    "The setting of the Sun was delayed, a wound cuts deeper into humanity" - This is a direct reference to the Linking of the Fire, which caused the Age to extend well beyond it's natural end, and the undead curse, which grows worse over time, and seeps Humanity.

      In this case 90% of souls lore is one hell of a zebra requiring insane levels of details and scouring to find so when a horse is dropped in his lap like this one he started looking for stripes.

    " The setting of the sun was delayed
    a wound cuts deep into humanity"
    My interpretation is different and more simplistic:
    The sunset is the time when the light of the sun gives way to dark. In DS, the flame fading is the sunset. The delay was the sin of Gwyn, preventing the light to extinguish. The result was the eternal torment of mankind. Like a wound that never heals.

    "the setting of the sun was delayed"= Gwyn prolongs the age of fire
    "a wound cuts deeper into humanity"= by prolonging the age of fire Gwyn denies the age of humanity and curses humanity with the curse on top of that.

    • @snowandmusic
      @snowandmusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Wait, if that was the case then doesn't that mean that Astoran's KNEW about Gwyn linking the fire?
      so the Astoran's came to even engrave this information into their swords, as if they were silently trying to spread knowledge, right?
      Correct me if I'm wrong but could it be that Astora's ruin was a way of silencing them forever?

    • @Zadamanim
      @Zadamanim 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@snowandmusic It sounds to me like Astora were humans that worshiped the gods. Im sure a knight like Solaire would gladly sacrafice himself to extend the age of the gods, in service of the lord of sunlight. Perhaps on the other hand, Solaire wad a traitor to Astora, seeking instead to abandon the Lord of Sunlight and "find his own sun." The rest of Astora was sacraficed, while Solaire was the lone survivor.

    • @osurpless
      @osurpless 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Snow and Music Possibly, but the ruin is said to have been caused by the Soulfeeder/creature mentioned on the Ring of the Evil Eye.
      Regardless, the beast was eventually killed, so as there were survivors (many individuals throughout the trilogy) seemed like an odd way to silence a nation.
      I also seem to recall something about Ludleth of Courtland having something to do with the Soulfeeder, but his wiki entry doesn’t mention it. Can anyone clarify?

    The runes on the Astora Sword could be a reference to Gwyn's sin of not letting the flame die out. The setting of the sun is meant to be the end of the era of the gods and therefore the beginning of the era of men. By sacrificing to the First Flame Gwyn (the Sun of the era of gods) delayed the coming of the Dark Age. The wound cutting into humanity is the curse that got inflicted by this sin and the suffering humans must endure from it.

    • @osurpless
      @osurpless 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carlub The curse was caused by the branding of Humanity by Gywn in ancient times, either during or after the War with the Ancient Dragons.
      So regardless of when, it’s long before the rubbish about linking the flame claim was spread as any kind of solution to the undead curse.

    • @osurpless
      @osurpless 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carlub Humanity is not in the same form (a fleeting form) as in the beginning of Dark Souls, yet they were still called that, as the Locusts and several other characters mention throughout the Ringed City DLC.
      Also, the Furtive Pygmy as more than an individual who claimed the Dark Soul is kind of ambiguous after Part I, as while an ancestor of humanity, the direct descendants in the Pygmy royalty were granted the Ringed City shortly after the War as a “reward”.
      And yet, the guards within are branded (Seal of Fire) like humanity, so we can surmise they themselves are humans, and have a similar stature. It’s an odd jumble indeed.

    • @jafaral-z1090
      @jafaral-z1090 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Carlub a metaphor for how humans would build a new kingdom, yes, but the fire being rekindled is considered a blessing so the runes on the astora straight sword make no sense- because they still believe in rekindling which confuses me because I made the same observation

    • @jafaral-z1090
      @jafaral-z1090 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Carlub it definitely has the potential to be, I guess there were some people who despised the gods or didn't believe they cared, but I feel like such an insightful person would be an npc to show this clearly, like the dark serpent (forgot his name, kingseeker Manus?) but less malevolent- by ds 2 we already knew that the fire was bad and that it feeds the cycle surely not just the bearer of the curse realised this

    "The setting of the sun was delayed, a wound cuts deeper into humanity"
    I'd say this is an acknowledgment of a refusal to let the age of darkness begin and that's interpenetrated as a continued and acknowledged attack against age of darkness in the associated form of 'Humanity'.

