For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. - Ephesians 6:12

The aerial toll house doctrine is really interesting because there's something a bit similar in tibetan Buddhism where after death a person's consciousness takes 49 days of guidance towards the new rebirth..i know, there are more differences than similarities but i made the connection because i used to be really into buddhism a couple of years ago

I’m confused, with Lazarus and the rich man it said Lazarus was instantly carried over to paradise, and even Paul said to be out of the body is to be present with the Lord. I like orthodoxy but I don’t really see anything scripturally supporting this. Are there any church fathers that agreed upon this? If so please link, this is something I wouldn’t wanna mess up on.

I am disinclined to believe in the Aerial Toll Houses. Apostle Saint Paul taught:
“Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Hi brother David. Great work. I had one question concerning Christology. I know it’s not exactly the topic of this video, but this is something I wanted to ask. I understand that there’s no created human hypostasis in Christ. There is only one person in Christ, the person of the Logos. The Logos took on a human nature, without ceasing to be Who or What He was, prior to the incarnation. And part of Jesus’s humanity included a rational human soul. And I understand that the Logos is still a person to Jesus’s human soul, because His human soul was still a conscious entity, when He went to Sheol to preach to the spirits locked up in prison. My question is, does Jesus have a waking human consciousness, as an extension of His rational human soul? Jay Dyer affirms the teachings of Saint Cyril, that the Logos is the sole subject of all of Christ’s actions. But what I want to know, is if Jesus possesses layers of consciousness as a human, can speak of Him having a waking human consciousness, distinct from His divine, subconscious mind? Or am I completely wrong on that? I’m just trying to understand the best way to both think of it, and describe it. Thanks again for all the work you do!

I do not find the aerial toll houses edifying. I also don’t see it taught in the Scriptures. If repentance is only possible while we are alive, what power could demons have over us after we die? Why would God allow demons to even accuse us?

I'm trad Catholic and I am considering Orthodoxy (negative reasons about the Catholic Church plus very positive reasons about Orthodoxy) - but listened to one of your vids today (i normally enjoy) in it you referred to a Catholic saint (from context it seemed to be St Margaret Mary Alacoque ) as a 'retard', is it really appropriate and a good advert for Orthodoxy to refer to a nun who is revered by millions of Christians as a saint in this way? it certainly pushed me away from Orthodoxy by a few inches.

Perhaps ‘retard’ isn’t a great word for it, but do consider this: does what someone online says ultimately matter ? I don’t mean that to belittle, but rather to reassure you that life is a lot better when we don’t let opinions of strangers online get to us. I’ve been guilty of this in the past so I don’t say that out of a lack of understanding, but rather as someone who’s fell into that trap repeatedly

Areal toll houses teaching is very controversial, and it's not a dogma.
40 days ? St. John Chrysostom wrote that a soul is taken immediately and it doesn't wander around for any period of time.
ATH teaching contradicts the Orthodox Soteriology. How can you reconcile ATH with the Orthodox teaching of Theosis?
How can you reconcile ATH with Paschal Homily of St. John Chrysostom?

Also, please read the lives of the saints. The toll houses are referenced on many occasions in different saints' lives.
Not to mention that every recent elder and saint (that I've read) who has ever mentioned them has affirmed them or even confirmed them by being allowed to see other people's souls rising and having to encounter these demonic beings.
