd favorite FF, and I even cleared the Tower of Yudecca and stuff like that.
@@KaijinZSurohm i recenty watched a ff13 playthrough though and i played ff13 too.the plot of ff13 does get expliained though characters like the main villian dahsaly does explian that he was feeding the people of cocoon lies about The L'cie are monsters and that the people of pulse are monsters as well ,but they are not.the whole plot of ff13 is basically a massive black mail plot line even when lightining expalins to hope that the Fal' cie are feeding the people coddling them and brain washing the people of cocoon thinking that the very fal'cie system is a safe but it very cognition is the manplulation of cocoons man kind this very system proves even Roche the main villain army guy was being brain washed by Dahsaly the fal'cie poor sucker Roche gets manuplualated also ji'h nabaat was also a pawn to serve the mass genocide plan of the fal'cie thats why Dahsaly the fal'cie killed her off. Dahsaly's whole plan was to merge with bunovelsa the god who created ff13's omni-universe to wipe it out all life complety Yes massive omniversal Genocide.the whole plot of ff13 is basicly if Hitler was a divine god being brain washing people for mass omniversal genocide.you do not need the data logs to know the plot of ff13 since it is expalined to you.the only way to save eveyone is Ragarock.yea this all gets expalined in the main game cutsceans.no data log needed.
@@KaijinZSurohm You are cadets obeying orders. Not being the driving force throughout the plot, not being in control of your destiny is the whole theme, the point. Things like forgetting the fallen, the weird feeling of being expendable while being treasured above any other people for being the only hope, not being told vital details, yet being constantly observed and evaluated should give you the feeling of being rats in a maze which, spoilers, you are.
It rated low because you guys are blind by ps4 HD graphics.

He was looking for a cohesive group of 13 names that sounded like codenames, so he decided on playing cards. Because the name "Joker" sounded so enigmatic to him, he decided to go with that idea. This has also led to the speculation that Lean Joker was the original missing 13th member of Class Zero before Rem and Machina were created. Those two don't appear to be part of the original Agito XIII concept - which is a "fun fact most people probably don't know" of its own.

I hated type 0 when I first started playing it. Then I experimented with the other characters more and ended up actually liking it when I found ones i enjoyed playing as. The archetypes of the characters reminded me of how you could customize your party in ff5
Love Type-0, probably helps that I played the PSP version, which honestly just looks much better, higher res isn't worth as much as coheesive design (in my opinion at least.) Probably one of the better intro's as well, I really felt for that dude and his Chocobo. Also Takeharu Ishimoto made some fantastic soundtracks.

Also, my favorite fact involves Carla's final scene being a big excuse to get three of the four SOS Brigade voice actors (Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, and Tomokazu Sugita specifically. Only Daisuke Ono was left out of the scene) together, and the localized title of it being "The Melancholy of Carla Ayatsugi" being the cherry on top. Considering those actors (met Aya and got her to sign my copy in 2012!) and that show are why I got interested in T0 initially, it always warms my heart.
Also, Carla owns a great pair of legs just like most of japaneses and the characters from SOS too 🤪🙌
Final Fantasy Type 0 deserves more love and recognition. It has Takeharu Ishimoto compose the soundtrack after Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII, and he's the same guy behind TWEWY and NEO TWEWY's music! There was a time during childhood when I watched the trailer to Type 0's re-release, and young me was invested despite never getting the chance to play it. Can't remember that period, but of course I binged the franchise until playing FF7R.
probably my favorite FF game. the story is really complex and intense.
I did follow the original development of this game, when it still was part of the XIII universe (the time when XV was supposed to be versus XIII) and never thought I got to play it, played the PSP version and the PS4 version but still didn't know everything you mentioned.
There's also even more and an pair of mangas as well as an novels.
Ppl be sleeping on type 0. I damn near cried at the end of the game
Type 0 is a game I have a weird relationship with. I adore it but I can't be bothered to try to beat it. XD

FF type 0 was actually my first game on ps4. In summer 2015 when I bought the console, I was allow to pick two games with my brother getting fifa 15 and me getting Type 0. Now to be fair, I got Type 0 because it had the FF15 demo which I was highly anticipated and my parents didn’t mind me playing the game because they knew I loved Final Fantasy series but I didn’t think I was expecting Type 0 to be violent they way it was and it… kinda upset my parents😅. That first fact makes me appreciate Type 0 more knowing that it lead to the HD Remasters of Final Fantasy X/X-2 and possibly more remasters that came in afterwards
This game's so good, I wish more people played it.