  • @georgiosgiannoukas3319
    @georgiosgiannoukas3319 4 ปีที่แล้ว +164

    I'm pretty sure "The setting of the sun was delayed, a wound cuts deeper into humanity" just talks about how the age of fire has been forcefully perpetuated. "The setting of the sun" meaning the end of the age of fire and "the wound cuts deeper into humanity" meaning humanity suffers more and more with each cycle as they can't enter the age of dark because they keep linking the fire.

      Quite fitting if you ask me.
      The very first friend we encounter in a Dark souls game, could be referencing the last of our enemies on the final Dark souls game (Ringed knights).
      Since there is a literal wound cut deep into humanity, the first of our kind, into the pigmies.
      Those who bear the fire seal cast in their carved in chest have a wound that will not heal, for it was never meant for it to heal.

    • @snawsomesauce2866

      This seems like the most likely answer but honestly I'm not 100% convinced, because from what we've seen it seems like Astora was a place that wholeheartedly worshiped the gods and believed in linking the fire. Maybe it was made after the fall of the kingdom? I could see Astorans becoming disillusioned

    If you ask me the quote is talking about Gwyn continuing the age of fire and linking humanity to the rekindling of it.
    “The setting of the sun was delayed.”
    Gwyn prevented the age of Dark from overtaking the Age of Fire and caused a “wound” to cut deeper into humanity.

    • @ryancarter9270
      @ryancarter9270 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree, but it's interesting because you would think that Astora would want to rekindle the fire. But then again, isn't there cut-content where Oscar seeks to become Lord of Hollows?

    • @thatpurpleash
      @thatpurpleash 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This exactly. Its referencing the fact that Gwyn cut deep into Humanity by delaying the inevitable end of the Age of Fire. This caused the Curse of the Darksign, the branding of humans into Undead. If Gwyn had simply let go and allowed the natural cycle to move forward, such a wound would've never been made upon humanity. This is further backed by all the fact that Gwyn marked the human knights with the darksign on their armor as well, a sign of perpetual servitude to the Gods of Anor Londo.

    • @PhantomJavelin
      @PhantomJavelin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ryancarter9270 Well, in cut content Oscar does the opposite of whatever you want to do, so if you choose to become Lord of Hollows, he'll say...
      "So it was you. I had a feeling... I shall destroy you as fate has commanded me. Foolish pawn of Darkstalker Kaathe... and Fiendish Dark Lord."

What is even more incredible is the active comunity doing all of this together, like you pointed out at number 10: someone finds something, other guy catches up onto it and a week later the story unfolds. Have you ever noticed when fighting emma after staying loyal to Owl, that when you break her posture by goomba-stomping her and doing a deathblow from above, sekiro is 'very gentle' with her and lowers her head to the ground with care? The normal deathblow is famous for being quite merciless, I don't understand why there is this big thematic difference between the two

    The text on the Astora Straight Sword at 12:30 reminds me of the fading of the First Flame, and Gwyn kindling it to keep it alive, delaying the setting of his radiant glory, his own sun. The wound being cut deeper into humanity, then, probably refers to, like you mentioned, the hollowing that comes after death, with the deep wound of losing someone you love being cut deeper as they new quite possibly can rise from the dead. I can only imagine how horrific that might be to witness.

    For those interested in having some more information before making a purchase, a Glossy finish will make the bright colours of such a piece really pop whereas a Matte finish would allow you to really take in the details and add to the depth of the piece. Many Displates benefit from one or the other but with this piece being so vibrant AND detailed there are merits to both. If you want to get the most mileage out of your money the most cost effective size to buy for the amount of surface area relative to the other sizes is Large. For such a detailed piece I would also recommend not going smaller than Large, unless of course only Medium fits within your budget.
    XL technically gives you the most surface area per dollar of the 3 but for the price increase between it and Large it provides diminishing returns in surface area per dollar compared to the jump between Medium and Large (L is an extra 7.25cm²/USD, L to XL is only an extra 3.45cm²/USD)(calculated with Canadian shipping, Matte finish and no Frame).
    Edit/Transparency: Planning to get a Large myself. lol

    - The moonlight butterflies that rest/fly around the giant crystal lizard - which itself is part of the arcitecture
    - Also that everything is resting in a lordvessel which, in turn, is resting on very enormous roots

    To me, the austora straight sword text "the setting of the sun was delayed, the wound cuts deeper into humanity" sounds kind of like a summery of the entire dark souls story.
    The setting of the sun was delayed: The age of Dark was prevented by the kindling of the first flame. again and again the time for the fire to fade came, and again and again, it was pushed back.
    The wound cuts deeper into humanity: The age of dark is never allowed to come, humanity is born of the dark. the age of humanity is never allowed. With every kindling of the flame, more undead, more hollows appear. Delaying the age of dark is only making humanity suffer.

