      Chad you can always sand the paint by hand with 400 to 600 grit until you get back to the floor then add the vinager to get the rusty look you are looking for!! 🥹😁👍

      Perfect the air will hold the tire in place. Or maybe just tack weld the wheel to the fender.

Me and my son watch the show every day for a long time. You guys aré the real deal. Cheers from Patagonia Argentina.

    Man I love your content, The Chat though has too much negativity. You would think by now that the followers would know that you are a professional and can think things through on the fly. You are an inspiration to all of us who watch to learn new things. I am 71 and still building Rods . Plan on starting another this spring if the wife don't object to much. You and Jolene are the best, keep it up and never give up. As always great camera work Jolene. I hope Chad finishes the Bugatti soon, you deserve it. Thanks for reading.

    Would have been better to make a tire sized cardboard circle, and trim that to the profile of the fender. You’d get to see exactly where the slot should be positioned before cutting.

    Hey Chad, really like your work.
    I recently painted a bike tank to look old and used.
    If you don't mind, I would like to give you a tip for worn, distressed patina paint.
    Use some carpet foam cleaner to cover a few spots before painting.
    After that wipe it away and take some rags or towels soaked in vinegar.
    Put some salt over a few spots, cover them with the vinegar towels and let them sit for a couple of hours to days.
    When the rust is to your liking, take a brass or steel brush and have some fun in different spots. Randomly Cover it with some carpet cleaner foam and paint again.
    The finished piece will look distressed.
    Keep that artistic work going.
    Best regards from Germany.
    Have a good one 🤙🏼

I'm getting ready to start working on a 65 Buick Skylark 2dr hdtp sports coupe.. Going with a blown big block buick on 29-10.50r15s. Custom paint and audio. Haven't decided yet on suspension kit. The color of the Hudson was called Ocean Blue. You can find the different color mix info on the color charts. Most Hudsons used 4 different color paints to make the final color including Ocean Blue. Sidemounts are a great addition. Most sidemounts sit with the exposed part of the wheel a few inches above the centerline of the wheel. So a little less than half the wheel is inside the fender but it depends on how deep the fender is. Also to achieve this they mount them close to the door opening so door can still open and have them sit back in fender to stay clear of front wheels. Your opening width is not enough to clear the tire with air in it.

    Normally, the tops of the sidemounts should be no higher than the beltline mouldings. If you make them level with the top of the hood, they will be too high and will look odd.

    • @JoshB-jt7xe
      @JoshB-jt7xe ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's the problem with the Terraplane compared to the Hudson Eight, the sidemounts were too high due to the shorter front guards not leaving space for the sidemounts to be mounted lower down because they'd get too close to the front tire.

    • @cristianabarsuglia629
      @cristianabarsuglia629 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JoshB-jt7xe In the '30s, sidemounts, and even most rear mounted spares, were under metal coverings that were painted body color. What if Chad got a set of old covers, cut them down some so there would be adequate clearance, and just mounted them as dummy sidemounts?

    Hey chad, for the vinegar next time, use a spray bottlle, put on enough to wet it, let that dry, and repeat til ya get the desired effect. And maybe steel wool or scotch brite, you could dull that skirt, and then polish it more to remove whatever paint ya want, to make the more realistic edge and the spray bottle the vinegar there. dig the skirt shape tho, after ya put on the tails, to match the body lines.

    Spare wheel looks great. I'm a big fan of a balanced look, a spare on each fender is a going to look wonderful. I know it was an optical illusion, but the car looked stretched when you dropped the tire in the pocket. Going to be a high rollers ride for sure. Move over Bonnie and Clyde, Jolene and Chad are taking over.

  • @jeffreyprineschoolproject2921
    @jeffreyprineschoolproject2921 ปีที่แล้ว

    Chad, don't forget the drill weep holes in the spare tire holder. And if you spot Prime the welds with your finger where you did the chop and some of the paint will stay on with the primer and the other paint will Rust in the other areas where there will be bare metal. If you put the blue over that where you primed it the paint will stay and where you don't prime it it will Rust that way it won't look like line of rust where you chopped it. You're doing a great job just my suggestion. You and Jolene go

    Just watched you cutting the hole in the fender for the spare. I noticed the tire seems to be a tight fit. If you mount it on a rim won't the tire be a little wider when you air it up making harder to place in the hole. Hope this was a helpful comment.

  • @markmckeeman223
    @markmckeeman223 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Side mount would look better a little lower in the fender. Fender well will need to be wider to fit the inflated tire. Nothing has been so badly altered that it can't be "fixed."
    If you don't like the look that's fine. Remember they are out there making content for folks to enjoy. If you're really that offended then turn off the computer and go out to the shop and work on your own car.

    Controversy?
    Good go for it, its art, sometimes controversy happens.
    Keep on keeping on.
    If we're really honest the only wrong is doing nothing
    Yes, they no longer make 1936 Hudsons anymore but he great news is...
    It's a car, its made of steel & paint. They still make that stuff. 20 years time Chad & Joelene might want to radically change the car & new art starts again.
    Go for it, go hard. Bring the art because I wouldn't want you to do it my way, I'd be bored. I want to see how other people do things, what styles they like or what style they've developed.
    Y'know if you're not sure how to do it, it just means doing it right takes a little longer & who hasn't enjoyed trying, re-trying, learning & eventually creating something you really really like, you look at yourself & go wow, that worked out ok.
    Think its wise to listen to critics for technical advice but otherwise remember...
    NO ONE EVER ERECTED A STATUE TO A CRICTIC (and with that I'm going to think up with a statue to a critic might look like hahaha)
    Let the painter paint, its his canvas

    Not trying to be critical, but if you Lower & move rearward, the side profile of the car will still show the hood & roof line chop for a more appealing look. the tire standing up too tall will breakup that profile.

    with a black sharpie draw the rust pattern you would like to see on the rear fender. use a hand held sandblaster on your pattern. sandblast until grey metal... no shine.... spray vinegar. this will give you the look your after.

    The top came out very good and I think the tire mounts are a great idea.

    They use electrolysis bath to remove rust. It can also be used to add rust ( by reversing the voltage) . It could rustify the wheel spat?

    Lightly Mist the skirts with some matt black and then wipe it with some rags before it dries... it will blend the fresh paint in with the gritty look of the rest of the car.

    I have to admit in beginning my heart hurt to see that survivor cut up but if you don’t go to much further and save it classic integrity I might be able to watch some more just please put it on the road and drive a real clasic

    That's what the doctor ordered, Bad Chad surgery along with camera work and editor Queen Jolene,, making the holes in the fenders and wheel mounts. Just go for it attitude, gitter done! Why stop at the roof chop,,, weeee haa,, That car still would be sitting in a dark and lonely barn getting ate out by creatures. Chad and Jolene are giving that Hudson a new life unlike me, I woke up at 9 and looked like a -1... 😁

    If you use the step shrinker would be the best! you just need to make it into a step shrinker and you'll want to use it more.

    Just an idea where the bare metal on the post from the chop maybe paint that gold or another color and say it is a gold ( or other color) stripe special edition that has the added features that you are doing with the car. Might be easy way around trying to match the blue paint.

    I’m wondering if you would reach more of what your looking for if you torched the skirts it’s prettier amazing what you end up with when you do that and after doing that throw water on them you will end up with what your looking for.