One of the most mature FF games period
It's sad to know we might never have Final Fantasy Type-Next concept as a brand new game.
Really interested in seeing what materialises from 8:05. Type-0 was a game that I wanted to play for the longest time, but never had the chance to when I still had a lot more free time.
I feel like I should pitch in that Final Fantasy Agito ended up releasing as a Japanese exclusive mobile game that more or less served as a prequel to Type-0 and ended up adding quite a bit of lore. Separately, Final Fantasy Awakening was also released on mobile, but I believe the main audience was in Indonesia and China (development was outsourced to Perfect World if I recall). I played a bit of it myself and it... didn't make too much sense 😅. A chunk of FF Agito scenes have been translated by fans, though.
Anyway. Type-0 is near and dear to my heart. It's a great, tear-jerking time.
Type-0 was intimidating for ms at first because of how many characters there are and I'm like "holy sh!t that's a lot of grinding to keep them all even." Then I learned I just have to pick a handful that I'm comfortable playing that I can make good 3 people teams with and it became much more fun.
I always have Rem as backup in case I have to whip out the summons. Lol.
You don't even to do that. The arena training runs off system time. With some clock manipulation it was possible to get all characters max level.
I need to give Type-O another shot. It was one of the first PS4 games I got when I got my PS4. I didn't even realize it was a HD remake (even though it had HD in the name lol). I just saw that it was a newly released FF game and I needed some games for the PS4, also the demo for FFXV was appealing. So i played it not having a clue what i was getting into. I though it had some good parts, but I think I was missing parts of the story and I struggled with that. I thought it was OK, but it just never connected with me like I know it did with others. I'm hoping that playing it through again with proper expectations will create a better experience.
Type-0 felt like such a fever dream to me. The characters were so bizarrely written and voice acted, and the story just felt like a load of battles that go horribly wrong and you just have to let your whole party die, and then there's a big out of the blue twist and Cid is God and it's the apocalypse and then it ends 😂
Thats why it has 2 walkthroughs, in the 2nd there are new missions called Code Crimson...

I wish they’d revisit this, it was a lot of fun and the gameplay was really cool. I loved all the characters and how they played differently from one another. I’d love a sequel! There are definitely some similarities between this and XVI.
10:53 This is a little subjective. For those of us who had to wait for localized versions in our childhood, then learned Japanese and moved to Japan (in that order, as is unfortunately almost always the case) only to find out that the world had changed, it's ... well, I wouldn't necessarily say unlucky 😂
I love type 0 it was my first ff where I got the plat throphy and it's so amazing.
I had this game and enjoyed it but never finished it and traded it in for something I wanted at the time. I need to get this back lol
i love this game so much, its a real shame that Tabata left Square (Tabata also saved FF15 and made Crisis Core)
What about the controversy with fan localization of skyblade cloud team. When they are about to finish it square enix shutdown the project then one -two weeks they announce the HD remastered. Thanks to sky blade cloud team for this high quality localization,they even merged the two discs flawlessly and bugs free .
Better late than never to say you're welcome! Thanks for the appreciation. And yes, merging both discs was a really nice touch. I actually developed 3 ways of doing it, until coming up with the automatic, seamless disc-swapping used in the final patch.
I love FF Type Zero. I don't care what other says, it's one of the best FF games I have played. I fell in love with the soundtracks in FF Type Zero as well.

To be honest I only got type 0 because of the ff15 demo. I never beat it and got a couple hours in but never beat it. It was kinda fun and I always want to go back to it from time to time

Type-0 is one of the most underrated FF games in the entire franchise! I rarely hear anybody talk about it. I mean, let's be fair. Every FF fan bought the game just to play the FFXV demo. And I will admit, yes, so did I. But then I decided to give the game a chance to see was this game actually good. And by God, IT IS! I 100% the game and completed everything! The story, characters, music and everything about Type-0 was amazing! It has it's flaws, it's not perfect, but Type-0 doesn't deserve to be pushed aside and forgotten! I love this game SO MUCH, I was hoping Tabata would really do a sequel. If he didn't leave, I'm sure he would have. If you're a FF fan and haven't played Type-0, well, I won't guarantee you'll like it, but it doesn't hurt to play it. Final Fantasy Type-0 is one of my absolute favorites in the franchise! I'll never forget it!
Actually, I bought it just for it. Loved the concept from the trailer and on. It definitely stands well on its own merit and promotion, but it was wrapped up in all of the development Hell.

