I don't know much about dumpster diving I have never done it is it legal or illegal
@@stevesutter2562 that's a bit of a gray area. And subject to local laws recycling dumpsters both commercial and private are no nos . most states any garbage can for a residence that has been set by the roadway for collection is fair game. Most of the state's have a clause that it becomes public domain at that point and open to being go e through and the items are completely legal to take with you. While this is a boon for scrapers. It's not there to make it easy for them. rather it is a law they enacted to make it so the police do not have to get a warrant every time they want to search a garbage. Whether it's at a crime scene or if they are just suspicious of the people in a specific type. As far as retail store dumpsters. If the dumpster is enclosed in a gated area and the gate is closed it is best to leave it alone those get the police's dander up. They claim its breaking and entering. But if it's in the open and unlocked. Your usually ok. Just remember the golden rules . be quiet especially at night. Nobody wants your causing a huge amount of noise. Do not leave a mess when you leave. Thats one I got on others divers about a lot. I would actually carry a broom and shovel and stuff witg me and clean up any messes at dumpsters . even if I did not make it. It kept the businesses from looking to stop divers. If it's questionable leave it . I have found . it's an adventure.
You should shame the companies that are not allowing you to recycle what they wont by simply showing their name

Welcome too the land of throw it all away!! I found a 6mth old kitten at recycling center 2days before a hurricane, she's 5 1/2 now. Pumpkin is my sweety. You can find alot dumpers diving!!! Lol

You never know what you'll find in a dumpster. People make huge mistakes dumping stuff. Personal friend found 10 - $100 bills in an envelope once. Also a quarter carrot diamond taped to a file card. Constantly found gold such as broken jewelry. Your doing good Mike. Lots of energy in you. Sorry about your dog. Not easy losing a friend. Many blessings.
I wear 6 rings everyday.. the only ring I wear that is actual gold came from a dumpster lolol

Sorry for the loss of your beloved dog Mike. My parents lost their dog this past March to cancer too. She was such a good girl. Cancer sucks

I had a Dachshund for 4 years. I moved with him to Texas. Moved in September 2019.. he passed away in November 2019. Liver failure. I have no idea how that happened. But it broke my heart. Swore I wouldn’t get another dog. Couldn’t take it. Got my mini Dachshund Porter in March 2020. So sorry about your baby!!
That's a bummer. My old boy is 16 and never had a problem until recently. Kidney failure, so I changed him to all raw chicken diet. His seizures went from every week to every other month. And the severity is lessening. So I hope to have him for a year or two more. We walk every day. I want to give him the best longest life I can. They mean so much to us when we have them, and after they pass. Fond memories, and loyal companions. They don't care about any of the things people do. You could be Quasimodo himself but a dog cares not. If you give them love and basic needs, you have a buddy for life. It's just a shame they don't live longer. But that me being selfish.
I separate my metal trash for the scrappers to pick up easier when I'm cleaning out houses for resale .

I had a friend who was a minister. He would dumpster dive...pick up items, clean and fix them, and give to people in need. S super cool guy.

While I was sitting on the floor sorting some stuff out... My baby Sophie 19 years old climbed on my lap curled up made an exhaling sound and died... Two months ago and I miss her terribly... We will meet again on the other side of the bridge... ;

I am so so sorry for your loss. You can tell Winston and his brother were truly loved and both had exceptional doggy lives. They wee taken care of by well-trained canine slaves. The memorial was absolutely lovely. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
As a former security officer who had to politely told a few people that they couldn’t dumpster dive here. It’s not because of the owner of the property had a problem with someone who was emptying out a dumpster. It’s because if the dumpster diver got hurt the property owner could be liable for any injury and that’s the biggest reason why many companies don’t like people dumpster diving is because they don’t want to be sued in case of injury.

