she wasn't mad, her husband wanted her throne and then her father, when her son came to power he kept her locked up because he wanted to rule Spain and the throne was hers by right. i think she consented in the end to him ruling in her name.

my point is any men was out of the power, becasue some mental illnes...think in Ivan The Terrible or Henry VIII ....she had too much power to a woman in those times

but you have to think that Juana never was candidte to succed her mother, she had two sibling before her ( Juna and Isabel) in the line of succesion and the Spain politics in those times was obtain allies by marriages..and Mary and Elizabeth weren`t married during their father reign because he wasn`t potential enemies in his possibles sons in law...not because Elizabeth were smart..if he fater had want married her, she couldn`t do anything

If Joanna was mad, it may be because of genetics. Remember, royal families married cousins and all that inbreeding could cause mental instability.

+khfan4life365 that happens in all the royal families...do you consider the psychopathic behaviour of Henry VII sane? certainly not...but because he was man anybody dare declare him mad and put his daughter mary in his place.,..with joanna was more easily because was a woman..

Fabio Rodriguez Henry VII wasn't entirely sane, like most of the royals of that time. It also didn't help that they were paranoid of usurpers. If, a big if, Joanna was crazy, she probably had a breakdown from losing her husband, the only man she loved, and paranoia was a common theme in the royal families. From what I read, Joanna went crazy with grief from losing her husband and she carried his coffin everywhere. That's probably why people think she's crazy. She might have been but we'll never know because they didn't have psych experts like we do now.

she married Phillip when she was only 16 years old , he abused psychologically and physically . she was far from all that gave security to her and was knew , his family, his country , language , etc ...
she was abused for almost ten years since was a teenager. Then as it happens to all victims of domestic violence, ends depending on their abuser. he hide the letters he sent his parents, when he reaches to Castile was responsible for putting all the nobility against her to take her power , her father abandoned, left her absoluty alone, and then the object of his love dies , and she just decides to fulfill the last will of Felipe .... be buried in Granada , when his mother died , there was also a courtship that lasted weeks and no one doubted the mental health of those who did....think..I think she was more sane that the history tells about her
