First of all, I agree with you on how annoying it was that Tigger was so oblivious to the damage he kept doing to Rabbit’s garden. Poor Rabbit 😄 Second, if I had to peg people I know as Winnie the Pooh characters, now I can’t help but picture you as Rabbit 😂 Another fun video, as always!
Not only are we seeing the booktube renaissance come true, but we are also getting the return of the 5-star strumpet... what a TREAT!! Happy to hear that Voice of War was a hit for you, I hope you enjoy the sequels! And colour me not surprised that A Man Called Ove hit so hard for you, it really touched me how you talked about that book ❤ Also, YES Auggie was infuriating 🥲🤣
This is like Christmas! 🎄I loved your Tigger impression and the pushing and pulling bit 😂! Warlord and Keeble’s narration are PHENOMENAL! The Library Ladder did an in-depth Arthur retelling video, and he placed Warlord at the very top next to Mary Stewart’s Crystal Cave. So there you go, an Arthur retelling expert agrees with us about Warlord Chronicles.
What a great wrapup! Loved The Warlord Chronicles (though I agree about the magic in Excalibur, plus the fact that some things about Derfel becoming a Christian didn't made sense to me -- as if Cornwell figured it out later on in the series, so it didn't transpire at all in the first two books). Enemy of God is still my favorite, followed by Winter King. 👌 I also read A Man Called Ove. I had my issues with some elements of the story (the humor was off sometimes, but maybe it was my French translation 😅 but I still laughed most of the time), but still teared up by the end. I admire authors that are able to blend humor and grief so well. The Sacred Band is on my TBR! Funnily enough, I thought it was a novel because of the website I found it recommended on, but now learning it's actually non-fiction pleases me even more. Especially recommended by you! Can't wait to get to it as I'm passionate about the period leading to the Hellenistic era.
Keeble! YASSSS! I still need to get Excalibur on audio via the library to finish the trilogy, but man I don't know how it could top Enemy of God. I occasionally still think about how much I hate Lancelot.
I'm glad that you connected with A Man Called One as deeply as Christina did. I finished the Black Company series, reading Soldiers Live, and I also continue the City Watch sub-series, reading Men at Arms, in August (literally those were the first and last books that I read in August!), so August was--as the kids say--a banger month. In September, even though I read Feet of Clay, my standout books of the month were The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind, and A Sunny Place for Shady People (collection) by Mariana Enriquez.
4 5 star books let's goooooo!!!! That is the best yasssss!!!! I KNEW you would like 3 body problem- KNEW IT! Boy, I love being right hehe. I thought the show was fine, but it wasn't the same as the book, and the books are objectively better- BUT!- at least we get more big-budget scifi, which is great. Auggie was my biggest gripe, holy moly! What a lovely edition of threadlight! I have never seen that edition before, how lovely >D< Jonathan keeble is such a wonderful narrator, definately in the top ten for me, though my favorite prformance has to be Rosamund Pike's narration of Dragon Reborn- so freaking good!
Hey there my friend. Two videos from the Library of Allenxandria this week? A magnanimous despot. In August and September I would have to say the hghlights were The Art of the Ghost of Tsushima and Snow Country Tales. Happy Reading!
I read the Warlord Chronicles in March/April of this year and I’m STILL thinking about it. It makes me so happy when people mention it. Glad you had some good reads!!
Experiencing readathon burnout. Good Dogs was a fun horror. A few good thrillers this month. Lies I Taught in Medical School was a 4-5 star. I think the most engaged/interested I’ve been is a buddy read with a friend about the Schrödinger equation … because it’s challenging. I’m glad you’re finding books you enjoy. I wrote down a couple. Thanks. Tigger. Funny. Hope you have a nice weekend, back to work.
Read Canticle for Liebowitz and it was...depressing. Almost done with Wizard by Wolfe and am ready for it to be done It was good but the mood has passed. Will see if the 5th time is the charm to make it to the second paragraph in Gormengast. If not, maybe some Gemmell, Mark Lawrence or a reread of Thomas Covenant.
Its a children's book, which surprises me given some of the themes but you might like goodnight Mr Tom given the Ove rating. Also the only book I've finished recently was Augustus, I enjoyed it more this time I think I had more understanding of a lot of the other characters, a 5 star definitely
Many of your peers said that you were done. Cooked. Washed up. Didn’t have the follow through to make a comeback. Where are these people now? Augie is the worst. Arms always crossed smh
Three Body Problem. Here on TH-cam someone uploaded the Chinese adaption of the show. WAY better then the Netflix one. You just have to be okay with subtitles.
I actually just had a delivery of the Warlord Chronicles, Mr Influencer. The only King Arthur book I've read is The Mists of Avalon, and all in all, that one sucked more than it sparked joy. You go in expecting swords and sorcery (literally), and what do you get? 800 pages of moaning about fertility issues. I get that it's a big thing for a queen. But that doesn't make it interesting.
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria I have (on multiple occasions) recommended A Place of Greater Safety, which is Hilary Mantel tackling the French Revolution. Keeble has also done a couple of Lavie Tidhar's books (the same author as By Force Alone and The Hood). He's also read a decent amount of non-fiction history books.
I definitly belong in the camp that loves «The Warlord Chronicles» (especially book 1, «The Winter King», easy 5 stars!)...except for «Enemy of God», sorry! I do not buy the hype for that one (I will be kind, 3 stars), though «Excalibur» is a good landing indeed (4 stars)! In August I finished Part 1 & 2 of «To Green Angel Tower» by Tad Williams (Epic Fantasy, final «novel(s)» in the «Memory, Sorrow & Thorn Trilogy» , book of the month for August), Michael Moorcock’s «The Warlord of the Air» (Multiverse Time Travel Steampunk? 😅), and «The Thousandfold Thought» (Epic Dark/Grimdark Fantasy, the final novel in the «Prince of Nothing» Trilogy, Dark Epic/Grimdark Fantasy) by R. Scott Bakker! In September I read three Rosemary Sutcliffe novels: 2 YA Historical Fiction Novels, «The Silver Branch» & «The Lantern Bearers» (set in Ancient Britain during the Late Roman and the Roman Withdrawal & Saxon Invasions, respectively) and an Arthurian Historical Fiction novel, «Sword at Sunset», all loosely connectied to each other following a family over generations, with the POV character of «The Lantern Bearers» as a mentor figure and his son one of Arthur’s companions in «Sword at Sunset». I also finished «Sword in the Storm» («Rigante» series #1) by David Gemmell (S&S/Heroic Fantasy, inspired by Celtic Britain and the Roman Invasions), «The Eternal Champion» by Michael Moorcock (Multiverse S&S/(Anti-?)Heroic Fantasy) and «Lustrum» (US: «Conspirata», «Cicero»-Trilogy #2) by Robert Harris (Historical Fiction about the Roman Statesman), that one or «Sword in the Storm» might be my Book of the Month!
Pompeii by Robert Harris has been my best 5 star strumpet so far. And thanks to that glowing review I might jump Ove up on my list. Are you gonna watch the Tom Hanks movie with Christina?

Skullface Boy and Midnight Tides for me.