    Vaati, if you consider the cut line of dialogue from if you kill the blood minister npc from where he says "It doesnt matter if I die, it's your night mare." That insinuates everywhere in blood borne is a dream just like the hunters dream, and like we saw from the cut second moon presence fight, where you assumed it may have been the moon presence's awake physical form, that would also if we did a bit of assuming mean that Ebrietas is asleep, and like the moon presence's dream "the hunters dream" keeps the old hunter trapped there. Ebrietas has their dream yarhnam. Which brings us to the next line, where he mentions everyone in the mud once Ebrietas awakes, meaning when they awake, the dream ends. This however would mean that the bloodminister npc at the start would have kinda been the only one aware of this, which leaves me to believe that it was cut to make the story at least a little less convoluted. But considering every other interaction with a great one in blood borne is in a dream... is it really such a stretch?

    Hi vaati recently I read a curious theory about the child painter, "Aria", which says that she may be connected to the primordial serpents, due to her serpentine tracts like the eyes which look a lot like the ones that frampt and kaathe have. And also in the dialogue where she referrers to a Mother, with capitol letter, it's possible she is referring to a person who helds this name like a title (maybe Velka?) , like Father Ariandel or the Sister of the Sable church, so it's possible that the two people in the statue in both Ariamis and Ariandel may be velka and "Aria".

    I've been thinking; What if Demon's/Dark Souls is just a Great One's nightmare within Bloodborne?
    Let's take a look at the similarities:
    Brought about by a powerful religious leader's pursuit of immortality
    Frozen in time and unchanging
    Deeper layers that go farther back in time
    Madness (FREE SPACE)
    Spacial anomalies (fishing hamlet, invisible bridges near seath)
    *The Abyss*
    But here's the kicker: Permanent day or night and regeneration-based immortality for all, not just for a chosen individual, both of which return to the natural cycle when a god-like entity is put to rest.
    The Old One from Demon's souls is a Great One, and the fuel source of the first flame. As long as it continues to burn, it stays asleep and therefore humanity is allowed to die.

    • @nackskott12

      This definitely makes sense for Demons Souls and Bloodborne. Both of those games are heavily influenced by Lovecraft, and in his writings Azathoth is a “blind idiot god” that is responsible for dreaming up our universe, and if it were to wake up, our reality would vanish in an instant. Makes perfect sense when you consider the Old One in Demons Souls - a big, unintelligent being that is only a threat to humanity when it's awake. The equivalent in Bloodborne is Oedon. Azathoth is described as constantly shifting, and that it has no set appearance, and Oedon is supposedly “formless.”
      One thing I don't see mentioned though is how the Old Monk in Demons sounds like a potential reference to The King In Yellow, a collection of short horror stories that greatly inspired Lovecraft. Yellow was so prominent in The King In Yellow because the colour was classically linked to rot, decay and illness. If you think about how gold and yellow items are linked to Latria (the Gold Mask, Golden Garb etc), there's a lot of things you can read into.

    • @Blackhawk211
      @Blackhawk211 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @NotPork
      @NotPork 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Blackhawk211 It's possible, but Mergo, Orphan of Kos, and the moon presence seem to have much more influence over dreams, whereas The Old One kinda just makes demons. I'm sure soulsborne has an Azathoth equivalent though.

    • @Blackhawk211
      @Blackhawk211 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NotPork Well the closest equivivent to actual Lovecraft entities is;
      The great one = Cthulhu
      Moon presense = Nyarlathotep
      And I guess Oedon could be Yog Sothoth due to the whole formless thing
      I dont think there is an Azathoth in Soulsborne
      Plus there is the notorious dual timeline theory that states that Demons souls was a catalyst from which (depending on the ending) either Dark souls or Bloodborne begins.
      If you lulled the Great one to sleep it leaves the world shrouded by fog. Which is how the Dark souls timeline begins.
      If you destroy the Great one, the magic of using Souls disapears, hundreds of years pass and people discover the children of the great one and with that, they discover the power and addiction of blood

