As one of my blind friends syas, it is so fun to be blind! and when we get lost with other blind friends is not frustrating at all. On the contrary, it is fun!!!
I noticed whenever you would touch a wall to your right you instantly started leaning towards the left. If you kept walking straight and just kept touching the wall to the right you would’ve made it all the way through.

That’s so cool you’ve been friends with Tracy for 9 years! Where has time gone, ha ha! I had to cross a challenging stop light intersection yesterday. On the way to my destination, a really nice guy came and helped me cross. But on the way back to the previous one, I crossed it MYSELF! That’s what I wanted to accomplish alone!

I hope you don't mind me answering this also. No please ask that's the best thing you can do and I always tell people please ask ask how can I help you or can I help you? Most people are very excepting of that. Just don't grab anybody or try to pick them up and carry them someplace just always ask🤣
Yes, this! Just saying something like “would you like help with anything?“ is not rude at all. Most people will either accept the help or just tell you politely that they are fine on their own. On rare occasions, you may encounter someone who has other issues besides blindness and will act belligerently, but don’t take that personally. Just don’t ever grab or touch someone without their consent unless their life is obviously in immediate danger.

Just curious, why when you find the wall, don’t you just stick to following the wall? I noticed you would find the wall, a couple times even said you found it and then strayed to the middle again. Is it hard to stick with the wall or does it keep you from hearing enough?

I don’t use them for relaxation, but they make me happy! All of the fall and Christmas sense are my absolute favorite and give me a cozy warm feeling. They are the smells of joy hahaha
Hello Joy. I am a totally blind individual and I am about the same age as you. I applaud you for going out, however I would like to see you try to be more independent it seems as though it is a common theme that you seek assistance have others do everything even the most basic thing for you etc. Maybe if you put more time towards developing your independent skills and less time blindly doing things you might gain more confidence in yourself.
I don’t know what you’re speaking about, I am very independent and I only seek assistance for things I need. How would you do some of these task? I have extreme confidence, perhaps you should watch more of my videos to see what I’m speaking about. There is nothing wrong with asking for directions, walking through a large mall blindly is incredibly challenging, and trying to find a specific location inside of a department store is as well. Not only that, but needing help with finding specific products etc. I do things on my own, but I have no shame in asking for help for the things I need help with. And I do use abs when I can. However, we need to have respect for one another in our blindness. What may work for you may not work for me, what may work for me may not work for everyone because everybody is uniquely different. I am all about celebrating our individuality on our own journeys :-)
@@JoyRoss Joy I have watched a number of your videos over the last year or so and have seen many things that you do or attempt to do or not attempt to do where you rely on others. I was particularly concerned with your difficulty of curbing your own dog. I have had a guy dog in the past and I do navigate the mall independently on my own every day. I also travel throughout the United States frequently for work as a totally blind individual and make an effort to do things completely independently. I do use apps I do solicit a aid and so on and so on. I get it you show everybody the challenges that we face and there are things that you do that I applaud you for but I don’t feel as though it is a positive thing to have to live upon constant validation from sighted people who are amazed with a blind person. I would hope that you would put your energies towards raising expectations of the blind and someone I’m not sure which mall you were at in the Portland area but if it was the Clackamas mall that’s not a very challenging environment. So I apologize to you I usually do not criticize people for what they can’t do but I praise them for what they can do and what they attempt to do and I understand that you have had a change in your living arrangements and perhaps that will be good for you to be challenged with being more independent so applause to you for whenever you go outside of your comfort zone and try to accomplish more.

What concerns me is that you are obviously in a position to have a great influence you’ve got a large number of followers and I think you could use this platform to benefit the blind or change the circumstances of the blind. Every person that you pass who views you needing assistance or to listening aid is a potential employer or somebody that could have an affect on a blind person‘s life and I would like you to ask yourself is what I’m doing going to help change the circumstances that blind people face in this nation. The answer would be most likely not this may preclude blind people from having opportunities because of the low expectations that people have and that you’re actions reinforce or potentially reinforce. I do have respect for the challenges that you face and I respect you for those challenges that you meet all I’m asking is that you face more of those challenges in use your position to help out the Blind community. With great power comes great responsibility.

Instead of being critical of someone who is openly being vulnerable and sharing their life with us how about you do the same. Like I said, instead of dictating how a person should live their life. Live your own life, film it, edit it, upload it, allow total strangers to be critics of your life. Be the change Michael. How does one find the time to say please look at me please give me words of encouragement please don’t allow me to be independent please help help help help help. Are you do take time to ask for help when I need it but I do challenge myself to do stuff on my own and don’t defer to being needy. Yes I wish I had the time to do a video maybe that could help a lot. I do lead by example every day I am a part of blindness organizations and they can see me accomplish great things. I’ve given testimony BIA in Congress and in front of many different states in their general assembly. I don’t have to make a video to highlight myself I do this in many different people know who I am and whatever it’s not about being nice or sounding nice I try to be a human being but it gets a little bit tiresome to see people who don’t raise expectations of the blind but encourage those expectations to be lower. Sounds like I struck a chord with you and not everybody Hass to be a TH-cam star to make a change some people do it simply by living.
