It is indeed. It is rivalled tho by modern Europe. Let's say from 1500' to late 19th century. But since Europe is kinda a later subproduct of ancient Greece in term of culture and sciences, like a mother culture, then basicly ancient greeks are the source.

Thank you very much NORTH 02 for this great work you have done. Indeed, this is our story in general. But also, we modern Greeks must continue the work of our ancestors. We have been absent for centuries. The Renaissance artists in Florence were inspired by the ideals, arts, sciences, mythology, philosophy, history and worldview of our ancient Greek ancestors. They were inspired by us but without us. We are responsible for our mistakes and our downfall. But in recent years we have made a promise. Our return. Always on a spiritual, scientific and artistic level through education. The democracy that was born here in Greece and the freedom must continue to exist. Democracy is the most important structural element of Western Civilization. We are all called to defend it. The Greeks will be present this time as well. Thanks again NORTH 02 for this amazing video! Salute from Athens!

Unfortunately for you, that time is gone, forever!! Now, for some times, as predicted in the Apocalypse, the old demon of paganry, is supposed to rewaken to be recrushed once and for all. I, of course, am not judging Greece here, because its heart is taken by Who then took it also 2000 years ago : Jesus, the Christ! and fortunately, that is also in Truth the most vital part of modern day Greece...So, enjoy your dream of heathen paganism for a bit more and than the flame of the Holy Ghost will reignite the hearts, and THAT shall be the basis for the world order!!.....

The lessons of the Persian/Greek war have been used countless times over history right up to modern warfare ..... know your enemy, know and understand the terrain that your fighting in, exploit this to your advantage and make sure that you choose where you fight, don't let the enemy decide when and where you fight.
Had that bloke not given the Persians the knowledge about that pass around the Spartans, who knows how many Persians would've died right in front of the brilliant Spartan soldiers.....

I think most people, who know about Greece, would rather be in Greece. 6,000 beautiful islands, in one of the sunniest places on the planet! 16,000 kilometers of coast line! The birthplace of democracy, theatre, the Olympic Games and so much more! I've never been but I hear the people there are friendly and laid back. It's the place I fantasize about going to, but know I'm not likely to ever have the means to swing it. Still, a man can dream, right?

@@NORTH02 Akropolis and museums in Athens are nice, but you might also want see the Minoan palace complex of Knossos, Crete. Maybe do some island hopping on a ferry from Piraeus? One can take a ferry to pretty much anywhere from there and prices are cheap.
There are also very well preserved excavated Minoan era city blocks in Akrotiri, Thira/Santorini. (They had severs and frigging water toilets 3500 years ago!) While Athens is nice - Crete, Lesvos and Naxos were probably my favorite places in Greece. (and there's plenty that I haven't yet visited) History is everywhere. I mostly enjoyed backpacking in the countryside, visiting smaller villages and stumbling into more obscure historic sites. Food is often better and cheaper away from more touristy areas.
Iliad is ofcourse good travel reading, the Minoan or Roman era history too. Also Cynic (Diogenes) and Stoic (Zeno and Epiktetos, yay!) philosophers rock! Well there's just too much to mention. :)

Great accompanying imagery & very well-researched! Thank you!

Eternal glory to our formidable Byzantine ancestors. For preserving and delivering our Ancient Greek heritage of millenniums, throughout the centuries. And for blending it majestically with our splendid Christian tradition 🔥🇬🇷

    • @mag-s7
      @mag-s7 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

I understand you are a religious person and i respect that, but our medieval Byzantine ancestors did not respect their Ancient Greek ancestors the way they should (The majority of the people vs the more educated). Even the Great Constantin priest believed the earth was square while we measured the circumference of the earth centuries before. (Because the bible says "Ύστερα απ' αυτό είδα τέσσερις αγγέλους να στέκονται στις τέσσερις γωνιές της γης και να κρατούν τους τέσσερις ανέμους της γης για να μη φυσάει στη γη, μήτε στη θάλασσα, μήτε σε κανένα δέντρο.")