4:35 AM here,,can't sleep..I have always wanted to dumpster dive at a mall..I bet those get lots of great stuff!
@@sherrienale9974 overall regular. Malls tend to be less productive than strip mall. Stores. A large percentage of the chain stores that are in malls have a compactor so it crushes everything into a cube so people cannot go through their garbage. This is likely silly to anyone else but I periodically still check the bigger pet stores dumpsters. Like chow hound and such even though I no longer dumpster dive regularly. I have over the years gotten really good shelving to use in my garage and such . the steel shelves they display and store the 50 pound bags of dog food on type of shelves. They are handy when you want to keep bulky heavy stuff organized.
mike i hope you read this ! ! ! Add a shoe brush thing to the side of your truck so you can clean your shoes after you jump out. Just a thought , love watching your show

Well, made it to the end till I cried. The pics are precious of Winston and Bert. Been there and know how heart breaking it is. Someday there will be a place for another furbaby in your heart and lives. Enjoyed the video as always. Four boxes of those little parts was crazy!!!
The surprise tribute at the end made it worth watching the whole video. We have had so many pets live with us. There is always that one sad day when they have to leave us. Good on you sir for the love you shared with those wonderful little ones.

True story! I worked security for a college complex. I scored a few grand in fishing gear, along with couches, tvs, and a few mini fridges. I sold the mini fridges and would pick the same ones back up when they moved out. Sold the same 5 mini fridges 10 times
RIGHT!! Just helped my oldest, & fridges they’re going to NEED next year we’re out at the dump. Smh

Sorry to hear you lost your good bud mike . But know in the fact of how you cared for them . That never disappears . Dogs were out here to show us what real unconditional love is . To keep the lonely company , and to give love to those that do t have it . All the best .
They might be worried about liability in case you get hurt in their dumpster. Use too be.a tree dumpsite in NW Arkansas was a good place to pick up fire wood . A guy got hurt cutting wood and sued the county so they shut it down and just bury the wood now.

Sorry to hear you lost Winston. Sending you best wishes from the UK. I enjoy your channel, your humour and your ethics. Making the money is nice, but also making a difference, trying to save some of the hideous wasteful nature of some people/companies deserves credit. I would also add that many dumpster diving channels do not go the extra mile and "dive in". Each to their own, but you are not afraid of getting a bit dirty, and/or wet feet from the juicyness. For a year ive been wanting a dog. The hardest part was knowing the pain when you dog dies. 3 weeks ago i was privileged to get a 4-6 month old rescued puppy. Not sure of breed but many think black lab, rottie and or some sheppard. As i do a little metal recycling and scavenging we decided to call him Scrapper. Hes already got the hearts of the family. Hey Mike, When you have to fold in the flaps of a box to make the bottom, try putting a couple of flattened boxes in the bottom to strengthen it. It works 👍🏻😁

Lost my baby boy "Freddy" to cancer on Easter Sunday this year. He was about a year older then Winston. He was a Austrian Shepherd, Chow, Doberman mix. He was my 1 and only truckin dog for 13 years.

My man Mike, I am proud to know you, you make scrappers look good, and you are a positive role model for the younger guys and gals coming up. I got chased out of a trash pile trying to grab a piece of metal on the curb, guy came out saying I was making a mess, when I called him out on it he started to let the curse words fly. It must suck to be so miserable that you curse at someone trying to do a positive thing.

When america is this wasteful it gives me a whole new perspective on "dumpster diving" i used to think it was homeless people digging in smelly old rotten food waste/trash. When its actually filled with treasure! And these scrappers are doing a good thing to repurpose materials, hell yeah!
I used to do the same thing but I'm in a wheelchair and I miss it so much but sometimes I will be outside and see something and I will try like hell to get it if I am with my nephew he will get it for me.

U remember when they told us that using hairspray from the spray cans killed the ozone and shamed people for using it...yet they continue to make it that way to this day...it’s not about actually saving the planet like these climate change dipsticks preach...it’s about taking it freedoms and rights in the name of something that’s supposed to be good...