    • @NotPork
      @NotPork 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In terms of the Astora Straight Sword, I'd theorize that the text "The setting of the Sun was delayed, a wound cuts deeper into humanity" is likely in reference to the end of the Age of Fire coming to an end. The wound cutting deeper into humanity is when the player links the fire, causing further delay to the inevitable Age of Men (or Age of Dark) as referenced in the first game. If this were the case, that would provide a further explanation as to why Oscar had travelled to the Undead Asylum in Dark Souls 1: he could not bear to see the setting of the sun be delayed further, and would risk his life to see the Age of Men come about. This might even provide an explanation for his cut role in the game, as we know that he sides with Kaathe at the end of the game and will challenge you. Perhaps because the player chose to link the fire, he thought to take matters into his own hands?
    I know this is the inscription on the Astora Straight Sword from Dark Souls 3, but the entire theme of that game is that the worlds are colliding together. It would not surprise me that an old Astoran Straight Sword with such an inscription exist even in a cycle so seemingly long after the first game.

    Definitely unintended, but the Painted World displate can also represent elden ring via the giant tree at the top. a hilarious in hindsight moment.

    "The setting of the sun is delayed, a wound cuts deeper in humanity" it's talking about how every time the age of dark is delayed, humans suffer the most, as is seen with the bleeding eclipse at the end of DS3.

