    The key is to get players that will compliment Embiid & Maxey! Don't have to be a max guy!

      The name is Miles Bridges, who could be obtained at a discount, if Morey acts fast on June 30 at 6 PM.
      Miles should be signing with CHA or DET on July 1, if Morey insists on Fake Morality and punts on Miles.

    To quantify Derek's initial remarks, for this summer Maxey counts as 13.02 M of cap. But after using up the cap space, he will be signing a 25% Max or 141 x 0.25 = 35.25 M for the 24-25 season. That will increase by 8% to 38.07 M for the 25-26 season.
    With the new TV deal, the salary cap threshold will rise by the maximum allowed of 10% to 141 x 1.10 = 155.1 M. A 30% and 35% max player will command 46.53 and 54.285 M in the first year of new contract.
    If only Joel and Maxey were under contract that would be 55.2245 + 38.07 = 93.3 M. But have to add (12 - 2) x 1.276 incomplete roster charges = 12.76 M.
    Therefore the maximum cap space even if only have Embiid and Maxey on roster, would be (155.1 - (93.3 + 12.76)) = 49.04 M space to sign the first free agent.
    That would be 5.245 M short of a 10+ yr Max salary.

      @@derek.bodner Yeah, now that the new TV contract is about done, ESPN et al. should ease up on having everyone believe its too complicated to learn the important parts of the CBA. But if Bobby Marks was allowed to discredit every roster idea that Perk came up with, then 90% of the internet conversation would be debunked. Can't have that.

    • @derek.bodner
      @derek.bodner 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think Kyle and I were 90% in agreement at the end of the day, with some misunderstanding mixed in, since he said at one point at the end of his arm-waving that 'you absolutely can't sign players to one-year deals", when I said that same thing at the beginning. He was arguing against a straw man for a bit, lol.
      The reality is, the 5-through-8 of your roster is likely to be shuffled a LOT throughout the years, and I think that's even more the case with the more punitive repeater tax penalties and apron restrictions. Lineup consistency in the new CBA means getting the 3rd and 4th players on the roster correct, and then hitting a bunch of singles and doubles on mid-level exceptions, draft picks and minimum contracts, and those will be shuffled regularly.
      So if you strike out on getting guys capable of being 3rd or 4th option kinda guys, I think you have to prioritize being flexible. As I tried to explain, that doesn't mean being flexible in preserving cap space. It means preserving draft picks for trades, and signing under-the-radar guys to good, positive trade value deals that you can aggregate at a later date. That is, largely, going to require the same successes as "building a team".

    The consistently most successful teams in the Eastern conference have been the Bucks and Celtics. Their rosters have been built around 2 anchors, (Tatum/Brown) and (Giannis and Middleton) they then build out the roster to support those players skill sets. BTW same with the Heat as well. The Sixers have chased an outdated model of getting a third star/Max player instead of filling the roster with bench and role players who maximize those players talents and abilities. I think Morey is smart but I am beginning to doubt his vision and adaptability.

    This just proves the failures of multiple front offices we've had. Besides Maxey zero player development. Look at the teams still involved every team has some youth mixed in with their veterans. The bonus is that they usually are on team friendly deals. I honestly have zero confidence in Morey. If we think we are going build a championship squad picking up players s off the scrap heap,deadline moves or buyouts we are crazy

    When I look at the dollar amounts you have to pay for these older veterans I shake head. Look at most of those big dollar deals they just don't workout. The problem is they usually have had multiple injuries or they are just too old and are getting rewarded for past performance.

      Losing Tobias alone should make this team WAY better.. Having a Wing who can defend and get his own shot and not be afraid to drive to the rim. We had a Max guy who gave you ZERO in game Six against NY and 2 points in game 6 against Boston.. Embiid has not been prefect, but having your 2nd highest paid player putting up those stats is a BIG reason Joel has failed also.