The notion that our Ancient Greek Ancestors were pagan existed in the early years of the Byzantine Empire, upon the introduction and adoption of Christianity across the region, my friend.
In later years the Byzantine Greeks revived and preserved their ancient Hellenic heritage, while blending it with our Christian faith & tradition as I mentioned above. It is because of this blending, that the Byzantine Realm resulted to the rising of the most splendid Empire the world has ever known.

Soon very soon… What you describe is almost referred in Plato's work Timaeus 22-25. There is described what Egyptian priests said to Solon who visited Egypt about 2 centuries before Plato's writings (if I'm not wrong). The Egyptians said to Solon that we the Greeks are always young like children, and that there is no old Greek. When Solon asked them what they mean by that they gave him the following answer: Many times in the past Greece has been destroyed by many causes. Floods, Earthquakes, Wars. The strange thing is that after some time Greece was rising up again and not only that. We were studying again on our feet and guide many other nations against other enemies, enemies of humanity and freedom. As an example the Egyptians priests referred to a very old war of Athenians and their allies from Europe and Egypt against Atlantis. Even Athenians were weak and Atlantis was superior in technology of war they managed to unite Europe and Egypt against the superior enemy and all of them together win this war. Unfortunately Greece was almost completely destroyed. This happened 9000 years before Solon lived. Unfortunately there is history of the past, Greek and generally Human history that is unknown. There are dark forces that keep hiding many findings in the whole world about Human history. I could say many things but it is not practical. I will refer only to one that passed right now from my mind. At my work I know a woman which lived the first years of her life in a village in Peloponnesus. Near the village there was an excavation of ancient tubes. There they found graves of giants 3 meter tall with their weapons and many other things. Archeologists show all this stuff only to the villagers only for once. After that they restricted the excavation area and very soon they took everything from there to unknown destination.

Got Iliad right here next to my bed. I started having it by my bed for years now since reading about Alexander having the Iliad under his pillow and it traveled with him on his conquest. Havent read it in a while, thinking I'm going to do a reread now . Loving this so far!

Troy was discovered 150 years ago (actually different layers of the city that was destroyed several times), the mansion of Agamemnon was also discovered (both by Heinrich Schliemann) and n general all the details given by Homer has been proven accurate. Excellent video

Very proud but mostly feeling humble to live at the very spot where the last spartians settled after sparta was burnt- that is round 100 klms south of sparta- they named it "new city" (kainipolis) a quite rocky and harsh place

I always wanted to know much more about the ancient Greeks, the Spartans etc.. (+ natural human & otherwise history).. I used to watch quite a few films about such people(s) & times but the nature of all movies, as we know, is that they are about a 'story' the director wants to tell, so even 'fact-based' films are not necessarily the 'truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth' (to put it mildly, lol).. In fact, these days I watch more fact versus 'historically-based-but-a-nice-chunk-of-fiction-thrown-in' movie vids than those kinds of movies themselves. Hence why I've never even bothered to watch such as the movie '300' (or should I?).. Anyway, THIS is, for this subscriber at least, the best one you've made yet.. Great, straight-forward factual narrative, as usual, & similarly straight-forward NARRATION, as well.. (both aspects of your channel that first drew me into subscribing)... 👍

Great video, though this is a very informative video the pronounciation of greek names and places is oftentimes either wrong or (though understandably anglicized) mispronounced. As it's a great series i would recommend asking greek people for advice on how to pronounce them in your next greek themed video. thank you very much and greetings from greece.

The Ancient Greek were amazing people. The methods of logic, reason, science, and mathematics they discovered were incredible. It is tragic that the ancient Greeks could not learn to master themselves and avoid the destructive practice of slavery and constant unprovoked warfare on others.

Perhaps some of us are unaware that so-called white people are not the ancient Greeks. Please see Anacalypsis by G Higgins and See history from primary sources available. So-called nonBlack people have only been on the planet for six to ten thousand years according to science precluding them from any discussion of human origins and the origins of civilization and culture.👊🏿🕎⚔️🏹🌽🪶💜