    Here's all the secrets I've found so far in the Displate, in order of game (I unfortunately have not played demon souls, so I won't try to find those).
    PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU WANT TO FIND THEM ALL YOURSELF.
    Dark Souls:
    1. The bottom right portion of the city seems to be based on undead burg, due to the arching bridges and the Bell of Awakening cathedral that can be found near the bottom.
    2. Over one bridge is the Bridge/Hellkite wyvern breathing fire upon the bridge. Classic Darksouls.
    3. The entire city is built upon a giant crystal lizard. Possibly also referencing the amount of sacrifice it takes for the world of Darksouls to prosper.
    3. The lizard's forehead has a faded darksign, the mark of the undead. It also seems to have a line under it, as seen in dark souls 3 near the end.
    4. A windmill can be seen near the elbow of the lizard, it probably is the Earthen Peak windmill from dark souls 2, which also appears toppled in the ringed city dlc in dark souls 3.
    5 Everything sits in what seems to be a large bowl held up by trees. The bowl's rim has runic carvings along it's entirety. My best guess for this is that it is the lord vessel.
    6. A large wolf can be seen standing above the doorway at the end of the protagonist's bridge. This is likely sif. (Also maybe a reference to the cleric beast, who jumps down from above a gate to fight you on a bridge.)
    ?7? Sif seems to be standing on the upper portion of a chest with a cartoonish tongue coming out it's left side, so it could be a giant mimic.
    8. A winged demon can be seen in the bottom right holding a staff with a ring on it, likely referencing the demons who carry you to Anor Londo in Darksouls and the Ringed City in DS3.
    9. On the left in the background Everlasting archtrees can be seen.
    10. Looking at the title of the piece itself shows it is called the Painted World, referencing the location of the same name in Darksouls 1 and 3.
    11. Near the Hellkite wyvern is Solaire parsing the sun to the left, and a silver knight archer to the right.
    12. Right before a torii gate on the center pathway, two mushroom people can be seen standing holding hands.
    BloodBorne:
    1. The upper right portion of the city is based on Yharnam.
    2. The giant lantern hanging next to Yharnam either represents the lanterns the hunters use throughout the game, or the lanterns filled with incense to keep the beasts away.
    3. Next to Yharnam can be seen giant pillars, which can be found in the hunters dream in bloodbrone.
    4. Behind Yharnam is a second smaller red moon. In blood borne this is the pale blood moon which is revealed upon Rom's death.
    5. A shadowy messenger with a top hat is looming above Yharnam.
    6. In Yharnam are a few recognizable buildings, but I'll only point out the Astral clocktower, which I feel is the most important one to mention.
    7. In the clouds next to Yharnam are boat sails, which can be found in both the Nightmare Frontier and the Fishing Hamlet.
    8. The moon seen above the large tree has stars within it, referencing more general themes in bloodborne's lore.
    ?9? There are bird like formations under Yharnam. (You can tell from the beaks and wings). I can't tell wether these represent the chalice dungeons, the crows found through out the game (including Eileen the crow), or just the strange cosmic nature of the game. Maybe its a reference to Velka from Darksouls, but considering it's right under Yharnam it seems like a stretch.
    ?10? This may just be the art style, but the trees in Yharnam seem to turn into tentacles, especially further back in the city. Possibly a reference to how not everything is as it seems in that city.
    11. In Yharnam between buildings, an Amygdala can be seen.
    12. Behind Yharnam is a ball with eyes, possibly the Brain of Mensis
    Sekiro:
    1. The uperleft portion of the city is Ashina, which can be seen from its red Japanese architecture.
    2. The great serpent can be seen coiling through the city, sticking its head out the bottom left of the city. The tail end of the snake can be seen coiling around Ashina castle.
    3. Ashina castle can be seen at the top of Ashina, where numerous boss fights take place. It is also where Kuro and Isshin resides most of the game.
    4. Under Ashina is 4 humanoid statues, one has a monkey tail which leads me to believe they are the four folding screen monkeys. They don't look exactly the same, but the second from the bottom is making a similar pose to the one that uses eyesight to flee you.
    5. Behind Ashina castle is a large Sakura tree, which is very important in Sekiro. In the actual game they appear in Mibu village and the Fountainhead palace. There was one in Ashina but it was vandalized/destroyed. This could be saying this is Ashina before the game begins, or it's just referencing the tree's in general.
    6. Above the place are a few flying objects, one is a big red balloon. May also be a reference to the winner of the VattiVidya art contest for Sekiro, the hand of the rising sun.
    7. Smaller things can be seen above Ashina castle, which I believe are the kite ninjas that very aggressively dive towards you as you make your ascent up the castle.
    8. Near the bottom of the center path, a torii gate can be seen.
    9. In Ashina is a waterfall, and jumping over it is the giant Koi fish.
    Mix:
    1. The moonlight great sword in the center, representing not just these games but the company itself. (Appears as a weapon from cutting off Seath's tail in DS1, is found as a fake in DS2 and can be truly made from the Oldpale Drake's soul with is Seath's soul, and can be made from the soul of Oceiros in DS3, who also followed Seath's teaching to a degree. It is used by Ludwig in the old hunter's Dlc in blood borne. It also makes less famous appearances in other games such as Armored Core)
    2. The protagonist has equipment from every game, the weapon seems to be the dragon slayer spear (dark souls), the helmet has two points coming off each side of the hear indicating they are a hunter (blood borne), and they are wearing flowing robes (Sekiro). They also wield a torch, fitting for the cold bridge, but also a torch weapon is found in every game.
    3. The bridge the protagonist is traveling on is likely meant to be the bridges found in the painted world of dark souls, but could also be the bridge the snake in Sekiro attacks you on.
    4. Trees and Dragons have a strong connection in both Darksouls and Sekiro. In Sekiro the Divine Dragon literally is a tree and wields a giant sword, so that is likely it's main reference. In dark souls the world started as an ashen land with only everlasting dragons and archtrees. Since that is where the world began, it makes sense for a dragon-like tree to be in the center.
    5. Just an interesting note, but trees are a recurring object throughout this art and the games. Darksouls - Archtrees, Sekiro - Sakura trees, Bloodborne - You fight Gherman under a large tree, Demon Souls -the old one looks like a giant living tree. There's also numerous smaller and less important examples, but those are the one's I think deserve the spotlight.
    Things I saw but don't know what they are:
    1. On the bottom left side of the picture in the trees is a strange symbol.
    2. In undeadburg is a waterwheel.
    3. under the water wheel is a path leading to a small simple house.
    4. To the right of Ashina castle is a tall tower. It is likely from Sekiro, but I can't quite place what it is.
    5. The top right shows the moon breaking. My best guess is this is the shattering of the illusion in bloodborne, but that's only a guess.
    6. I'm assuming the bottom right portion of the city is from demon souls, but any references there are sadly lost for me as I have not played it.
    Thats all I could find, if you guys see anything else, please let me know.

    “The setting of the sun was delayed, a wound cuts deeper into humanity”- could it be a reference to the rekindling of the first flame? The longer the light of the gods continues, the more the age of dark, the rule of mankind, is pushed further back?

    "The setting of the sun was delayed"
    = The end of the Age of Fire was subverted
    "A wound cuts deeper into humanity"
    = The dark sign, and the curse of undeath, which manifests as a deep weeping wound-like mark
    Or at least that was my immediate interpretation upon hearing the translation.