I find it a bit unfair that we couldn't get rated-M Versus XIII / FF XV, FF7R, but it is okay for Type-0 and 16...
Still, I hope we get another FF similar to this but fully AAA.
you're kidding yourself if you thought they ever at any time would have intended ff7r to get an m rating, they were always shooting for a t like the original. what would it add to ff7 to go for an m rating instead?
The two dragons on the cover are Bahamut and Osun (ashelia bnarghin dalmasca) the main party are their children. The universe of final fantasy is a dark and bloody place.
I remember I was so excited for the release but then it never got released in the us at the same time and I forgot about it when it released in ‘15
I never really got into Type-0 too much. Now that I remember I might still have one of the characters in that training session that goes in the background using the system time. Been a few years now. Pretty sure that one is at max level now 😅😅 maybe I check it out in some point 😉

Type-0 is probably my favorite FF game. If it isn't my favorite it's in my top 2.
Man I loved this game so much.
An interesting game to the least. It suffers however because it's lore is buried so deep that you need to dig straight into hell itself to discover it.
I doubt if people know that the entire Type-0 planet(forgot it's real name) is just Lidzei's experiment.
A reminder that FF15 is NOT part of the FNC universe. It may have been originally during its FF Versus 13 days, but the released version is in its own universe, with its own lore.

It's not a good game, there are many flaws, but somehow, it clicked with me.
I forgot about Hareisis XIII wondered what it was supposed to be still to this day.
Fact that Crisis Core came out 2007 and gets remastered in Reunion looks a lot better vs FFType0 or FFXIIIAgito 2011 remastered before XV release.

I never had played this one. Nor 15 with Noctis. I will soon enough. Hate they don't have 14 for PS3 and 11 also. It seem like it would be fun to play with Ysh'tola and Shantotto.

never got to finish type zero, there was to much characters to level up, i never understood the gameplay but that was about 8 years ago or something. i would love to give it another try

Tried to get into it on the PS4 HD version but the camera made me too nauseous. Wish it would get a Switch port since it's originally a handheld game.
I tried so hard to like it; but I just can’t play it with the camera like that. It was a terrible experience.

I do wish the game had more polish when I played it, especially because the story could have been top tier. But there were just too many characters with godawful dialogue 😂 Still went for the platinum though!
Great game, it plays like a precursor to the FFXV battle style, except the various weapons are tied to single characters. I really enjoyed it, and got to play it a bit before the hd release thanks to a really well made English patch for the psp

Just copped the game yesterday lol. I used to play it on my PSP without a translation. But I gave up 3 hrs into it.
No mention of Stranger of Paradise when talking about the age ratings? It launched this year with the same rating as Type-0 after all :P

Type zero has sat in my steam library for years. It’s the FF title im most interested in and the one I lose interest in the quickest when playing. One day I shall endure that first mission and get into the combat to enjoy the story
The port is so rough. It really deserves a small Remake that just makes playability much better. A QOL Remake

This one was wayyy to Anime-like for me to enjoy it. I wish FF would go back to the original Western inspired roots and drop the anime style that grew more and more with the series.

Anybody else hoping for the days a mainline FF releases with turn based combat? I’m personally over character action games, mainly due to them all feeling the same because of balancing difficulty. FF7R for example uses the same tires tropes of 3 hits = dead, tight timing windows, everything has super armor, cheap input reading scripting, enemies not adhering to the same rules, etc. By the middle of my second hard mode playthrough the game was falling apart for me. Why’s Cloud and friends the heroes of the world?!? They die in 3 hits! Give me a damn propeller dude, a flamethrower dude, and a Buzzsaw, I’ll save the world with them and leave the glass on the shelf.
This was perfect opportunity to called this game simply as Final Fantasy 0 (Zero)
For me it will always be my favourite Final Fantasy title,even with its flaws. I'm still playing it, yet I don't want to see the ending..I got to much attached to its characters. They didn't do justice with Type 0,,why did Square cancel Agito on mobile too I'll never know- I hope Type 0 will get a proper sequel (｡•́︿•̀｡)

It's not related to the XIII universe besides the shared mythology. It's like going from FF7 to FF8.