    • @jerry25a
      @jerry25a 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@keithdale984 I Don't agree. No one has put forth a replacement for Tobias at the rebounding PF position. Tobias shouldn't be viewed as a Max player. He should have been viewed by what he would earn on his next contract. If not for the brutal and ignorant fan base, Tobi might have been willing to return on a discounted contract around the league average or NT-MLE. Now, because of the fans, Morey could get on his hands and knees begging, but all Daryl would get from Tobias is a Crumbl cookie.
      You should be blaming Nurse, for playing Tobias 33.5 mpg, if you think he's so bad. No one forced Nurse to play Tobi. Fact is that Tobi is a good player, though less athletic than 3-5 yrs ago when his father negotiated that contract due to the expectation that Nets were going to offer him a near 4 yr Max.
      Paying a 10+ yr guy a Max contract would not allow Morey to build a roster, and even then, PG is worse than Tobias in several areas - poorer rebounder, doesn't bust his butt as much as Tobi, gets injured more than Tobi, and being older, is likely to decline. And the new CBA won't allow ability to improve roster going forward.

    Players have too many options… the opportunity to play with a broken down Embiid who almost definitely will be out hurt probably does not turn anyone on…

    • @jerry25a
      @jerry25a 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the new CBA, which begins in June, players don't really have options except to stay with their present team than owns their Bird Rights.
      The Sixers are the only contending team with the space (ORL might be 2nd), yet there isn't enough reason for the 3-4 players under discussion to leave present situation.
      To prove my point, someone like Donovan Mitchell, if he doesn't agree to sign an extension with CLE, will find out the hard way that there won't be a contending team with 45 M of cap space in the summer of 2025. S&T are more difficult in new CBA too. So Mitchell doesn't really have any options and if he won't sign an extension, he will be traded to the team that gives CLE the best return.

    • @robstevens2536
      @robstevens2536 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s a ridiculous conversation because you’re talking about an alternative of signing top free agents (something they have never accomplished in the Embiid era) by trading for some perfect fit kind of player with the limited number of future first round picks they own. You’re talking about the Sixers like they are one piece away from title contention and they have five future first round picks to put on the table to get that one player. But that’s wrong. They essentially are, at the moment, sitting on a roster with only one player guaranteed to be there next season. Embiid. That’s it. They need an ENTIRE ROSTER right now. And if they strike out on the top free agents then all bets are off for even Maxey taking Philly’s money. You guys are showing a stunning blind spot for the just how bare the Sixers cupboards are right now. They have two trade assets. They have those five, medium value first round picks over the next seven drafts (way fewer than other playoff teams like the Knicks and Thunder who will be competing with them on the trade market), and they have Embiid’s trade value (which other competing teams don’t have). Embiid’s value is (using recent deals like Durant, Irving and Gobert as a gauge) four 1st round picks and 3-4 active player’s from the acquiring team’s roster. Why is it so hard for you guys to discuss how trading Embiid for that kind of haul, and building around Maxey, is really the team’s ONLY viable option?? You can’t look at a roster that only has Embiid guaranteed for next season and make a solid argument that the team can win a title in the next 2-3 years of Embiid’s career. It’s preposterous. Listening to you guys come up with insane scenarios for it is like listening to a bunch of public school fourth graders talk about what kind of mansion they plan to live in when they grow up.

    How about we just get rid of Morey and Elton Brand along with the so called front office? Trading players and assets only to go after certain players you traded away in the first place? No way to develop your 2nd Unit or establish any continuity with any if your starters!!!

      It was assumed at the time of the OG trade that Knicks were prepared to pay him the 30% Max, which starts at 42.3 M.
      I believe Knicks are still prepared to pay that, but now it looks like it won't happen unless Morey loses his focus and first offers OG the same.
      On the other hand, if Morey does that, without losing focus (on someone obtainable like Miles Bridges) he can force the Knicks to overpay, resulting in hurting a key opponent.
