Imagine how strong Gukesh will get with more experience under his belt after working on his opening repertoire, endgame prowess and tactical intuition ...
@@joeykoch5664 the calculation thing is age related. He will be better because his experience will overcome the diminishing of his calculation (he will know better when and what to calculate) , he wont calculate as fast or as deep as he does now.

It's funny that they have this format pre-prepared, yet they could not agree on the rating system... David: "How would you rate him out of 100?" Magnus: "7 out of 10"
Rating players from other moments in history is purely speculation. He plays gukesh , they play as contemporaries , the in-depth knowledge is completely different.
"Stability vs possibilty" is much more precise than "attack vs solid". And Gukesh will join Fischer and Carlsen in this respect. Still underestimated..
I don't know that there is more linguistic precision around your choice of phrasing, but I'd generally agree with the sentiment. In a sense, attacking routinely comes down to how much you're willing to (and purposefully pursuing) the destruction of positional symmetries, i.e., destabilizing.
@@himynameisdavenicetomeetyou A positional player will never sacrifice the stability unless he can control chance will dominate risk. The tactician is willing to transform stability into risks and chances. Those preferences got nothing to to with strategy. I was wrong in this respect in my past. @@thomaswyss5828 Hmm, interesting take & not terribly different than what I was trying to convey. Succinctly, I view "strategy" as the management of tactics and position throughout a game (or even, more generally, across games in a match). So, while this is often naturally conflated with positional play, I agree it is not synonymous. I'll have to think more about what it means in different cases (and across different players like Kasparov & Karpov)
@@thangavelt4726 I dont think so. It is Gukesh from India, Followowed by Abdusattorov, Wei Yi and Firouzia. But we will see. Keeping fire on the way is not for granted.
I know Gukesh is strong But it never occurred to me that he's this good Magnus does not sugarcoat anything If Magnus says these things Gukesh is genuinely a monster
Great chess content. Much better than Csquared and that perpetual chess podcast. Amazing content and entertaining without anything clickbait and amateurish.
So he was actually talking about Gukesh when he said that few Indian players have 0 understanding of the game but they are precise with their calculation.Very Interesting !!
This "understanding" thing as I understand is mostly about memory. Magnus is able to remember so many chess positions that every position he gets in a game is somewhat familiar to him, because it's similar to a position he knows. Experience should help with that but also Magnus is gifted with an extremely strong memory.
When he is speaking about players he usually rates them in terms of intuition vs calculation basis. Intuition he means is when u have experience and in quick games u need to solve positions by just looking at it and recalling solutions from ur experience instead of calculating, so maybe understanding means solving positions without calculating positions, however classical end game where both player have less than a minute on board is different than bulet game with less than a minute because in classical players might have resolved position before 5 or 10 minutes with calculations so they kind of knew it...so understanding means memory is kind of right
Well what I believe is that he means to say by intuition that if he is in a certain position, due to his experience he doesn't need to explicitly hard calculate and can still navigate to a win whereas a few of the new players like Gukesh tend to base everything pretty much on their calculation. Like taking a step forward in a position which is almost equal or with slight advantage in their favour. A player like Magnus sort of knows what to do and continues whereas a player like Gukesh straight up calculates the lines (almost) everytime. The thing Magnus dislikes about this approach is that it sort of promotes computerised thinking and makes the game loose it's essence of improvisation.
Yikes Gukesh is a freaking monster. He sounds lethal if hes given the experience hes already guaranteed to get in the next couple years. India is coming!
Strategy is the approach to the game before it starts, to achieve a desired outcome. Tactics are what happens during the game, to try and achieve that outcome.
At the time of this comment Gukesh is the 5th highest rated player in the world 😀 I guess when you're the 1st highest rated, everyone else pales in comparison!
Don't know why people judge chess skill based on tactics, middlegame etc. The only goal or skill a chess player now adays is how close he can play accurately like engines.
I would rate the content 95/100
