More about Jugs Social Club, Inc/ NOMTOC:
    www.nomtoc.com
In the Spring of 1951, a group of talented, energetic young men united to form a carnival organization. This group was established chiefly as a social organization with entertainment its primary function. After many hours of debate the membership voted unanimously on the name: The Jugs Social Club.

The founding fathers of the Jugs Social Club were: Ernest Brunet, Jr., John Brunet, Sr., Larry Bowie, Paul Richards, Alton Richards, Morris Richards, Harris Martin, Marcellus Copper, Othella Baptiste, Lonnie Hewitt, Alex Winnfield and Taylor Francois.

Over the years The Jugs Social Club has become one of New Orleans most popular and successful social organizations. It has presented to friends and followers some of the most extravagant and spectacular balls of the Carnival season. The Club is also known for its generosity in the community, particularly annual scholarships given to local students entering college.

In the early sixties the Jugs built floats for All Saints Catholic School parades and became fascinated with the idea of having a Carnival parade of their own. However, it was not until the waning days of 1969 that a permit to have such a parade was granted. The Jugs named the parade the Krewe of NOMTOC -New Orleans Most Talked Of Club and incorporated on September 6, 1969. The first parade was held in February 1970 with six floats, six bands, six marching units, one horse group and a motorcycle squadron. Today NOMTOC rolls with 27 floats, 14 bands and several marching and riding groups.
Founded in 1951, the Krewe of NOMTOC (New Orleans Most Talked Of Club) began parading on the West Bank in 1970.
The inaugural parade had six floats, six bands, six marching units, one horse group, and a motorcycle squadron. Today, this krewe is comprised of 625 male and female riders, 26 floats, ten bands, and a number of marching and riding groups. Throws include ceramic medallion beads, jug banks, and their signature Jug Man dolls.
The Krewe suggests that the best spots for family viewing are Holiday Dr. and Gen. Meyer Ave. in front of Behrman Stadium or along Mardi Gras Blvd. or at the intersection of Nunez St. and Mardi Gras Blvd.
The Krewe’s sponsor, The Jugs Social Club has a rich heritage of civic activism, regularly donating funds to local schools, youth groups, and social programs. Each year a group of academic honor students is selected as guest riders in the parade.
    Year founded: 1951
Membership: 625 male and female riders
    Number of floats: 26 floats
Signature throw: signature Jug Man dolls

Oh my gosh YES!! This is what I wanted to see- the local Mardi Gras that the original neighborhoods do before it was taken over by those big fancy floats!! At least the parades with "big fancy floats" do have local marching bands in them, but it seems like the rest has been "monetized." Do y'all think that the big money and corporations have come in and taken over what used to be more of a local parade? Let me know. Thanks for the video 🙂

We are all about the neighborhood parades. We wish some of the parades that were Neighborhood parades that still roll, were still those. At the same time, local conditions after Katrina, supposedly made the old model non workable. When it comes to the money element, we are friends with a few Krewe leadership. While there may be some corporate influence on parades, that is mostly on the Holiday Parades! Most of the local parades are funded by the systems that were in places for generations. To be honest though, that corporate sponsorship may be needed at some point to sustain what we have here! We hope that will never be the case, and the Krewe leaders that we know truly don't want that to happen either!

I wish there was a way you could show more of the dancing, but I'm sure that had copyright music in it, right? My name is Linda, by the way (don't like how TH-cam has taken our accounts over so our names don't appear on comments anymore!) Thanks again!

Thanks for saying hi and thank you for watching. We try to show as much as we can on dancing because we love our dancing Krewes and bands and they are truly amazing but you are correct, the copyright issues are the reason we cant show even more of the Dance Krewes. Its always a balance when it comes to that sort of thing, hopefully you check out more of our videos though! We have so much Mardi Gras to Go! 💜💚💛