The reason they have an issue with dumpster divers is the liability of getting sued if you get hurt.,I used to make a living doing that,. Some places would save their scrap metal outside the dumpster for us to pick up without having to go in their dumpsters,first come first served.
It is sad, but they are worried about liability issues with someone getting hurt in their dumpster
They are like family, when I lost my last one I cried for three straight days, just couldn’t quit. It hurts, but we give them the best life we can and they give us wonderful memories. 🐶. ✌🏼❤️

Oh gosh that is just how our Bodie Boy weht although he did not have cancer. He was almost 14 and came upstairs for bed and was soon gone. Losing your pet family is so hard. Sending hugs of comfort.
I have a Bodie of my own. He's my 5 pound Chihuahua service dog. He's 7 now and was attacked by a bigger dog and lost an eye but is just as spunky as ever. Don't need two eyes to detect seizures. He's my constant companion.
As a dumpster diver myself I can APPRECIATE that tool 2 grab stuff without jumping in!! 🤣

Sorry Mike. Dog loss sucks. RIP Winston. A side note: i have had dogs 70 years, and the last 30 most have died of Cancer, tumors sonetimes the size of grapefruit. It did not used to be this way. Many dogs eat diets high in corn, and tgat corn is GMO material. We ge tg that too, now, and our Cancer rate is higher as well. Monsanto seems to be in the forefront of this change, and i would like to see an investigation of that. So many countries refuse to eat our foods now, because of the Cancer and disease tendencies increase.

I think food has more then a lot to do with the rise in Cancer in humans and animals. It’s sad that as humans we are killing our own people and animals. We are so much smarter then this but it all comes down to the all mighty dollar.
I dont know if you recycle over in the States, like we do here in the UK, but I'm amazed at how much cardboard ends up in a dumpster to go into landfill.

The thing that you said, "Filters or something" goes with the foam piece that says "broadhead side." It's a target for bow & arrow.
Wrong. It's a speaker for a distributed 70volt or 25volt system. Like an intercom. They drop in in place of an acoustic tile.

That "vent" was a PA speaker. 70V is a standard voltage for building audio systems. I guess 25V is too.

The landfill charges by the weight of the dumped material.
Some of those dumpsters are actually recycling. And the other dumpsters here aren't done by weight. Usually picked up weekly paid by month or quarterly

I miss scrapping. Used to live close to an industrial park and was always interesting the stuff they would throw away! Work a boring 9 to 5 now. : (
I worked with a guy 25 years ago who was a known dumpster diver and his wife loved him for it. He found jewelry, women's clothing that had to have been worn once or twice and tossed. After a trip to the cleaners she had almost brand new clothes.
A their household furniture were close to brand new and the ones that weren't his brother-in-law redid old chairs, love seats and the like

There is nothing compared to the love and companionship of an English Bulldog, we have 3, and they are ages 9, 10, and 11 years, they truly are me and my wifes kids ❤, sorry for your families loss
I've found whole lawnmowers that just needed gas in the trash, that start right up and run, some with minor carb adjustments or carb cleaning, you can easily resell for a few hundred dollars.
Working as a scrap processor down in florida ive taken stuff home that was working for pennies to re sell, engine parts(some even brand new) medical equipment, like a couple x-ray machines that worked, Restaurant equipment, all one had to do was wish and wait and it would probably show up

Several of the places where I have worked, we had to start locking dumpsters. Dumpster divers would go in and pretty much throw everything out of it and then take what they wanted and leave our garbage spread all over the damn parking lot. So three of the places I have worked, we have just started putting locks on all the dumpsters.
If more people took the time to clean up after themselves people would not mind to have their garbage cans picked. You do a great job to respect people's property.
I'm sure it was heartbreaking to make that video of Weenie, but thank you for sharing a few moments. They leave their paw prints on our hearts forever...

RIP Weeny. You had a good innings. Reminds me how old my mothers poodle is. He was born in June 2007 and he's still here, but I don't think it'll be too long now. But he's a stubborn little bugger, so he might prove me wrong. He still gets around ok, but he can't see very well and he's either deaf or loves to ignore me. He's definitely a mummies boy. He never leaves her side when she is at home. I'll miss him when he goes, but it'll be harder on mum.
